Then, with a mock air of innocence, Corey raised his voice. “Oh, my bad-I forgot you’re married to Caden now. I shouldn’t bring up our past in front of your husband.”
Alicia stared at Corey, speechless. What past? This man would say anything to get under her skin.
Without missing a beat, Alicia turned to a waiter. “Could you please bring this gentleman ten boxes of hangover medicine?”
The waiter hesitated briefly but quickly obliged, accustomed to eccentric requests from wealthy clients. Corey was caught off guard. He hadn’t expected her quick thinking and felt deflated.
Meanwhile, Caden stepped between them, shielding Alicia from Corey. But instead of losing his temper, he remained calm.
Even as they left the elevator, Caden kept Corey at a distance without a word.
Unbothered, Corey smirked and teased, “Why are you so protective? Can’t I ask a simple question as a friend?” Caden responded evenly. “Did I stop you?”
Corey sneered, “Your expression says otherwise. Dark, brooding, and angry-it’s written all over your face. What’s the matter, Mr. Ward?”
Caden suddenly stopped and turned to Alicia, his face calm but firm. “Wait for me in the car.” Alicia didn’t leave immediately.
Corey, noticing Caden’s simmering anger, tried to provoke him further. “Why send her away? Don’t you want her to watch us fight? It could be entertaining.”
Alicia let out a derisive smile before walking away. “I’m not a fan of messy scenes. But Caden, make sure to hit hard. Thanks.”
Corey was momentarily stunned.
As Alicia’s footsteps disappeared, Caden calmly rolled up his sleeves.
Corey grinned, unshaken. “Oh, so you’re furious now? How’s that anger tasting, huh?”
Without a word, Caden grabbed Corey’s collar and dragged him into the stairwell. “You really think I’d believe anything you say?”
Corey laughed defiantly. “Well, I haven’t slept with Alicia, but we’ve had plenty of meals together. I even ate the meals she made for Gemma. Delicious, by the way.” Corey’s grin widened as he added, “She’s left plenty of personal stuff at my place. And when we went out, I even ate her leftover ice cream. Her saliva is sweeter than the ice cream itself.”
Alicia waited in the car for nearly half an hour before Caden finally approached. His chest heaved as if he’d just run a marathon, and his shirt clung tightly to his muscular frame.
Alicia’s gaze lingered before snapping out of it. “Did Corey touch you?” she asked, eyeing him for injuries.
Caden, slightly hoarse and out of breath, replied, “He didn’t lay a finger on me. And he’s fine-just too drunk to throw up, so I kicked him to help him sober up.”
Alicia couldn’t help but chuckle. “With that kick, he probably threw up everything, including his dignity.”
Caden quickly called someone to pick Corey up before driving back to the Ward Mansion with Alicia.
Though Caden wasn’t hurt, the scrapes on his knuckles told Alicia he hadn’t held back.
Alicia thought about the next day as she applied ointment to his hand. “Gemma should feel better tomorrow. I’ll buy her a gift and visit her at the hospital.” She glanced out the window and spotted a shop. “Stop here-I’ll grab something.”
After making her purchase, Caden surprised her by buying an ice cream cone.
Alicia blinked. “I thought you didn’t like sweets.”
“Felt like having some,” Caden said casually, offering her the first bite before finishing the rest in a single gulp.
Alicia stared, stunned. “Aren’t you worried about freezing your throat?”
Caden shrugged, unfazed.
Something about his mood seemed off, but Alicia couldn’t quite figure out what it was.
Back at the Ward Mansion, Alicia felt drowsy and longed for a nap. However, before she could head upstairs, Caden wrapped his arms around her from behind, pulling her close. He kissed her neck softly, their fingers intertwined as his chest pressed against her back.
Half-asleep, Alicia was too weak to resist his teasing and let him do as he pleased. She murmured, running her fingers through his short hair, “Are you jealous?”
Caden smirked, continuing to kiss her. “Why would I be jealous?”
Alicia whispered, “I never bought hangover medicine for him. He made that up.”
Her explanation only fueled him further, his kisses deepening. He pressed into her more forcefully, the cabinet rattling with the intensity of his passion.
Tears welled up in Alicia’s eyes-not from pain, but from the sheer intensity. Her nails dug into his taut muscles as she gasped his name.
Caden stopped abruptly, his breath uneven. “Did I hurt you?”
Alicia’s cheeks flushed, and she buried her face in his chest. “No.”
In truth, she had enjoyed every moment. Even though she didn’t vocalize her feelings, Caden could sense it. Her body told him everything. His jealousy faded, and he lifted her up, carrying her to the bedroom..
Alicia was thoroughly exhausted after her intimate encounters with Caden.
She woke up to darkness. The room was quiet, and the bed beside her was empty. The faint sounds of cooking from the kitchen reached her ears.
She snuggled deeper under the blanket, the warmth cocooning her. For a moment, her mind was blank. But as her thoughts began to settle, she couldn’t help but think about her earlier intimacy with Caden and his odd behavior.
At first, everything had seemed normal. Alicia and Caden had been intimate twice, and he had restrained himself well. But as she grew too exhausted to resist, he changed his approach, teasing her mercilessly, stopping just before the edge, denying her satisfaction. He had pushed her to say things that made her blush, but his expression had remained unreadable.
Hours later, Alicia still couldn’t figure out what had upset Caden. Her mind wandered back to the ice cream they had shared before coming home. Caden never liked sweets or anything cold-so why had he insisted on it? Unable to make sense of it, Alicia decided to confront him. She grabbed a shirt-his shirt-and tossed it on before padding into the dining room.
Caden was at the stove, cooking steak, and the rich aroma made her stomach rumble. Without hesitation, she slipped behind him, wrapping her arms around his waist and pressing her cheek to his back.
“My legs are sore. Will you give me a massage later?” Alicia asked.
Caden turned slightly, his gaze meeting hers. The shirt she wore-his shirt-hung loose on her frame, falling just past her hips. His eyes darkened. “Not wearing underwear?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
Alicia met his gaze without flinching. “I forgot.”
Caden’s jaw tightened. She was a seductress without even trying, and he was a man who couldn’t resist her. “Let’s eat first,” he said, his voice low, almost strained. “I’ll massage your legs afterward.”
He knew, and Alicia knew, it wouldn’t stop at just a massage.
Once dinner was over, Caden carried her to the dining table, kneeling to massage her legs as promised. His hands skillfully moved, but soon his lips replaced his touch.
Alicia, though still tired, didn’t resist. She let him do as he pleased, cooperating with languid ease.
Caden sensed something was off but didn’t stop, whispering in her ear, “What are you trying to get out of me this time?”
Her eyes glimmered with mischief as she whispered, “What were you so upset about today?”
This time, Caden didn’t deny it. “I’m over it now.” But Alicia wasn’t fooled. There was something more. She tilted her head, deciding to tease him until he cracked.
Caden, however, wouldn’t easily give in. “Do you want your husband to suffer from premature problems at a young age?”
Alicia smirked, though she was equally breathless. “Tell me why you’re angry, and I’ll stop.”
Caden narrowed his eyes. He wasn’t going to let her win this one. With a sudden move, he flipped her over, channeling all the pent-up energy he’d saved after dinner.
Afterward, as they cleaned up, Caden didn’t say a word, but one look from him was all it took. Alicia sighed, immediately knowing what he wanted her to do next.
“When did we develop such a silent understanding?” Caden asked.
Alicia blinked, her voice sleepy. “Probably a few months after we got together.”
Caden suddenly asked, “And when did you and Corey develop that same kind of understanding?”
The question jolted Alicia. Her gaze snapped to him, startled. So that was what this was all about. She kicked his chest lightly, letting out an exasperated laugh. “You were upset all afternoon over something so petty?”
Caden didn’t even blink. “You call this petty?”
Realizing he was just being childish, Alicia sighed in relief. “Fine, I was wrong. I won’t look at him anymore.”
Caden’s stern expression didn’t budge. “Alicia, what kind of apology is that?”
Alicia groaned dramatically, sliding under the dining table. “You clean up. I’m going to shower.”
Caden could only stare, speechless.
After her shower, Alicia’s hunger returned. She poked her head into the living room where Caden sat on the sofa, scrolling through his phone. “Make me something sweet,” she said.
“Two minutes,” Caden replied without looking up. “What are you so busy with?”
Alicia leaned over, peering at his screen. He didn’t bother hiding it.
Alicia froze when she saw he was browsing photos of beautiful women. “What are you doing?” she hissed.
Caden smirked, pulling her into his lap, his fingers casually pinching her thigh. “Looking for someone I like at first glance.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Are you expanding into the entertainment industry, scouting female artists?”
“No, I need a new secretary.”
Alicia couldn’t believe her ears.
“I’ve been busy lately and could use a second one,” he added.
She stared at him, dumbfounded.
Raising his phone, Caden pointed at a photo. “How about her? She looks smart. I bet she’d know what I’m thinking with one look.”
Alicia’s lips parted, immediately catching his implication. This was his way of getting back at her.
Alicia took a deep breath, her expression calm as she released his neck. “Fine. She’s great. She’s attractive, confident, and a perfect match for you.”
Without missing a beat, she pulled out her phone and, right before Caden, blocked every one of Corey’s contacts. “There. Happy now? And for the record, I haven’t spoken to Corey since we returned. Even during those two years in Xada, we only exchanged a few work-related words.”
Caden paused, caught off guard.
