she walked out of the house and pulled her sunglasses on. It was early, and the sun was shining brightly. He loaded the suitcase and got in behind the wheel of his Bently and looked at her.

“We’ll be late if you don’t leave soon.”

She told him.

“Do you have your passport and travel documents?”

he asked as he put the car in gear and drove them away from the estate.

“Yes.”

She stated simply,

“Don’t worry, I will get on that plane.”

She murmured and turned to look out the window.

“You look very different,”

he commented.

“The dress suits you.”

“I know.”

She answered,

“You don’t have to be nice to me, I get it Calvin.”

“You get what exactly?”

he asked. She shook her head slightly. He really did think she didn’t know the truth.

“That you found the woman you want to be married to. That’s why we’re getting divorced, so you can marry her.”

He was quiet for a long moment and then stated,

“You’re right on that.”

“How is she going to feel about my clause? Are you not going to tell her? Does she even know you’re taking me to the airport?”

“She’s aware of all of it,”

he commented. She just nodded but said nothing, wondered though if that woman had kissed him yet, gotten something she never could. Knew why, but how was she not to want it when they’d slept together all the time, and all the things he would do, all the places that mouth of his would go, and the only thing he wouldn’t bloody do was kiss her on the mouth. She understood she was hung up on it, but it was because she was in love with him, and wanted to experience it just once. She’d had to force his hand to get it even, make a deal with him that she’d leave and never come back. For just one kiss. She knew women had kissed him before, he’d been single for a long time, was 8 years older than her, and was a bachelor who had women all the time, girlfriends before her. She’d seen him in the society pages lip-locked with other women. It was just her he wouldn’t bloody kiss.

The car pulled up at the drop??ff zone to the international airport, and she looked down at her left hand. She was still wearing her engagement and wedding rings. He’d not asked for them back, but she knew it was time to part with them. As he opened his door to get out, she slipped them off her finger and looked at them as they lay in the palm of her left hand. They did not belong to her anymore.

She opened the car door and stepped out, allowed those rings to fall from her hand onto the seat she’d been sitting in, then just took a breath in as she closed the door and left that life behind her. She stepped up onto the footpath and stood waiting for Calvin to bring her, her luggage.

He placed it on the ground and rolled it towards her,

“Do you really think that’s enough luggage for a month??ong trip?”

he asked as he stopped walking and looked at her.

“It’s enough for where I’m going.”

She nodded and looked right at him, only to have him frown at her. He still didn’t want to kiss her and she knew it. She’d even dolled herself up to make it easier for him, tried to look nice for him to help make him feel it wasn’t a chore. Yet still, he just stood there and looked down at her.

A full minute passed, and she nodded a little, looked away from him and tried not to be angry. Her lips were pressed together as she held in the emotion of knowing he really didn’t want to kiss her even just once. A half snort came from her, and she finally looked at him once more.

“Is it really so hard, Cal?”

she asked.

“It’s just one kiss, you’ll never have to look at me ever again after this.

Do I really ask…”

She could feel the tears welling, and there was a shimmer to her vision and she tried to blink it away

“Too much of you.”

She finally got out and heard the tremble in her own voice, as pain touched her.

He was still just standing there looking at her, and she knew that yes it was. Her eyes fell away from him, and she nodded

“I see.”

She murmured and reached out for her suitcase. It was time to leave regardless of him not holding himself to that clause he’d agreed to. d hers His hand was on her face, he cupped it gently and turned it back towards him, and his mouth to the moment she looked up into his eyes, and he kissed her softly, but chastely. His mouth parted from hers, after just a brief moment, and she knew that was it.
