Chapter 222 – The Alpha’s Pen Pal Novel Free Online by Allie Carstens

I blink. “What?”

She steps in closer to me, licking her lips and batting her lashes, her hands sliding up my chest and draping around my neck. Her fingertips trace my hairline, sending a shiver of pleasure down my spine to my toes. “If you’re so worried about other males watching me, dancing with me, and touching me—then do something about it so they can’t.”

Her fingers linger on my neck, then she steps away, but I take her wrists in my hands and tug her back towards me until her lean, muscular body is flush with mine, and her head tilts to look at me. I grab her hips as her palms meet my chest again, making her move them in time with the music, and I lean in until my lips touch her ear.

“You are mine tonight,” I say, my thumb caressing her stomach just above her waistband. “No one else in this bar gets to dance with you. Understood, Cadet?”

She continues moving her hips, swaying and dancing to the music, a smile tugging on her lips as I pull away from her ear. Her eyes glitter, stars of desire peeking through the otherwise midnight expanse of her stare, ensnaring me and entrancing me. She slides her hands around my neck, her body rubbing against mine as she dances. “Understood. But that means you have to keep up with me, Beta.”

Gone is the scared, skittish rabbit from Tuesday. In its place is my girl, my Taryn. The feisty, spunky, sassy, and sexy female who has broken through all my defenses and wormed her way into my heart. I don’t know what happened between then and now to trigger her about-face, but I’m not complaining. I love this side of her.

I breathe out a laugh and move my hand to the small of her back, spreading my fingers across her warm, smooth skin and pressing her closer to me. “Trust me. That won’t be a problem.”

“We’ll see.” She winks and pushes off my chest, taking my hand in hers and leading me to where everyone else is dancing.

She slides into place with the group, and I sidle up behind her, one hand on her hip and the other wrapped around her, palm flat against her tight stomach. Her hips move, and I move with her, following her lead and keeping hold of her.

Her body brushes against mine, taunting my senses. She alternates between facing me and facing away from me, and I can’t decide which I love more—looking down into her eyes as her arms drape around my neck and her breasts push against my chest or wrapping myself around her from behind, her ass teasing my dick.

Both are beautiful torture. Both have me ready to throw her over my shoulder and take her out to my car so I can drive her cute butt home and lay claim to her body, reenacting every fantasy I’ve had about her this week while jacking off. I’ll strip her down and kiss every inch of her smooth skin, drawing out moans and sighs from her plump lips, and then I’ll sink my cock deep into her warm, wet pussy, fucking her hard until the early hours of the morning.

I lose track of time, of the number of songs we’ve heard since we left the booth. Music plays, people sing, and everyone dances, but it all fades out of existence until it’s only Taryn and me.

“Thank you for that performance!” Jake says as Imogen finishes singing The Spice Girls “Wannabe” and takes a bow.

The crowd cheers and applauds, and I take Taryn’s hand in mine to lead her back to the table to grab a quick drink of water before a new song begins, but the next words out of Jake’s mouth stop me in my tracks. “Our next performance will be a duet—will Taryn and Reid come to the stage, please?”

his hand gripping mine, his body tense. “Did you put our names in?” he asks, whipping around to look at me.

“No. Did you?”

He shakes his head, his eyes wide. “I’ve been dancing with you. When would I have had a chance?”

“And when would I have had a chance?”

He snaps his mouth shut, then turns his eyes towards the table, jaw clenching. I follow his gaze to where Sebastian sits, grinning, giving us a thumbs up.

“Dickhead,” we say together.

We look at each other again, smiles threatening to appear on both our faces.

“Reid? Taryn? It’s your turn! Get on up here!” Jake calls.

I bite my lip and raise my brow at him. “I’m game if you’re game?” he says

“It’s better than going up there alone, I suppose…” I look around again, glancing at his friends and eyeballing Sebastian. Reid adjusts his grip on my hand, lacing his fingers through mine. “Fuck it, let’s do it.”

He grins and turns, pulling me with him. I follow, clinging to his hand, staying close as he weaves us through the crowd, my other hand gripping his upper arm.

He steps onto the stage and turns to help me up, keeping my hand in his. We walk to the DJ, where the list of names and songs is, Reid’s hand on the small of my back, skin against skin, guiding me and sending shivers skittering across my skin like water droplets on a drum.

“Is this your song?” the DJ asks.

We lean over the paper together, shoulders touching, looking at where he points, at our names, and the requested title scratched across the page in what I assume is Sebastian’s handwriting.

“Do you know it?” Reid asks, turning his face to mine.

He’s inches away, and his warm breath brushes my cheek, but I ignore it, ignore how it makes my already racing heart beat faster, how it raises the hair on my neck. “I do, yes,” I whisper with a brief nod.

“Great,” the DJ grunts, handing us each a microphone. “Have fun.”

I take a deep breath and meet Reid’s eyes again. The same mixture of excitement, fear, and nervousness I feel stares back at me. I swallow, and my heart rate picks up even more, rattling my ribcage and quickening my breathing. I came here for Blake, for her birthday, since she wanted to get out of the pack for the night. But I was going to let her do all the singing and just sit and watch. Getting up in front of everyone and singing was not part of my plan.

Reid licks his lips and squeezes my hand, stepping up to my side and putting his lips on my ear again. “You’ve got this,” he says, his deep voice washing over me and soothing my panicking heart. “You are Taryn Campbell, badass warrior werewolf, and you’ve faced tougher challenges than this without batting an eye. You can sing in front of these people.”

My wolf preens at his praise, and I nod, his nose tickling my skin as I do. “You’re right.”

His lips curve upwards, and his eyes sparkle. “And I will be with you the whole time.”

He darts forward and kisses my cheek, so fast and so gentle—just a quick brush of his soft, warm lips against my skin—I’m sure I imagined it. But as I whip my head towards him, he smiles bigger and winks at me.

“Don’t worry. It doesn’t count,” he says.

Before I can respond, he pulls me to the edge of the stage just as the music kicks on and the intro to Elton John and Kiki Dee’s “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” plays.

My hands shake and my palms sweat, but the lights are so bright the crowd is outlines and silhouettes, not a single face able to be made out. Not even Haven’s bright red curls or Blake’s white streak in her hair. And as Reid’s strong and sure voice echoes through the speakers, all my doubts and insecurities vanish, pulled to the edge of the crowd along with his voice.
