“You bitch! I was planning to torture you slowly before I took your life. But since you’re so eager to fight me, I’ll let you die now!”.

With that, Tessa brandished the knife and charged.

Audrey avoided a direct confrontation and merely dodged Tessa’s attacks.

Now that Audrey was no longer under Tessa’s control, Tessa could not use her as leverage against Cornell. Audrey hoped that, once Cornell arrived, they could defeat Tessa together.

However, Audrey had underestimated the extent of Tessa’s madness.

Tessa pulled a handful of white pills from her pocket and swallowed them in one gulp.

They were pills the fisherman used as stimulants. They were made with a unique formula of fish oil. After consuming two, that fisherman became exceptionally strong and overpowered Tessa.

Some time later, Tessa ground up several pills and mixed them with the fisherman’s water, which resulted in his death.

Taking a few pills was not dangerous. In fact, she would become remarkably strong.

With renewed strength, Tessa lunged at Audrey and cursed, “Go to hell, bitch!”

Before Audrey knew it, Audrey was pinned to the ground by Tessa.

The knife edge was coming dangerously close to Audrey’s eyes.

Audrey gripped Tessa’s hand tightly and tried, with all her might, to stop Tessa from stabbing her.

However, Tessa’s pill-induced strength was overwhelming, and Audrey felt her own resistance waning.

In a desperate move, Audrey kneed Tessa in the lower abdomen. The two struggled and rolled to the edge of a poorly repaired platform.

The knife in Tessa’s hand shifted and now pressed even harder on Audrey’s neck.

The distance between life and death was less than an inch.

Slowly, Audrey’s grip weakened as exhaustion took over. She could only watch in despair as the tip of the knife neared her skin.

Just then, a thunderous roar echoed from the floor below.

“Audrey!”

Audrey’s gaze shifted and landed on Cornell. All around him were bags of money.

Cornell’s heart trembled as he looked up. The sorrow and pain on his handsome face showed clearly in the moonlight.

Audrey’s eyes filled with tears, which ran down his forehead until they fell to the ground.

With what strength he had left, he bit his lip and whispered, “Goodbye, Cornell.”

It seemed that he was at death’s door.

When his strength gave out, the knife would go through his neck and he would fall from the building.

Either way, it would be a fatal end for her.

Seemingly on the verge of sanity, Cornell ignored the blood gushing from her legs and frantically climbed the stairs.

Fear was raging inside him.

In a desperate attempt to keep his strength up, he jabbed at the wounds in his thigh to force himself beyond the limit.

“No, no, Audrey. You can’t die. You can’t…

Tears welled up in Cornell’s stoic expression, blurring his vision.

The instant he reached the second floor, a figure plummeted from above.

Bang! The sound of the impact was deafening.

Cornell’s gaze was transfixed on a vivid crimson puddle on the floor.

The next second, his strength left him and he collapsed to the ground.

Cornell collapsed to the ground. He tried to stand up, but to no avail.

His legs refused to support him, leaving him motionless on the ground.

Moreover, a numbness spread through him. It was as if his heart had stopped beating, leaving him feeling empty and lifeless.

“Mr. Clement!” Matteo came in with a team. His eyes quickly followed Cornell’s gaze to the motionless figure on the ground in the middle of the pool of blood.

Although he was used to grisly scenes by now, Matteo was still shocked by the scene before him.

“Mrs. Clement…” Matteo managed, his voice strained with emotion.

Cornell shook off Matteo’s help and pointed at the figure.

“Go… Confirm,” Cornell ordered in a barely audible voice. He had to see it for himself before he could accept it.

“Of course.” Matteo approached the figure in hopes of discerning identity.

The person, face down and severely wounded, was unrecognizable.

Moreover, blood, mixed with a ghastly, viscous substance that might have been brain matter, soaked the floor. The sight was so horrible that no one wanted to look at it.

One of the bodyguards was unable to digest the scene and vomited on the spot.

Matteo crouched down near the corpse and searched for any form of identification or jewelry, but found nothing.

Regardless of identity, it was clear that it could not be left in that state. Matteo ordered one of his team to cover it with a large piece of black cloth.

“Is that her?”

A chilling voice suddenly cut through the silence.

Matteo turned, realizing that Cornell had approached silently.

After a moment’s hesitation, Matteo admitted, “Mr. Clement, I’m sorry, but I can’t confirm the identity.”

“Step aside!” ordered Cornell.

Matteo understood Cornell’s intentions. But personally confirming the identity of the corpse would be distressing. If it was Audrey, the memory of the vision would haunt Cornell forever.

In a gentle attempt to dissuade him, Matteo suggested, “Mr. Clement, perhaps we should wait for the forensic team to confirm. This is not something you should see….”.

His words were cautious, but the grim reality was unmistakable.

The gruesome mixture of brain matter, skull fragments and blood was a sight no one should witness.

Nevertheless, Cornell disregarded Matteo’s advice. He pushed him determinedly and knelt beside the covered body.

Cornell appeared calm on the outside, but his inner turmoil was evident in the way he dismissed Matteo.

Moreover, his body was trembling with barely contained emotion.

Seeing Cornell distressed, Matteo tried to intervene once again.

“Mr. Clement…”

Cornell paid no heed and reached out for the black cloth.

His fingers trembled as they drew closer. A few anguished seconds later, he finally grasped the corner of the cloth.

For five long minutes he remained motionless, silent, not even breathing. Then, in a sudden movement, he brought his arm to his forehead, his body shaking uncontrollably.

“Mr. Clement…” Matteo rushed to support him.

Just then, Cornell stood up and declared, “It’s not her.”

Cornell’s intense reaction was one of immense relief. He looked like someone who had gone through hell only to find a sudden glimmer of hope.

In the midst of the chaos, one of the bodyguards shouted, “There’s another one over here!”.

Everyone rushed over and found a man on the ground. He had miraculously avoided serious injury, except for a sharp bamboo stick through his leg.

Then, like a gust of wind, a figure rushed over, knelt beside the wounded man and shouted, “Henley! Henley!” Henley!”

Matteo’s eyes widened in disbelief. It was Audrey, very much alive.

Noticing Matteo’s presence, Audrey quickly asked, “Where’s the ambulance?”

Matteo was stunned for a second and then blurted out, “It’s outside.”
