“Mommy, you’re here!”
Liora rushed to River and nestled in her arms. “I missed you, Mommy.”
River leaned over to pick up Liora, but Noah interjected, “Your clavicle injury isn’t fully healed.”
River’s arms hung in uncertainty as she apologized, “I’m sorry, Lia, I can’t carry you yet.”
“It’s okay, Mommy. Do you like my outfit?” Liora asked, her head held high, eyes sparkling.
“It’s beau-“
“Quit being so vain. You check yourself in the mirror every morning,” Tyler quipped from behind.
Liora glared at Tyler and retorted, “I’m just vain, but you blackmailed him for 10,000,000 dollars!”
“10,000,000 dollars? What’s going on, Ty?” River asked sternly, looking at Tyler, Tyler’s eye twitched. ‘Liora…”
“Mommy, I did receive a payment of 10,000,000 dollars, and it came from him.”
Tyler raised an eyebrow at Noah, unwilling to be left alone in this awkward situation.
River turned, her tone stern. “You paid Ty 10,000,000 dollars?”
Noah casually explained, “Yes, I found his request reasonable.”
River countered, ‘Regardless of the reason, you shouldn’t give my son so much money.”
Noah shot back, “Perhaps you don’t know your son well enough.”
River was momentarily stunned, then turned to Tyler. “Do you have a lot of money, Ty?”
Tyler was rendered speechless, realizing that his plan had backfired.
Noah smirked.
River continued. “Ty, I won’t meddle with your money, but I hope you won’t earn it through improper means.”
Tyler hung his head in dejection. “Mommy, I use my skills to search for missing people.”
River was astonished. “Is that how you make your money? How much have you made?”
Tyler grinned, avoiding mention of his earnings from hacking advanced firewalls. “Not much, really.”
Tyler showed his phone to River. “Check the account, Mommy.”
River took the phone and tapped on the account, her eyes widening at the numerous zeros.
As she recovered from her surprise, River realized she didn’t know her children as well as she thought.
River was invited to stay for dinner at Villa Rosa. After the meal, the two children went off to play with their new toys.
River thanked Noah sincerely. “I want to apologize for my behavior during the MK incident a few days ago. On the other hand, I’m deeply grateful to you for informing Ty at the 100th–anniversary celebration. I can’t thank you enough.”
Since the incident, Noah had noticed a change in River’s attitude toward him.
Setting aside his utensils, Noah replied, “I’m not concerned about MK’s minor losses, and this incident has significantly boosted the clothing department’s seasonal sales revenue. You can retract your apology.”
River insisted, “These are two different matters.”
“River, you should know very well that your apology is not what I want,” Noah said.
River’s heart was racing. “I don’t understand what you mean.
Noah’s eyes gleamed with a smile. “Now that we’ve resolved Daniella’s situation, you should see that there’s no connection between her and me, then or now.”
River lowered her gaze and took a sip of water. “Noah, do you think Daniella’s acting alone in all of this?
Noah furrowed his brow. “What do you mean?”
River continued. “If Daniella was on her own, I’d have exposed her right from the start yesterday.”
“So you’re saying someone else is involved?” Noah asked.
River nodded. “I can’t be sure, but it’s just a hunch.”
“Do you have a plan? Noah inquired.
River remained silent, already carrying out her plan and awaiting the outcome.
Meanwhile, Daniella had moved back to International Residence. She couldn’t muster the courage to leave her home, as the bodyguards stationed at her door prevented irate internet users from entering.
She anxiously chewed on her nails while curled up on the sofa. “Why is this happening to me? It should be River who faces everyone’s scorn! How did I become the target? I wish River would pay for taking everything that’s rightfully mine. She deserves to suffer!”
Suddenly, her phone rang, and she viciously grabbed it when she saw Hector’s caller ID.
“Mr. Hendrix!” Daniella’s face contorted in anger.
Hector remarked nonchalantly, “Can’t handle a single setback?”
“You’re the one who pushed me into this mess! I followed your Instructions, and look where it got me!”
Daniella yelled.
Hector replied calmly, “Think you can shout at me here? Remember, I have evidence of your crimes.”
Daniella exploded. “Go ahead, expose me! What’s the difference between my current situation and being in prison?”
“You’re giving up, huh? Seems I’ve misjudged you,” Hector scoffed.
Daniella was taken aback. 1 forgot that Mr. Hendrix is Casey! I have no one else to turn to. If I fall out with Casey now, how will I regain my standing in Novamere?”
Daniella apologized, “I’m sorry, Mr. Hendrix, Please guide me.”
Hector sneered. “Don’t contact me again if you can’t keep your composure.”
He hung up, leaving Daniella trembling as she stared at her phone.
“Is Casey abandoning me? No, Noah’s support is uncertain, so I can’t afford to lose Casey,” she thought.
After half an hour, Daniella called Casey. He answered after a while.
“Casey…” Daniella began, her voice hurried.
Casey paused briefly before replying. “Ella.”
Daniella felt a tightening in her chest. “Casey, are… you going to abandon me too?”
Casey chuckled reassuringly. “Don’t talk nonsense. I won’t desert you, no matter how others misunderstand you.”
Daniella sighed with relief. ‘Casey must have intentionally provoked me earlier to help me regain my composure.‘
“Where are you? I’d like to see you,” she said, tears welling up.
Casey replied gently, “It’s best if you stay in for now. Send me your address, and I’ll come to you.”
After ending the call, Daniella quickly texted Casey the address for International Residence.
Half an hour later, a knock at the door startled Daniella. She struggled to open it but threw herself into his arms upon seeing Casey. I’m scared, Casey.” She sobbed.
Casey casually patted Daniella’s back and suggested, “Why don’t we talk inside?”
Daniella nodded eagerly, leading Casey into the house. They settled on the sofa, with Daniella leaning on him. “Casey, what should I do next?” she asked.
“You can’t do anything right now. I think it’s best for you to stay out of the spotlight,” Casey said as he wrapped his arm around Daniella’s shoulder.
Daniella nodded, listening intently to Casey’s plan.
“It’s not easy to handle River. Maybe you should consider changing your approach,” Casey proposed.
Daniella sat up straight. “What do you mean by changing my approach?*
Casey replied, “That’s something you’ll need to figure out on your own, Ella.”
Daniella shook her head in dismay. “I can’t make peace with this, Casey.”
Casey reassured, “Noah treated me poorly and made me a target, yet I’m still fearless, right?”
“You’re different. You have the De Marcos backing you. They won’t harm you,” Daniella pointed out.
Casey smirked. “If that’s the case, I’ll be your backer.”
Daniella’s eyes widened in shock. “Casey… are you serious?”
“Yes, I am. No one will bully you with me around,” Casey declared, cupping Daniella’s face.
Overwhelmed with disbelief and gratitude, Daniella leaned in and kissed Casey passionately, seeking comfort and security in his embrace.
Casey gazed at Daniella with a sly grin. This foolish woman is all mine now.”
Casey left International Residence after a joyful session.
Daniella curled up in the bed, shaking constantly, and her face was pale. She caressed her face, which was still throbbing in pain after being squeezed by Casey.
Casey had rammed into her like a changed man half an hour ago.
She had been begging for mercy, but Casey would clutch her face to prevent her from making any sound.
The tearing pain from her lower body almost knocked her out of consciousness a few times, yet Casey.
did not show any intention of stopping.
It was her first time being scared of engaging in sex.
Daniella gnashed her teeth. “I can’t tell anyone or run because I will lose the person who can help me!‘
That night, River returned to Bayview Villa with the children. She received a call from Paige as soon as she stepped out of the car.
“Hello?” River answered.
Paige’s voice brimmed with excitement. “I’ve already told Alex about it, River.”
River was taken aback. “So soon?”
“Yeah, I figured I’d tell him sooner or later. Rather than keeping it to myself and feeling restless, I decided to tell him now,” Paige explained.
River admired Paige’s courage. “Judging by your tone, Alex must be thrilled.”
“He’s ecstatic! He said he’s taking me on a vacation! Why don’t you come with us, River?” Paige suggested.
