He continued, “Will triggering and upsetting me to no end make you happy? Is that what you need to finally get over your anger?”
“Aha. I knew it.” Alyssa sneered. “Why did you stand up for me earlier, hm? Don’t you know how disgusting two¨Cfaced cowards are?”
Disgusting.
The word struck Jeremy’s heart like a molten stake. All he felt was anger¨Canger and aggravation.
How was it that this woman always managed to cross his anger thresholds every time?
“Don’t… make me hurt you, Alyssa,” Jeremy hissed, leaning into her. “Don’t think I’d go easy on you just because of our marriage. You’re no different than any other competitor of mine!”
Alyssa blinked slowly, not the least bit angry. In fact, she even seemed excited. “There we go,
Jeremy. An opponent always makes this game fun. I should probably tell you a secret then.”
She leaned over to his ear, then whispered, “I was the one who gave the authorities evidence of
Henry Kirkman’s crimes. I was also the one who leaked the news to the media.
“You should really be thanking me. I’m sure you were really concerned when Sophia got.
appointed President.” “
Jeremy’s face had warmed up with their proximity, but now it felt like knives had sliced across his heart.
“The art of war, Mr. Walsh. It applies to the business world too. If you don’t give it your all, you will crumble before everyone else’s. Out of respect for you, I’ll be sure to give double my all next time.”
Alyssa shot him a dazzling grin, then pushed him away before marching out like some proud.
queen.
Jeremy was left alone in the changing rooms, feeling like the wind had been punched out of him.
In a matter of hours, the Walsh Group made the headlines nationwide and across all social media. A video of Sophia being dragged off the golf course had surfaced and soon became viral all across the web.
A company as big as Walsh Group could have easily silenced such an internet movement.
Unfortunately, Alyssa had gotten to them before they could, so it was useless.
The company behind the news channel that streamed the 3:00 pm breaking news had KS Group as their main shareholder. Hence, they followed Alyssa’s whims and instructions.
In fact, if Alyssa asked, they could even make a silly remix of it and stream it 24/7.
Some creative content creators had even turned Sophia and Betty’s dumbfounded, shocked, and aggrieved expressions into stickers and emoticons. They soon became everyone’s top¨Cused stickers.
Javier was doing all he could to quell the rumors by getting Sophia back from the Investigative
Bureau, feeling as if he had lost a solid decade of his life.
Meanwhile, Alyssa was happily skipping back to KS World Hotel, where she enjoyed high tea before continuing to play her game in her office. She then reported what happened today to Jonah via video call.
“I’ve booked a private dining suite in the restaurant downstairs for my meeting with Orlander Hodgson the day after tomorrow. We’ll definitely be getting this project in hand before the end of the week!” Alyssa cried happily, enthusiastically hacking at several victims in her video game.
She continued, “Silas is giving her quite the special treatment right now. Unlike when he’s around us, he’s always so serious when he’s at work. He’s not going to let up on her unless she gives up.”
Jonah was lounging in his private office in the video camera, looking like a regal, refined lion. He answered slowly, “It won’t be much use. Sophia will be released soon enough.”
“Do you want her to be released?” Alyssa asked curiously.
Jonah smiled. “Does it matter? We might not be able to incriminate her.”
Alyssa grinned, equipping her bloody chainsaw. “Sophia didn’t get to where she was today just because of Javier pampering her. She has her cunning side too.
She had worked with her brother to gain secret profit while pretending to be a saint in front of everyone else. She used Henry as her weapon while she stayed in the dark, giving the orders. How keen, hm?”
Jonah nodded thoughtfully. “I hear you. It’s just a pity, is all.”
“No, not a pity at all.” Alyssa grinned. “Anything that benefits KS is always good. Plus, I never planned to do her in one go. I want to see her lose her post as company president and then lose
Javier Walsh’s trust.
“I want him to think their company lost this project because of her. That way, there will be a rift between those two.”
Killing was fun. But sometimes, it was better to toy with the prey.
Sophia would likely live out the rest of her days with the Walsh’s feeling aggrieved and trapped.
“Do you know what I want to do right now, little sister?” Jonah suddenly asked, leaning forward.
“No. What is it?”
Jonah sighed and gave her a slow clap. “I want to resign from my position and pass it on to you.
There’s no person better to support this mantle right now.”
Alyssa’s face turned crestfallen at that.
If only her father didn’t insist on her marrying someone. The list of bachelors Winston kept note of was enough to suffocate her.
Just then, Tatiana called her.
With a grin, she said, “Hanging up now. Taty’s calling.”
“Alright. Take care of her while she’s back in the city,” Jonah reminded warmly.
“Of course. She’s my only baby sister. How could I not?”
In truth, Alyssa had always felt guilty toward Tatiana. Tatiana was the youngest among all their siblings. She should be the one being doted on at home, yet in reality, Alyssa had always taken that spot. She had been Winston’s favorite since the day she was born.
Though she hadn’t meant to take that away from Tatiana, she still tried her best to make up for it
Tatiana was always considerate and grateful, so Alyssa never really knew how to pamper her.
“Taty! Are you back in the city?” Alyssa asked happily over the phone.
“Yep, I’m at the school,” Tatiana replied. She sheepishly asked, “Um… Are you doing anything tonight?”
“You wanna hang out?” Alyssa immediately knew what Tatiana was up to.
“Mhm!” Tatiana eagerly answered. “We haven’t had a chance to properly spend time together since you came home. Why don’t we have dinner tonight? My treat!”
“Just dinner? No drinks after?” Alyssa teased.
Tatiana’s tone took on a mischievous edge. “Drinks afterward, then! We’ll go for some karaoke too.
We haven’t had that much fun in ages. I’ll definitely sing better than you.”
“Hahaha! You’re on!” Alyssa laughed. “We’ll see who’s the final victor tonight!”
During the board meeting at the Walsh Group, Javier emphasized three critical directives. The first was to eliminate any negative consequences resulting from the actions of Sophia and Henry, with the aim of halting the company’s tarnished reputation and preventing a decline in its stock value in the market.
Secondly, Javier called for the removal of all of Henry’s authority and his official title. He also urged for immediate investigations into the projects that Henry had overseen, along with interrogations of all relevant personnel involved. 1
Finally, to strip away Sophia’s authority and title on the board. He emphasized that any additional changes would be contingent upon the completion of the ongoing investigations.
Everyone left the conference room feeling like they had just participated in a war, feeling thoroughly exhausted and stressed.
“Stay back, Jeremy. I want to have a word with you,” Javier said to his son before the latter could leave.
Jeremy turned around silently and went to sit back in his seat.
:
The atmosphere grew heavy and tense, even though it was just the two of them.
Javier cleared his throat and asked sternly, “How would you handle this issue as CEO?”
