“Of course.”
The bulletproof vehicle that was driven from Leichtown to pick up the colonel had been waiting for a while at the hotel’s underground parking.
The aide courteously opened the door for Liam, who entered the car after bidding his family farewell.
Then, he rolled down the windows and reminded Alyssa with some concern, “Do not ever entertain that
Walsh fellow. Let him be. Got it?”
“Okay! I got it! Bye, Liam!” Alyssa smiled demurely in front of Liam, unlike her usual headstrong character. She even seemed gentler than Tatiana.
After seeing Liam off, Silas and Cyrus returned to their respective jobs.
On the other hand, Alyssa asked Jonah for a ride because she had had a lot to drink and needed rest, given her injuries.
“Ms. Alyssa, I’ll send you home,” Sean interjected and approached her without thinking. Taking care of
Alyssa had become second nature to him.
“If you come with me, who’s going to stick with Tatiana? She drank a fair bit too!” Alyssa wrapped an arm around Tatiana’s waist and playfully nudged her toward Sean.
Tatiana, who was already dizzy, lost her balance and nearly collapsed after being shoved. Fortunately,
Sean was quick to catch her in his arms.
With her head against his chest, she looked up in a daze. Their eyes locked, and an electrifying sensation passed between them, causing them to breathe raggedly.
Tatiana instantly sobered up when Sean hugged her. Her entire face and neck blushed from the exchange between them.
“Ms. Tatiana, look out,” Sean warned. He thought she was drunk from the way she failed to steady herself.
Concerned, he pulled her closer with his hand on her waist.
All of a sudden, his heart skipped a beat, and his throat went dry. He couldn’t help but admire Tatiana’s tiny waist in his grip.
Still, as a gentleman, he quickly pulled himself together without betraying any hint of desire.
“Sean, please send Taty back. Thanks!” Alyssa yelled.
She had always been observant, but she was much more relaxed and careless around family. Up until then, she failed to pick up the subtle tension between Sean and Tatiana.
She waved at them and left, arm-in-arm with Jonah. It was only Tatiana and Sean alone after that. The air between them froze, leaving them rather flustered.
“Um, Lyse! Lyse!” Tatiana called out feebly, her heart pumping wild.
Sean reassured her with a straight face and a gentle tone, “Don’t worry, Ms. Tatiana. I promised Ms.
Alyssa I’ll send you back to campus.”
“I-It’s okay! I just had a few sips. I’m not that drunk,” she insisted. Staring at her feet, she gently pushed him away to prove she wasn’t drunk.
Despite that, Sean held her again out of concern. “Look at you saying that you’re not drunk! Do you remember what happened when you said the same thing last time-“
Both of them were startled at his words. They were reminded of their light kiss on that night that started it all.
He stared blankly at her rosy cheeks. His heart was beating fast, and his chest swelled with some inexplicable emotions.
“S-Sean, I had too much to drink the last time. I’m… I’m sorry…” Tatiana muttered an apology with a frantic and guilty look.
Any woman with a little courage would have taken the chance to confess her love.
However, Tatiana was a copy of Lyla-timid and unsure of herself. Despite sharing a kiss with a kind man
She believed that Sean was Alyssa’s, and she wouldn’t want to get involved with Alyssa’s man.
“Ms. Tatiana,” Sean gulped and cautiously prodded. “Was that… your first kiss?”
“Oh, it’s fine, Sean. I had too much to drink. Please don’t overthink it.” Tatiana forced a smile.
The guilt hit Sean like a train. “Was it really… your first?”
He stumbled a few steps back and apologized sincerely, “I’m sorry, Ms. Tatiana! I was wrong and unprofessional. How can I ever make amends?”
Her heart froze. She was tortured by her crush, who had no other feelings except for guilt and reverence toward her.
“It’s really okay, Sean,” she replied after taking a deep breath to stop her tears from falling. She helped him
“Be extra nice to Lyse If you really want to make it up to me.”
On their way home, Alyssa grew drowsy as she rested her head on Jonah’s shoulder.
She had initially planned to ask Jonah what Liam had said to Jeremy, but she quickly dismissed the thought, knowing it likely wasn’t pleasant.
Liam might appear soft and kind, but he could be more sharp-tongued than she was.
She didn’t want to hear what Liam had said about Jeremy, not because she felt sorry for Jeremy. Rather, she would be upset if her family disrespected the man she once loved with all her heart.
“Lyse, are you asleep?” Jonah suddenly whispered.
“No. What is it, Jonah?” she replied, her mind drifting.
“Can you sense it, too?”
She cast him a confounding look.
Jonah smiled. “Did you notice something between Sean and Taty? I could be mistaken, but I have a feeling they might be flirting.”
Oh.
Wait.
Flirting?
She widened her eyes as she stared agape at him. “Jonah, did you have too much to drink? You’re joking, right?”
“I don’t joke about matters of the heart. You probably didn’t notice earlier because you were high. When
Sean held Taty, they both blushed and seemed a little awkward. Taty’s expression was the same as how you used to look at Jeremy.”
Alyssa lowered her gaze speechlessly. She grumbled, “Why must you involve me in Taty’s affairs?”
Meanwhile, she secretly processed the relationship between Sean and Tatiana. She did not even realize the chemistry between the two.
“Sean is all grown up. He’s going to turn 30 soon. After his college graduation, he served as my secretary.
Later, i sent him to work as your secretary, which he did not complain about. Year after year, he’s been tirelessly dedicated to his work, hardly taking a break,” Jonah remarked, placing an arm around Alyssa’s shoulder.
He added, “I hope you’ll support him if he decides to pursue someone else and start a life of his own.”
Frustrated, she punched the window and hissed through gritted teeth, “How could he do this without telling me? He’s behaving exactly as he appears-a player!
“Men are truly the worst! He just confessed his love for me, and now, he’s pursuing Taty. Taty is my only sister. I’ll exile him if he has any indecent thoughts about her.”
“Did Sean confess to you?” Jonah lifted a brow in shock.
“Yeah, but I turned him down,” Alyssa admitted. She had always been honest with Jonah. “He’s a good guy, but I don’t have feelings for him. I don’t want to waste his time because I don’t plan to date after the divorce.
“But how could he go after Taty right after he confessed to me? That seamless timing is quite suspicious. I’m worried Taty will get the short end of the stick.”
“Lyse, Sean is not that type of person. Regarding the timing, I think he just didn’t realize his feelings for
Taty after being by your side for so long. You were his first love, after all, and he was used to showering you with his care and affection,” Jonah opined in seriousness.
“Hmm? How could he not notice he’s falling for someone else?” she asked skeptically.
Jonah squinted his eyes with an amused expression and quipped, “Relationships aren’t always straightforward. Take Jeremy Walsh, for instance. He once again saved your life after 13 years.
