Chapter 278 – When His Wife Can’t Forgive

Filed to story: When His Wife Can’t Forgive

Sensing a story, the reporters zoomed in with their cameras. A showdown appeared imminent.

Accustomed to having her way without restraint, Yolanda was unconcerned with timing or subtlety.

She said, “Why all the chatter? Did I strike a nerve?”

Alicia retorted, “You’re the one who’s been talking nonstop, yet you accuse me of being long-winded.”

Yolanda’s expression shifted as she prepared to retaliate, but Alicia cut her off. “I can show right here whether the chip works perfectly, but not without a condition from you, Miss Moss.”

Undeterred, Yolanda replied, “If you’ve really fixed the chip, I’d accept not just one, but ten conditions.”

A slight smile played on Alicia’s lips, determination sparkling in her eyes. “Alright, then.”

Alicia proceeded to the exhibition hall on the first floor, where the Q Robot was displayed inside a glass case.

A swarm of reporters, cameras in hand, quickly followed her.

Corey, standing next to Yolanda, his face unreadable, asked, “What are you trying to accomplish?”

Yolanda brushed him off. “You fool, don’t you see you’ve been duped by Alicia? She’s incapable of fixing that chip; she’s merely bluffing.”

Corey asked skeptically, “And how can you be so sure?”

“Just watch and see. With all these cameras on her, the world will soon see Alicia’s charade unravel, humiliating both her and Caden.”

Upon hearing this, Corey glanced at Alicia, his frown softening.

“Really?”

He then grew curious to witness this potential debacle.

As Alicia placed the chip inside the robot, Yolanda drew near.

Alicia turned to her and said, “Miss Moss, given your heritage as Dorian’s daughter, your promises hold weight, correct?”

The cameras all turned to focus on Yolanda.

Unfazed, she responded confidently, “Absolutely, they do. But remember, if you fail, I expect you to leave the company in disgrace! For example, leave this company on all fours and bark, just like a dog.”

Alicia calmly flipped the robot’s switch.

This robot was designed for service, requiring cooperative interaction from the user.

For this, Yolanda had already found the right person.

Mayson had successfully convinced his favorite grandson to get involved.

Stepping back to a safe distance, Alicia watched the robot morph into a human-like form to attend to the young boy.

The child, from a wealthy background, showed no signs of nervousness. His only goal was to explore this new technology, ideally positioning him to assess the robot’s functions. Having recently fixed several key components, Alicia, along with everyone else, watched with serene expectation.

The camera focused closely on Alicia, capturing her unruffled demeanor, which suggested confidence in her success. Yolanda’s gaze shifted towards the robot now and then, though she primarily kept her eyes on Alicia.

She initially watched with certainty, anticipating Alicia’s downfall.

Yet, as the robot continued to perform flawlessly, Yolanda’s face grew rigid.

The easy calm that Alicia naturally displayed only added to the escalating tension.

Yolanda, sitting rigidly, kept her gaze trained on the robot, searching for any defects. Yet, it functioned perfectly.

Since being optimized, its actions were even smoother. Side by side with the boy, they resembled a mother and child in their harmony.

Alicia, bored by the lack of action, fetched her phone and started tapping the screen.

Without hesitation, Yolanda asked, “Alicia, who are you trying to call for assistance?”

With a chuckle, Alicia replied, “Why would I call for help when I’m not in any trouble? I’m just playing Snake. Care to try?”

Yolanda found herself at a loss for words.

When she saw Alicia genuinely engaged with the game, Yolanda couldn’t help but feel irrationally angry. “Nuts!”

Meanwhile, the broadcast camera continued to focus on both of them.

Hank couldn’t help but laugh out loud at Alicia’s casual demeanor as he and Caden watched the scene unfold.

Caden shot Hank a frown, causing him to quickly modify his expression.

The more Hank pondered, the more something seemed amiss. He asked, “Mr. Ward, Ms. Bennett has won. Why aren’t you happy?”

With a shrug, Caden responded coolly, “What is there to be happy about?”

Alicia spoke freely in his presence because he allowed it.

But would Yolanda give her the same leeway?

Alicia was now in Corey’s domain. What if she inadvertently caused offense and found herself in a predicament?

Worried about her well-being, Caden’s face grew increasingly stern. Abruptly, he rose to his feet.

“Remain at the office and ring me should any issues arise. I might not make it back later.”

With a nod, Hank replied, “Alright… huh?”

Sensing that he might not return, Caden had instructed him to call in case of emergencies.

How did that make sense?

Upon Caden’s arrival at Corey’s company, the chaos surpassed anything the live broadcast had depicted.

The robot’s trial was approaching its conclusion.

The Q Robot’s chip had been expertly fixed, now functioning better than ever, which intrigued all the reporters gathered.

“Alicia, this can’t be right. You didn’t fix this,” Yolanda said, glaring at Alicia.

With a serene demeanor, Alicia responded, “Miss Moss, do you have any proof for your accusation? Without proof, that’s slander, and I could involve the police.”

Yolanda’s hands balled into fists.

She moved in close to Alicia, her voice tense as she said, “You want proof? Alicia, I’m aware of your method for fixing the chip. Once I track down your accomplice, you’ll regret it.”

“Are you referring to the phone conversation you overheard in the restroom?” Alicia murmured with a smile.

Yolanda’s eyes narrowed sharply.

Alicia added, “I deliberately said that loud enough for you to hear. Given your temperament, I knew you’d stir things up, though I hadn’t anticipated such a quick and thorough response with all these reporters.”

Yolanda felt a cold shiver at her words.

Why did Alicia need all these journalists present?

Corey, who was nearby, watched them interact.

Satisfied with the repair and keen to avoid further issues, Corey moved toward them. “Alicia, let’s go somewhere quieter to discuss your compensation.”

He gently pushed Yolanda aside as he spoke.

Catching this, Alicia gave a soft laugh. “Miss Moss, didn’t you mention earlier that the loser has to meet one condition set by the winner? Have you forgotten?”

Yolanda, furious, shouted, “Just one condition? What could possibly be beyond the Moss family’s capability? Why this urgency?”

Alicia coolly responded, “Actually, this condition doesn’t involve the Moss family. You can handle it by yourself.”

Yolanda gave a derisive snort.

They were at Corey’s premises, under Dorian’s vigilant management of Warrington, which meant Alicia wouldn’t risk taking any drastic actions against her, bold though she might be. She guessed that Alicia might, at most, request some monetary compensation.

Yolanda whipped out her checkbook and thrust it towards Alicia. “Fill it out!”

The camera zoomed in for a closer shot as a collective gasp rose from the reporters.

Yolanda’s beauty was showcased by the lighting that illuminated her face.

Yet, her beauty masked a much less appealing character.

Once, she had almost killed a dog and had modified a robot to resemble Caden’s late mother for dubious purposes. Her actions were often vengeful, selfish, and narrow-minded. They were fearless, bolstered by her influential father.

Alicia’s eyes caught sight of Benedict and Caden on the edge of the crowd. Even Dorian had shown up. Seeing them reminded Alicia to stay vigilant.

However, holding back wasn’t part of Alicia’s plan.

Facing the camera, Alicia looked directly at Yolanda and said slowly, “As you mentioned earlier, leave this company on all fours, barking as you go.”

The crowd fell silent, stunned by Alicia’s words. Every gaze in the room was fixed on her.

“Have you lost your mind, Alicia?” Yolanda shouted, her voice sharp with fury. “Do you even know who you’re talking to? You expect me to grovel like a dog?”

The swarm of reporters buzzed into action, cameras flashing as they captured every moment of the escalating scene.

“Turn those cameras off!” Yolanda yelled, eyes blazing. She lunged toward one of the reporters, but Corey’s bodyguards intercepted her, blocking her path.
