Filed to story: I Got Married Without You
It felt like being morally trapped, unable to make a decision, and it was quite distressing.
In the busy hospital, Jayden kneeling like this attracted the attention of many people.
Eva’s heart felt heavy, as if burdened by one heavy mountain after another, unsure of what to do.
Jayden didn’t say anything either, just kept looking at her with his red eyes, silently.
Unable to stand it anymore, Eva could only nod reluctantly, feeling suffocated.
Seeing her nod, Jayden finally relaxed his whole body. “Eva, thank you.”
After shaking her head, Eva bent down and helped him up without saying a word.
After Jayden stood up, he said to Eva, “I’m going to find my mom now and tell her to stop interfering us.”
Eva responded with a sound of agreement but didn’t follow him. When she turned around, she bumped into Rosalyn standing not far away.
Eva’s nose tingled, and for some reason, she suddenly wanted to cry, but her stubborn nature made her hold back.
Rosalyn walked over and saw her teary eyes covered by a thin mist, so she quickly reached out and hugged her.
“Eva, it’s okay.”
No matter what Eva encountered, Rosalyn would always be her strong support. They had been relying on each other for many years as family.
Rosalyn’s embrace gave her a bit of strength, like finding someone to lean on, allowing Eva to let go of her exhaustion and rest her head on Rosalyn’s shoulder. Rosalyn, I’m a bit tired.
“If you’re tired, then go rest.”
Rosalyn didn’t say anything else, didn’t ask any questions, just supported Eva as they got into the car and drove her home.
After sitting down in the living room, Eva reached for a box of cigarettes, took out a thin one, and lit it. But then she remembered that Rosalyn was trying to conceive, so she put it out.
Rosalyn, who had just brought warm water over, saw her extinguish the cigarette in the ashtray and thoughtfully said, “If you want to smoke, go ahead. I might not even be able to get pregnant.”
Eva shook her head. Rosalyn’s biggest wish was to have a child with Andrew. Whether she could conceive or not, Eva couldn’t smoke in front of her.
Rosalyn handed her the cup of warm water. “Have some water.”
Eva reached out and took it, taking a sip. “It’s my own fault. I shouldn’t have wanted to marry a reliable man just to prove a point or to build a home of my own. Now that things have turned out like this, it’s my own doing.”
She opened up and Rosalyn no longer avoided the topic. “Eva, it’s not wrong for you to want to build a home of your own. But don’t take everything on yourself. No one expected Jayden’s mother to resort to self-harm to force him, and no one expected Jayden to kneel and beg. It’s truly a difficult situation, and it’s not your fault.”
A bitter smile tugged at Eva’s lips as she replied, “When I was with Daniel before, I thought it was love because he treated me well. I gave everything to him without hesitation. But then I was betrayed. I thought I had learned from these experiences and understood everything, but now I realize it was just my own arrogance.”
Thinking she could have a stable life by marrying Jayden, and also escape her orphan status, she was unaware that when social class came into play, she wasn’t even worthy. “A woman like me, who has been married before, shouldn’t delude herself with thoughts of marriage.”
Rosalyn stepped forward and grabbed Eva’s hand, giving it a firm squeeze. “Eva, don’t say that. Everyone has the right to dream. of marriage. It’s just a matter of whether it turns out happily or not.”
Eva’s eyes filled with helplessness. “Why is it that everything I encounter is unhappiness?”
Rosalyn didn’t know how to respond to this. Indeed, Eva had only experienced unhappy relationships.
Her ex-husband Daniel betrayed her, Paul was just a fling, and with Jayden, she thought they were a perfect match, only to discover his true character.
Staring at Eva’s gradually thinning face, Rosalyn sighed heavily. “By not rejecting Jayden just now, his mother will definitely cause more trouble.”
Eva knew Natalie would cause trouble again. “In that situation, I really don’t know how to refuse. Every time I see him like that, I just can’t bring myself to be firm.” After speaking, Eva thought about Paul again, he had never resorted to self-harm or kneeling when he begged for reconciliation, unlike Jayden…
Why did she think of Paul again? Could it be that she still hasn’t moved on?
Feeling restless, Eva put down the cup in her hand and slumped onto the couch, staring blankly at the ceiling.
In Rosalyn’s impression, Eva had always been decisive and straightforward, but when it came to Jayden, she hesitated.
Unable to contain her curiosity, she asked, “Eva, why can’t you bring yourself to reject Jayden?”
Yeah, why couldn’t she make up her mind?
When she rejected Paul, she did it without hesitation, so firm and decisive. Why was she hesitating with Jayden?
She pondered for a long time, but couldn’t figure it out. Then Rosalyn enlightened her, “Sometimes I get morally blackmailed and can’t make up my mind.”
Eva suddenly looked up, “Yeah, cutting wrists, suicide, kneeling down, aren’t those considered moral blackmail? But Jayden doesn’t seem like the kind of person who would do those things.”
Rosalyn couldn’t just rely on her feelings and assume that Jayden was morally blackmailing Eva, so she changed her question, “What are you going to do after that?”
Eva responded without any hesitation, “When Jayden gets fed up with his mother’s nagging, he will compromise…”
Eva was telling the truth. If it were the woman, maybe the parents couldn’t break them up, but with the man, it’s not certain. Since she can’t refuse now, she’ll just go along with it for now.
After chatting with Eva for a while, Rosalyn remembered that Andrew was waiting outside, “You rest well at home, I’ll come see you after I finish taking Grace tomorrow.” Eva got up to see her off and asked, “Is Grace okay?”
Rosalyn replied, “She’s fine. When Jocelyn tried to snatch Grace, Andrew arrived just in time.”
Knowing that Andrew was there, Eva knew that everything would be handled, so she nodded and said, “That’s good. I’ll accompany you to court on that day.” Rosalyn agreed, then got into the car and waved goodbye to Eva before turning her attention to the man beside her, “Are you tired of waiting for so long?” Andrew put down his phone, picked up Rosalyn, and let her sit on his lap, “Did Miss Miller and Mr. Sherwood break up?”
“Huh?”
Rosalyn hooked her fingers around his neck and asked suspiciously, “You never used to care about these things, why are you so interested this time?” Andrew’s expression was calm, showing little emotion, “I was just asking casually. It’s okay if you don’t want to say.” But he could find out anyway.
Rosalyn pinched his cheek, “Since my husband is so nosy, I’ll tell you. Eva and Jayden didn’t break up.”
Andrew’s eyes darkened, as if waiting for something, growing impatient. He said in a low voice, “Miss Miller has a good temper.”
Rosalyn didn’t understand the meaning behind his words and thought he was praising Eva, “Of course, Eva has always been known for her good temper.”
Andrew smiled and remained silent. Rosalyn left for three years, during which Paul’s neck and arms were often scratched by Eva. Is that considered a good temper?
Jayden sent his parents back to France, Eva settled down and focused on managing the nightclub, while Rosalyn prepared for the court hearing.
On the night before the hearing, Rosalyn couldn’t fall asleep no matter how hard she tried. When she went downstairs to get some water, Grace, holding a small pillow, walked up to her and tugged at her nightgown.
“Auntie, don’t worry, I will choose you for sure.”
Rosalyn’s heart warmed, she put down her glass and crouched down to meet Grace’s gaze.
“Why aren’t you sleeping so late?”
