Danika felt great seeing the family reunite. She turned to Graham and thanked him for all his help.
“I’m your father, Danika.Don’t need to be so courteous.”
Graham didn’t like how her attitude seemed to put some distance between them.
Danika smiled but said nothing.
Father or not, he wasn’t obliged to help her, so she truly was grateful he had.
“Why don’t you head home first? I’m sure you have a lot on your plate now after leaving for a week.”
She didn’t want to hold up his time longer than necessary.
Graham nodded. He was about to leave when he asked, “Will you be home for lunch?”
“Probably not.”
She’d likely be invited for lunch with the Zelliots.Plus, she really didn’t want to deal with Rowena and Jolene.
Graham nodded.
Danika was a grown woman now and could think for herself.
“Come by for dinner tonight, then.”
Danika agreed.
After he left, she waited until the Zelliots had finished their exchange before walking over.
“Why don’t you guys go back first?” she suggested, noticing a small crowd had stopped to peek at what was going on.
Stephanie’s mother nodded.
“Yes, that’s best, I believe.Come with us, Danika.I’ll make you lunch.”
The couple knew that Danika was to thank for their daughter’s safe return.
“Alright.”
Danika had planned to in the first place.
The four of them got into the same car and left for the Zelliots’ new home.
It was smaller than their villa in Parrington, located in a small town, but it was the best they could afford right now, with Zelliot Inc still grasping at straws in the midst of their residence change.
Estate prices were higher in Bardoff City, too.
Charles and his wife went to the kitchen to cook while Danika helped Stephanie with her things.
Still, it wasn’t much.
Her mother had prepared most of what she needed.
“It’s good to be home.”
Stephanie sighed, relaxing on her bed.
Having nothing to worry about those days in Paul’s villa had been stress-free, but she had never been happier now to be back home, new house or not.
Maybe it was just the comforts of home that nothing could compare to.
“Don’t worry.Paul won’t be able to get his hands on you for some time.”
Danika lay down beside her.
“What are your plans for now?”
“Helping Mom and Dad with the company, of course. We gotta catch up with you.”
Stephanie beamed. She had decided to really devote herself to her career.
As for romance, she wasn’t in a rush.
Danika agreed with her.She knew that was the best cause of action right now—strengthening the Zelliots so neither Paul nor anyone else could ever threaten them again.
Ungrateful Danika was happy for Stephanie.
“Do your best then. We’ll see how we fare.”
They chatted leisurely for a while before Stephanie’s mother called them to come out for lunch.
Danika joined them and went to the office right after.
When she reached the building, she realized there were considerably more employees than before.
It was a telltale of further imposed management systems, which pleased Danika to no end.
The man and Jade were a power duo, far more effective than she was.
“Jade,” Danika called after knocking on the door.
“You’re back.” Jade smiled, sitting down with her on the lounge.
Danika grinned.
“I remember someone said they didn’t have what it takes to manage a company as big as this.I wonder where they are now.”
“It’s not me.” Jade shrugged.
“You have to thank Alfred, really.I’m still just in charge of the design team, nothing else.”
She hadn’t had a hand in the management, trusting him to take care of everything. She would place her trust in whoever Danika trusted, after all.
Danika was surprised to hear that.
“Though he might not have had the best intentions at first, nor can I say for certain he doesn’t now, one thing’s for sure, he can definitely put in the work,” Jade said.
Danika agreed. It was why she tried her best to convince Alfred to stay and work hard for himself, to let go of his hatred and his attachment to Mortimer Quincey. It looked like it had worked.
Jade then reported the ongoings from the design department, which Danika didn’t question as much.
After all, Jade was far more professional at this than her.
She was about to look for Alfred when Jade told him he hadn’t come in for work.
Danika didn’t mind.
As long as Alfred made sure things continued running, he could do whatever he wanted outside the office.
Alfred, on the other hand, had rented a flat near Jeneration Group. He wasn’t that well-off, even if he was formally appointed as the company’s vice president.
His monthly salary was just enough to get him this place to himself.
It was small, but he didn’t mind.
What he minded was the man standing at his doorstep right now.
“What are you doing here?”
“What am I doing here?”
Mortimer huffed, cheeks reddening.
“I’m your father.Why can’t I be here?”
He felt like he’d get a heart attack one day, triggered by his sons.
Why did it seem like Alfred was following in Eustace’s footsteps of being obstinate? Alfred frowned, equally annoyed.
“Why aren’t you in Parrington? Aren’t you living at the Old Mansion?”
“I got kicked out of the house because of that brat Eustace,” Mortimer said, gritting his teeth.
“All because of you.”
If he had known things would come to this, he’d have strangled Eustace to death as a baby.
That way, he’d still have the family inheritance and live comfortably in Parrington.
Alfred scoffed, What do you mean it was because of me? I never asked you to do anything to him.”
He seemed to have heeded Danika’s words, so now he didn’t hold such a big grudge against Eustace nor salivate after the Quincey Group.
As Danika put it, better to strive and set up his own company than waste his time stealing someone else’s.
“You ungrateful brat, I wouldn’t have done that to him if I didn’t want you to take over Quincey Group!”
Mortimer yelled, cursing whatever he had done in his past life for all the suffering he had experienced through his sons today.
