Chapter 277 – When His Wife Can’t Forgive

An hour drifted by, and Alicia, weary and parched, stepped out to grab some water.

Just as she had taken a few sips, faint footsteps echoed behind her.

The steps were slow, measured, and anything but friendly.

Alicia’s instincts kicked in, and her muscles tensed. As the person approached, she swiftly sidestepped.

Suddenly, hot water sloshed across the table, narrowly missing her.

Alicia froze momentarily, but when she turned and saw Yolanda, her guarded expression eased.

“Oh, it’s you, Miss Moss.” Alicia took another sip with practiced calm. “Must you really go through all this trouble yourself? I would hate for your delicate bones to crack under the strain.”

Yolanda responded with a scoff.

Caught red-handed, she showed no trace of regret, her face twisted in smug amusement. “You might have dodged this time, but your luck won’t hold. Next time, maybe I’ll use sulfuric acid instead.”

Alicia wasn’t rattled by Yolanda’s malicious words. She had seen this side of her too many times before..

However, what caught her off-guard was Yolanda’s demeanor. There was none of her usual fragility to be found.

The pieces clicked into place in Alicia’s mind. “You’ve been faking your illness all along, haven’t you?”

Yolanda’s lips curled in a sneer.

Her frail act wasn’t a lie, just a tactic. She had simply stopped taking her medication. Looking weak and helpless was her best weapon for keeping Dorian’s unwavering indulgence.

But she had no intention of sharing that with Alicia.

Instead, she warned, “Enjoy your success while it lasts, Alicia. The higher you climb, the harder you will fall. I’ll be waiting for the day you make a fool of yourself.”

Alicia said nothing, her face an unreadable mask as she returned to the tech room to continue her work.

She thought it over, a sly grin playing on her lips as a devious plan began to form.

When Alicia stepped out again, she noticed Yolanda lingering nearby. Opting for caution, Alicia quietly made her way to the restroom.

Yet, Yolanda spotted her in passing and felt a spark of suspicion flicker to life.

Therefore, she decided to follow her.

Meanwhile, Alicia was in the restroom alone.

Yolanda could hear Alicia making a hushed phone call through the door.

“Can you help me remotely now?” Alicia’s tone was low, almost honeyed. “This is way more complicated than I thought. I figured Corey called me in just to record some audio, but it turns out this chip has major issues. I’ve been sitting here for hours and have barely made progress. If Corey finds out I’m stuck, he will never let me off.”

There was a pause before she sighed. “What? You can’t help either? Then what am I supposed to do? There’s no way I would turn to Yolanda for assistance.”

Outside the door, Yolanda chuckled triumphantly, a sly grin spreading across her face.

She had correctly deduced Alicia’s inexperience.

How could a novice possibly work on such a complex chip? When Alicia finally emerged, she caught a glimpse of Yolanda’s shadow slipping around the corner.

Alicia smiled softly to herself, then calmly washed her hands.

It took her over three hours to complete her work.

When she came out of the tech room, she asked, “Have you released Blake?”

Corey responded, “Of course. The undercover captain who came with you has already taken him away.”

Alicia handed over the chip.

“The functionality remains unchanged, but I have re-recorded the human dialogue and optimized it. Without these enhancements, your clients wouldn’t be satisfied.”

Corey raised an eyebrow in surprise.

Alicia had managed to achieve a level of work he hadn’t expected.

As they descended the stairs, Corey couldn’t help but indulge his mischievous side, asking, “You’re so considerate. Are you keeping me as a backup plan, just in case Caden decides he’s had enough of you?”

Alicia shot him a glance, shaking her head. “Are you living in a dream world?”

Before Corey could respond, the elevator arrived at the ground floor. The doors slid open, revealing a swarm of reporters with cameras flashing, blocking their path.

“Mr. Hampton! I heard the Q Robot has been repaired. Can we see the results now?”

“You’re Ms. Bennett, aren’t you? Were you the one who worked on it?”

“But Ms. Bennett, aren’t you dating Mr. Ward? Why are you here with Mr. Hampton, his rival?”

Chaos erupted swiftly at the scene.

Several onlookers started broadcasting the turmoil live on the internet for the world to watch.

Secluded in his own space, Caden quickly became aware of the unfolding events.

Caught off guard, Alicia found herself surrounded by a throng of reporters, looking like a deer in headlights.

During the live stream, Corey appeared surprised but quickly summoned security while protectively wrapping his arms around Alicia.

Observing this, Caden’s eyes narrowed.

Moments later, Alicia gently pushed Corey away, putting some space between them.

Only then did Caden’s expression ease somewhat.

Shortly thereafter, his phone buzzed.

His uncle’s voice came through the line. “Did you catch the live stream?”

Caden responded, “I saw it. You’re not going to start suggesting again that there’s something going on between her and Corey, are you?”

Benedict inquired, “I’m serious. Are the reporters’ claims true? Did Alicia really repair the Q Robot’s chip?”

The skeptical undertone in Benedict’s voice brought a slight smile to Caden’s lips.

“Yes, Corey kidnapped Blake and forced Alicia to do it.”

Benedict expressed skepticism. “Is it really so easy to have such capabilities?”

Caden deliberately misinterpreted his words. “Kidnapping isn’t exactly a skill. Anyone can hire people to do that.”

Benedict hesitated. “I didn’t mean that. I was talking about Alicia’s…”

He tried to suggest that Alicia lacked the technical skills necessary, but his words came out sounding awkward.

Unconvinced, Benedict retorted with a hint of mockery, “Is this just another one of her tricks?”

“Pulling off such tricks would require cooperation from Corey and the Moss family. Do you really think she has that much influence?”

This left Benedict momentarily speechless at the comeback.

It was clear that his argument held even less weight.

As Caden watched the live stream on his screen, he noticed Yolanda watching the events unfold with evident glee from the corner.

The scene was crowded not just with reporters, but also with several well-known industry entrepreneurs, all of whom were familiar faces.

Noting Yolanda’s self-satisfied look, Caden surmised she was behind this.

He stifled a smirk and inquired calmly, “Uncle, are you watching the live stream?”

“I am. Why?”

“Take a look at who’s in the bottom right corner.”

Quickly catching on, Benedict recognized her. “Yolanda?”

Yolanda made her way into the frame of the live stream.

She directed the security to maintain a distance of half a meter from the reporters and flashed a smile at Alicia. “Is the chip fixed?”

Alicia replied with composure, “Yes, it’s fixed.”

Yolanda let out a laugh.

Earlier that day, she had clearly heard Alicia’s calls for help, and no one could assist her. How could the chip possibly be fixed so soon?

She was sure that Alicia’s plan was to slip away quietly, bluffing as necessary. That was not going to happen.

Yolanda crossed her arms, blocking Alicia’s way, and said, “After the Q Robot incident, there’s been widespread anxiety. Corey struggled to find someone to fix it, but here you are, having done it so effortlessly. Everyone is curious about the repair. I’ve set up all the robots. Miss Bennett, please, could you demonstrate for everyone?”

Alicia let out a small laugh and said, “It seems you’re questioning whether I actually fixed the chip.”

“Why would you think that? I’m merely suggesting a demonstration. Ms. Bennett, are you feeling guilty or fearful?” Yolanda responded.

Alicia dropped her typically calm facade and raised an eyebrow.

“Are you trying to provoke me?”
