He was consumed by a profound sense of guilt.

Would Venessa ever forgive him?

Gabe stared blankly at the necklace, a profound sense of fear gripping his heart.

The sister he had cherished for eighteen years, who had endured so much pain and torment, must surely despise him now…

The thought of losing her in this lifetime, of being despised by her forever, overwhelmed him with sorrow. It nearly consumed him.

But why wouldn’t she back down?

All it took was for her to act a little sweet and coax him, and then he would start treating her well again.

The entire Pierce family would find ways to compensate her. She might even have a better life than she did four years ago!

At the end of the day, it all came down to her being too stubborn.

Her personality was such that she would be at a disadvantage no matter where she went!

At this thought, Gabe became increasingly agitated, and in his frustration, he tossed the necklace out of the car.

That night, Venessa received a call from Harriet and learned that Gabe had done something truly earth-shattering.

“Vena, come back quick. Your dad has something to tell you.”

“What a coincidence. I also have something to say to you all.”

When Venessa returned to the Pierce residence, everyone was gathered in the living room.

No one spoke. Every face was devoid of expression, casting an unusually solemn atmosphere.

Upon her entrance, it was as if Alaric was performing a play. He abruptly slapped Gabe across the face and berated angrily, “You ungrateful child, you even dared to offend the Lorimer family? Do you want our whole family to pay the price for your actions?”

Gabe, nursing his swollen face, remained defiantly silent.

“Dad, don’t punish Gabe! He’s innocent. If it weren’t for Venessa’s sake, he wouldn’t have crossed the Lorimer family…”

Tears streaming down her face, Madison flung herself onto Gabe.

With just one sentence, she had successfully drawn the fire toward Venessa.

Venessa genuinely experienced what it felt like to be inadvertently caught in a crossfire.

Harriet was also crying as she tried persuading Alaric to stop.

“Alaric, what’s the point in hitting the child? What’s most crucial now is to figure out a solution to this issue. We need to find a way to ensure the Lorimer family doesn’t hold a grudge against Gabe.”

“Mrs. Lorimer is notoriously vindictive; how else could she have raised a spoiled heiress like Tiffany? Just look at what happened to Venessa! It’s clear how ruthless both mother and daughter are!”

Alaric was feeling utterly helpless. He let out a deep sigh before turning his gaze toward Venessa, his tone carrying a hint of reprimand as he said, “You’re back, Vena? Why is it that as soon as you return, your brother ends up causing trouble for you?”

For a moment, Venessa was lost for words. Then, she finally spoke. “May I ask, what did I do? Was it me who told him to beat up a maternal relative of the Lorimer family? Mr. Alaric, could it be that you’re planning to distort the truth about me again, just like you did four years ago?”

“What did you just call me? Mr. Alaric? You don’t even call me ‘Dad’ anymore. After spending years in jail, have you forgotten basic manners?” Alaric said unhappily.

Venessa didn’t respond to the question. He should know the answer to why she didn’t call him “Dad” better than anyone else!

With a stiff expression, Gabe pleaded on her behalf, “Dad, this has absolutely nothing to do with Vena. If you have to blame someone, just blame me!”

“Shut up!” Alaric snapped irritably.

“If the Lorimer family truly decides to blame you, I would risk my life to save you. After all, you’re my only son, aren’t you?”

The implication was clear – if something were to happen to Gabe, Alaric would rather die than not protect him.

Madison willingly stepped forward and spoke. “Dad, I won’t let anything happen to you. If the Lorimer family really blames us, then let me take the fall!”

“No, you both can’t get into trouble. You two are my only children. If anything were to happen to either of you, I couldn’t bear to live!” Harriet exclaimed with teary eyes.

Gabe was the only son of the Pierce family, while Madison was the legitimate daughter. Neither of them could afford to get into trouble.

In that case, who was the most suitable one to take the blame?

Alaric and Harriet simultaneously turned their gazes toward Venessa.

With just one look, it became crystal clear to Venessa.

Do they actually get a kick out of making me take the blame?

Sorry, but I’m no longer the Venessa from four years ago!

At that moment, Harriet’s phone rang.

After hanging up the phone, she enthusiastically announced, “Good news! Gabe is fine now. Ms. Layla, the second daughter of the Lorimer family, spoke up for us. The Lorimer family won’t hold it against him.”

Madison said joyfully, “I heard that Gabe and Ms. Layla grew up together and were childhood best friends. Since she has taken action, Gabe is definitely safe.”

“However…” Harriet’s joy lasted no more than three seconds before her gaze fell back on Venessa’s face, her expression turning serious.

Venessa was perplexed, wondering why Harriet was looking at her with such an expression.

After a moment of silence, Harriet finally said, “Even though the Lorimer family doesn’t blame Gabe, we still owe them an explanation. Ms. Layla has spoken, stating that since the matter originated from Vena, it was only right for Vena to personally apologize.”

“Fantastic!” Alaric was overjoyed, not even waiting for Venessa’s agreement before he commanded in a decisive tone, “Venessa, you need to go to Lorimer Estate and apologize right now. Remember, your attitude must be sincere.”

Venessa lifted her gaze, a simmering rage flickering in the depths of her eyes.

“I’m not going because I’m not a member of the Pierce family.”

“If you’re not a member of the Pierce family, then whose family do you belong to? You’re the cause of this mess, so you have to go!” Alaric snapped, irritated.

Venessa looked at him expressionlessly.

“Could you have forgotten, Mr. Alaric? Four years ago, just a few days after I was thrown into prison, you personally brought me a declaration of disownment for me to sign. After signing it, I changed my surname to Windsor, following my biological father. I came here today to make this clear to all of you. I am now Venessa Windsor, not Pierce. Hence, I won’t get involved in your family matters.”

Gabe was stunned beyond belief.

“Dad, is it true? Did you really sign a document severing parental ties with Vena four years ago? Why would you do such a thing?”
