Just as the staff was about to shut the door, a foot stopped it abruptly. He looked up, surprised to find Corey.

“Mr. Hampton, what brings you here?”

The laboratory staff looked around cautiously and, seeing no one else, invited Corey into the laboratory.

Corey asked, “What did Regina ask you to do just now?” It turned out this laboratory staff was one of Corey’s insiders. He held his official position here but also managed various side projects, including confidential paternity tests.

He was responsible for Alicia’s previous test report. He candidly shared with Corey, “She didn’t specify whose DNA it was, just instructed me to inform her of the results promptly.”

Corey picked up the two strands of hair. Both belonged to women. Could it be Yolanda’s and Regina’s? Or Alicia’s and Regina’s? Uncertain, Corey handed the hair back to the staff.

“Let me know the results as soon as you can, alright?” The laboratory staff nodded and said, “Don’t worry, Mr. Hampton. I assure you there will be no errors.”

When Corey stepped into Yolanda’s room, he first asked, “Did your mom stop by to see you?”

Yolanda responded with irritation, “Why bring her up?”

“So, did she visit or not?”

“She was just here. I have no use for her fake motherly love!”

Corey smiled knowingly. With a touch of hypocrisy, he said, “Though she may seem distant, she still loves you. Your recent actions are concerning, and she’s just worried about your future.”

Yolanda snapped back angrily, “What love? If she hadn’t been in poor health, would I have been born with all these health issues? My dad gave up so much for my treatments, and she did nothing! Now she teams up with outsiders to scold me. If it wasn’t for my dad, I’d have cut ties with her a long time ago. She’s worthless.”

Corey laughed.

“So, if your dad had to choose between you and your mom, who do you think he would pick?” Without hesitating, Yolanda replied, “He would definitely choose me!”

Corey remained silent, just offering a smile.

Her? So naive. Regina and Dorian had been through everything together, united in heart. Dorian’s love for Yolanda was simply an extension of his love for Regina. If Regina could have had more children, Yolanda might not be in her current position.

“Enough of this. Where’s the stuff?” Yolanda demanded impatiently.

Corey handed her a box of pills.

Yolanda looked at it skeptically.

“How effective are these?”

Corey answered, “They’re from Terriland. My connections use them to liven up their gatherings.”

A wicked smile formed on Yolanda’s face.

“Alicia, your good days are numbered.”

“Find a decent man and make sure Alicia is safe,” Corey advised, his tone serious.

Yolanda’s eyes narrowed.

“I thought you cared for her.

How can you just stand by and watch her get hurt?” Corey’s expression remained cold.

“I do care, but not in < the way you think.

I don’t care who ends up hurting her.”

Yolanda let out a laugh, sharp and unexpected.

Just imagining the scene sent a thrill through her.

She knew that Caden’s obsession with cleanliness was so extreme that even someone as flawless as Alicia wouldn’t matter once she was raped.

“Do you have anyone in mind?” she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.

Corey paused, thinking.

“It would have to be someone who could meet Caden’s impossible standards and still hold Alicia’s interest…

but there’s only one.” Meanwhile, Alicia walked briskly back to her office.

After each argument with Caden, she reminded herself to stay strong and not shed a single tear over someone unworthy of her.

Crying would only drain her, and she had better things to do.

As she made her way back, she repeated positive thoughts, turning her sadness into a quiet determination.

By the time she arrived, her gloomy mood had lifted, replaced by a burst of energy.

That evening, fuelled by her newfound determination, she announced bonuses for every department and booked an extravagant dinner at the city’s most exclusive restaurant.

It was her way of setting the tone for the day and lifting everyone’s spirits.

The office buzzed with excitement as the working day came to an end.

Alicia’s assistant slipped into the room with a twinkle in her eye and beamed at her boss.

Alicia noticed the change immediately and smiled.

“What’s going on?” she asked, a hint of curiosity in her voice.

in her voice.

The assistant blushed and took a step closer before wrapping her arms around Alicia in an unexpected embrace.

Alicia chuckled and returned the hug.

“What’s this all about?” she asked amusedly.

With a shy smile, the assistant whispered, “Miss.

Bennett, do you like my new perfume?” Alicia gave it a gentle sniff and smiled.

“Yes, I really do.

It’s lovely,” she said, feeling an unexpected lift in her spirits.

“Is it new?”

The assistant’s eyes lit up as she nodded.

“Yes, my boyfriend gave it to me.

We’ve been having a long-distance relationship and he’s finally coming to visit on holiday.

I thought it would make him happy to wear it.”

Alicia’s smile softened.

She knew exactly how that felt, the anticipation, the small gestures that spoke volumes.

The flushed cheeks of the assistant made it clear that tonight was going to be special.

“It smells wonderful.

I mean it,” Alicia said warmly.

“Now go, don’t keep him waiting.”

Blushing, the assistant reached into her bag and pulled out a small, new bottle.

“If you like it, here’s one for you.

Maybe for tonight… with Mr Ward.”

Alicia’s eyes widened and she whispered, “Shh.”

The assistant giggled and covered her mouth playfully.

“Good night, Ms. Bennett.

Don’t stay too late yourself.

” With a nod and a grateful smile, Alicia accepted the bottle and tucked it into her bag.

As she watched her assistant leave, she felt a twinge of amusement.

She turned back to her desk, determined to finish the work that had piled up, but somehow found herself distracted by an online game.

Each game seemed worse than the last, and frustration crept in until she finally rested her head on her desk and looked at the time.

Ten past.

She sighed, knowing it was time to go home.

Caden wouldn’t be picking her up and it wouldn’t be safe to stay out later.

As she unlocked her apartment door a thought crossed her mind: Was Caden home?

With his temperament, he was unlikely to come home early after an argument – maybe not at all.
