“I’ll let her off this once. We’ll see if she fulfills her end of the bargain.” They had set up the project just to mess with Danika. Even if she hadn’t taken the bait today, it would’ve landed in her lap eventually. With it, they planned to cut off profits so Danika would end up becoming her company’s laughing stock.

Brandon didn’t feel that was necessary anymore. Plus, with how sharp Danika was, she would soon realize the discrepancies in the project and trace it back to them. It would only cause an unnecessary scene.

“Alright. I’m not bearing losses either way.” Hayden shrugged. He was only interested in Danika, really. With a smirk, he said, ‘I don’t understand why you’re obsessed with Jolene. Danika is so much more interesting.”

“She is, but she’s also too powerful for me to take on.” Brandon knew his limits well. He wouldn’t be able to handle a woman like Danika.

“They’re just women. After a night in bed, they’ll follow your every whim,”

Hayden shrugged it off, already fantasizing in his mind.

Brandon scoffed internally at his friend’s response but didn’t show it. “You plan to try your hand with her?”

“What an idiot,” Brandon thought and said, “If you can get her into your bed and have her wrapped around your finger, you might just have the Zellwegers at your command.”

Everyone knew Danika was Graham Zellweger’s chosen heir, so she had her fair share of suitors, though none of them had made a move yet.

“Really? I’ll have to start planning then.” Hayden grinned greedily. Who would pass on a fish as big as the Zellwegers?

Feeling Hurt

Danika returned to the company. Plenty of people were looking at her, curious to know if she had succeeded in securing the collaboration.

Right as she sat down at her seat, Cherry Winter, who was sitting close by, scooted over. “Don’t be upset, Danika. Things don’t usually work out the first time. Back when I first started, I didn’t even get to meet the client.”

Although Cherry knew that Danika had the Zellwegers backing her up and that collaborating wouldn’t be a problem, no one really knew what Mr. Zellweger was planning. What if word spread and no one had Danika’s back anymore?

If that were the case, she would not have a high chance of securing the collaboration.

“Thanks,” Danika said. She knew that Cherry was comforting her. ‘But the contract has been signed.”

Now it was Cherry’s turn to be surprised. ‘On the first try? That’s amazing!” She had not been quiet with her words, and people looked over. “Did Danika succeed?” they wondered.

Some of them were jealous, but they thought it was expected. Danika was the Zellwegers’ daughter. If she couldn’t do it, lowly people like them would never have a shot.

“Sorry. I was just too shocked.” Cherry noticed their gazes and knew that she had overreacted.

Danika shook her head. She had not minded. There was no need to keep it a secret. She didn’t care about what anyone thought.

Soon, news that Danika had secured the collaboration spread through the company. Some people said she was brilliant but then secretly thought it was all because of her identity.

Jolene’s face was cold. She was extremely upset. “Brandon, you promised me that you wouldn’t let Danika get the collaboration. What’s all this?”

“I’m sorry, Jolene. Danika had already signed the contract with Hunter when I got there. I couldn’t stop them in time.” Brandon made up an excuse to brush it off.

Jolene bit her lip. “Can’t you think of another way? Isn’t Hunter your friend?

Can’t you just make him give you the collaboration?”

“Jolene, they’ve already signed the contract. If Hunter does that, he’ll have to pay a huge fine.”

“Is that it? Are you just going to make her happy?” Jolene was furious. She was thinking even worse of Brandon now and thought he was trash. “Thank God I didn’t get together with him, or I would’ve ruined the rest of my life,” she cursed silently.

James was still the best. Only he was worthy of her.

Brandon was oblivious to what was on Jolene’s mind. “It’s alright,’ he said calmly. “Danika had only secured a one-time collaboration. I’ll definitely stop her from getting the next one.”

Jolene scoffed and said nothing else. She hung up, thinking that talking to him was a waste of time.

Brandon wasn’t feeling too well, either. He’d helped Jolene, but she had not so much as thanked him and even scolded him. Even the thought of it made him feel hurt.

“Oh well,” he thought. Brandon liked her, after all. He’d just endure it all. He’d see for himself if she kept up the scoldings after marriage.

Danika got off work at six in the evening. Just as she got to the entrance, she saw James, who was not far from her. He was leaning against his car like usual. His ethereal face attracted a lot of attention from the pedestrians.

“James.” Danika walked over. She worried that he’d be affecting the traffic if he stood there.

James snapped back to reality when he heard her. “Are you off work? Let’s have dinner.” “Sure.” Danika didn’t refuse. She just so happened to want to talk to him about taking down the Glass family. But she didn’t know when Eustace would arrive at Bardoff City. She was a little worried.

But Who Would Care?

To take down the Glass family, the Zellwegers and the Windsors were enough.

Eustace wasn’t necessary to the plan, but Danika had personal reasons.

Eustace had only just arrived in Bardoff City.

He was at a disadvantage in every area.

If she let him in on their plan, they would be able to prove his abilities.

Moreover, he’d benefit from it and be able to develop his company even faster.

But then she thought for a bit and decided not to talk to James about the Glasses.

They could talk about it when Eustace came back.

If they talked about it now, they would take action before Eustace could come.

She was about to speak, but then someone ran over.

“James.” Danika raised her eyebrows.

It was Jolene, and she wasn’t calling him Mr.Windsor anymore.

Anyone would think they were friends.

Jolene was stringing Brandon along and hitting on James at the same time.

That wasn’t very nice of her.

James looked at her and said nothing, but the dislike in his eyes was apparent.

“Let’s go, Danika.”

Danika nodded and was about to get into the car, but Jolene wouldn’t give up so easily and pull at Danika’s arm.

“Danika, where are you and James going? Can I tag along?”

Danika was speechless. She admired Jolene’s boldness.

“No can do, sister,” she declined, smiling.

She didn’t care about Jolene’s stiff face.

“I just want to hang out with you.I don’t have any other intentions. Can’t I do that?”

Jolene grew pouty.

Anyone would think that Danika was picking on her.

Danika was about to speak, but then James walked over and pulled Jolene away, taking Danika’s hand.

“I’m not letting you,” he said coldly.

“It has nothing to do with Danika.”

“James…”

Jolene pouted, but her heart was in a rage.

Why was Danika being treated so well? Couldn’t Jolene compare to her? Danika shrugged, exasperated.

“You heard your man. It’s not me.He’s the one who doesn’t want you coming along.”

James’ face hardened, and he glared at Danika.

Since when had he become Jolene’s man? “Get in the car.”

Danika didn’t say much else.

She got in the car and left with James.

Through the rearview mirror, she could see Jolene still standing where she was.

The hatred was clearly visible in her eyes.

But who would care? Neither of them talked about Jolene in the car.

Danika was silent, saying nothing.

James saw how quiet she was and thought she was worried about her business.

“What are you thinking about? Are you worried about the sales reports?”

“No.”

Danika shook her head.
