He slammed his hands on the table, shouting, “Get those two extras in here!”
He couldn’t take his anger out on Alicia, but the two extras were fair game!
Meanwhile, at the media company, Gerry sat in stunned silence, watching as his film soared to the top of the adult film rankings.
“What? Mr. Hopkins’ new work is trending at the top?”
“Breaking the mold with a single take, it’s straightforward and bold – a true masterpiece!”
“It’s about time he switched things up; his previous animations were both boring and expensive.”
“I love it! Please make more. Next time, could you find a female lead with a smaller bust? This one looks too big and fake.”
“I never imagined he would collaborate with Corey. It’s a real surprise.”
“How did he manage to persuade Corey to use robots as a new marketing gimmick?”
Gerry’s shock deepened the more he read.
It was utterly absurd.
His previous films, which had cost hundreds of millions, made no impact despite the fortune spent on them. Yet, a low-budget adult film, created for a mere tens of thousands, had stirred up such a commotion – though it was hardly a commendable achievement.
Gerry allowed himself a fleeting moment of amusement at this strange success before anxiety washed over him like a cold wave.
The film was intended to disgust Corey; he never anticipated it would spiral out of control like this. In a state of panic, he hastily funneled money into quelling the trending topic.
The power of money worked its magic swiftly.
Within just an hour or two, the situation was under control.
Meanwhile, Alicia was equally bewildered by the turn of events. She explained, “I just wanted to teach Corey a lesson because he used your chip to profit. But I didn’t expect anyone to uncover that this film was Mr. Hopkins’ work. He won’t be affected, right?”
Caden scoffed, “This is a big problem.”
Alicia’s eyes widened in alarm. “What kind of problem?”
“He’s been losing money on his films, all financed by his family. His father already has issues with him, and now, with this trash of a film, he’s bound to get a good beating.”
Alicia clutched Caden’s hand tightly, her heart racing. “What should we do? I need to see the Hopkins family and apologize. I’ll tell them it was all my doing.”
After saying that, she began changing her clothes.
Caden set aside his project plan and followed her.
Alicia quickly selected two outfits. “You are coming with me.”
Caden shook his head. “I don’t want to join the chaos.”
Alicia shot back, “What chaos? I don’t know what the Hopkins family is like. What if his father gets so furious he takes a swing at me? You could at least help mediate.”
Caden imagined the scenario and couldn’t help but smirk.
“I might reconsider,” he said, his gaze lingering on Alicia’s slender waist. “If you sweet-talk me a bit.”
Alicia rolled her eyes. “Fine, then I’ll take Cade with me. At least he can protect me.”
Caden was taken aback by her words, the surprise etched on his face.
When Alicia called Gerry, he was already a bundle of nerves. Caden was right; he had just received a message from home demanding his immediate return for punishment.
Clinging to the hope that Alicia would join him, Gerry exclaimed, “My mom really likes you. If you come, my dad might go easy on me because of you. Where are you? I’ll come pick you up.”
Alicia replied, “I’m at my apartment.”
Stubborn as always, Caden didn’t hear what he wanted and resolved not to go.
He sat by the window, soaking up the sun while working.
Meanwhile, Alicia took the border collie and left.
Suddenly, Caden caught a glimpse of Gerry stepping out of his flashy sports car to chat with Alicia.
A frown creased his brow; Gerry always had a knack for drawing attention to himself.
With a frustrated huff, Caden tossed aside what he was holding and followed them downstairs.
As Gerry was about to drive off, he saw Caden approaching and blinked in surprise. “What are you doing here?”
Caden’s expression was stern as he replied, “It’s been a while since I visited your family. I thought I’d drop by and say hello.”
Gerry eyed him skeptically, unsure of his intentions.
He had no reason to turn Caden away, but the sleek sports car only had two seats, and there was no way to squeeze him in.
“Maybe another day…” Gerry began.
However, before he could finish, Caden cut him off. “We’ll take my car. If you drive that flashy sports car, it will only make your dad angrier. He might just toss you and the car out of the country.”
Gerry considered this for a moment before nodding in agreement.
After parking his car, Gerry saw Alicia and Caden sitting in the back seat, a dog nestled between them. He frowned and asked, “You want me to drive?”
Caden smirked. “Or what?”
Gerry protested, “Do you really expect someone of my status to take the wheel? Isn’t that a bit inappropriate?”
Caden raised an eyebrow and countered, “You drive, and I can guarantee you won’t face any physical punishment today.”
At those words, Gerry’s expression changed instantly.
He climbed into the car with new resolve. “Being a driver now and then isn’t so bad. It’s a new life experience.”
In the back seat, Alicia and Caden exchanged a glance. Their eyes were as cold as ice.
Alicia broke the silence, asking, “Aren’t you supposed to stay home?”
Equally impassive, Caden replied, “Didn’t you say you were bringing Cade?”
Alicia’s lips twitched.
Gently stroking the soft fur of the border collie nestled beside her, she asked, “Are you Cade?”
“Of course,” Caden replied, his tone laced with mischief. Although Alicia knew Caden was shameless, she hadn’t anticipated his audacity, especially with Gerry in the car.
She sighed and turned to look outside the window.
Caden’s hand reached over the dog and intertwined his fingers with hers.
Alicia wasn’t angry; she let him hold her hand, though she instinctively glanced at Gerry, who was focused on the road.
As time passed, Caden grew restless. The dog seemed to take up too much space, so he decided to move it to the front passenger seat.
Gerry protested, “If the dog sits up front, the cops will punish me. What are you thinking?”
Caden shot back, “You’re from the Hopkins family. Why are you afraid of that?”
Gerry sighed. “A ticket is nothing compared to what I’ll face at home. If my dad finds out I’m causing trouble, I’ll get a beating.”
Caden laughed, mercilessly teasing, “Scared of your dad and your brother? You might as well call yourself a coward.” With a swift motion, he nudged Cade toward the window, swapped places with the dog, and sat beside Alicia.
Seeing his obvious actions, Alicia finally felt a bit embarrassed and gave him a stern glare.
Gerry noticed it and teased, “Can’t you two stop being all lovey-dovey for even a minute?”
Caden shot him a serious look. “Then just close your eyes.”
Gerry smirked. “If I close my eyes while driving, you’ll end up in hell without a clue.”
Caden had no intention of crossing any boundaries in the car, especially since Alicia tended to be shy and reserved around friends.
Bored, he began to toy with her ring finger, gauging its size.
Alicia squirmed at his touch, an involuntary ticklish sensation prompting her to retaliate by curling her fingers and lightly scratching his palm.
Caden felt a fleeting itch in his heart.
He gently closed her hand into a loose fist, leaving a small gap, then slipped two fingers playfully inside.
Alicia barely registered the gesture until Caden, wearing a teasing smile, said, “Quite soft.”
Her mind raced back to the suggestive things he often whispered in bed. “Lucky, you’re soft everywhere. So soft. Especially here. It’s like you could just melt away.”
A blush crept across her cheeks as she pinched him, muttering through clenched teeth, “Can you not be so flirtatious in someone else’s car?”
Caden flashed a charming smile and leaned closer, pretending to be oblivious. “What was that? I didn’t quite catch it.” He brought his ear closer to her lips.
Alicia reached out to pinch Caden, but he seized the moment, capturing her lips in a kiss.
Gerry watched the scene unfold and rolled his eyes dramatically. Why were they kissing all of a sudden? Get a room!
Jealousy surged within him, prompting Gerry to honk the horn loudly.
