Chapter 276 – When His Wife Can’t Forgive

Caden pulled her into his lap, gently spreading her legs to rest against his stomach, holding her waist firmly.

Despite it being her time of the month, they could still kiss without restraint.

Alicia squirmed, feeling a certain part of him pressing against her. “Are you a dog in heat?”

Caden drew her closer, inhaling the sweet scent of her hair.

“I can’t help but think of that night at the cinema.”

Alicia paused, a rush of memories flooding back. “Why are you thinking about that night now?”

“Because that night, you were under the influence of something you couldn’t quite handle. Before I was fully prepared, you awkwardly climbed on top in a hurry,” Caden said slowly, each word deliberate and vivid.

“You were more than ready, but being inexperienced meant you got hurt a bit. I found your attempt to act like a seasoned pro both amusing and charming. The more I reflect on it, the more I savor that memory.”

Alicia’s cheeks flushed deep red. “You’re making things up! I wasn’t in a hurry at all!”

Caden chuckled, his breath warm against her ear, making Alicia squirm.

“Oh, really? I happened to have recorded it. Do you want to watch it?”

Alicia blinked in surprise. “Seriously?”

Caden’s lips curled into a playful smirk. “Nah, just messing with you. You fall for it every single time.”

Alicia twisted his arm in annoyance.

Caden continued with his teasing, a sly smile playing on his lips. “I used to wonder why it was only you who could stir anything in me. You’re so delicate, and if I pushed too hard, you would resist, forcing me to slow down and earn every inch. It was exhausting at times. But as we spent more time together, I began to see why we fit so perfectly. Alicia, we’ve grown alongside each other, bit by bit. Both your heart and body have come to accept only me. The sense of achievement that gives me – it’s something I could never get from anyone else.”

Embarrassed and annoyed, Alicia snapped, “Caden, you are so shameless!”

Just then, someone knocked on the door, their tone brisk. “Mr. Ward.”

The voice was unfamiliar, and Alicia glanced at Caden, curiosity flickering in her eyes. “Who’s that?”

Caden patted her butt lightly, signaling her to get up. “You better get going. Otherwise, Corey might actually kill Blake.”

Alicia blinked, suddenly remembering the more pressing matter. She quickly composed herself.

Caden couldn’t resist one last tease. “You were so worried about Mr. Langstaff earlier. And now, with his life at stake, you still find time for a little romance.”

Alicia’s face flamed, but she couldn’t come up with a comeback. She ducked her head and hurried out the door.

As Alicia opened the office door, she was met by a tall man waiting outside.

His posture was firm and resolute.

Caden stepped forward, introducing him. “This is the captain of the criminal investigation team. He will be escorting you to see Corey.”

The captain gave Alicia a polite nod, which she returned, then glanced at Caden, warmth blooming in her chest.

Since she and Caden had already gone over the details, she saw no need to exchange further words with Corey.

Before long, they obtained the chip.

Corey said cautiously, “I’ll release Blake once you’ve handled the matter.”

Alicia’s gaze lingered on him.

With a faint smile, Corey reassured her, “Don’t worry, Ms. Bennett. I have no intention of harming him.”

Without a hostage, he knew she could withdraw at any moment if needed.

So keeping Blake on hand could make negotiating easier.

Corey led her to the tech room to work on the chip.

Around others, Alicia was all business-strict and no-nonsense, like a damper on anyone looking for small talk.

It was Corey’s first glimpse of this side of her.

Her delicate features held more than mere beauty; her intense, focused gaze revealed a fervor for technology, exuding a quiet, composed confidence that was hard to ignore.

Corey’s gaze settled on Alicia, but she didn’t bother to look up.

“I don’t need your help with this. Please leave.”

Corey let out a low chuckle. “I bet you’re not this tough around Caden.”

Alicia raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Does that question have anything to do with the problem I’m trying to solve today?”

Corey had seen her work enough to know that, around people she didn’t like, her temper was just as sharp as Caden’s.

With the chip taking center stage, Corey pushed aside his swirling thoughts and inquired, “You’re doing me a monumental favor. What do you want in return?”

Alicia smiled as she replied, “Caden and I already discussed it. Considering your situation, let’s just call it a goodwill gesture.”

Corey was rendered speechless.

As someone who had scaled the heights of success, he never batted an eye at giving things away. However, being the subject of pity was a bitter pill to swallow, especially coming from a competitor.

Corey refused to accept the gifts. “Spare me the charity. Just tell me what you want.”

Before Alicia could respond, an urgent knock came at the door.

Corey’s expression darkened, and he strode out with purpose.

Not long after, Alicia caught wind of Yolanda’s probing question. “What’s this about, Corey? Didn’t I help you fix the chip? In that case, why call Alicia? Are you trying to insult me?”

Corey’s tone was even, almost indifferent, as he replied, “You fixed the basic issues, yes. But to fully restore it, only Alicia can do it.”

“Is everyone else suddenly incompetent? Why does it have to be her?”

“If you have what it takes, why don’t you take her place right now?”

As the daughter of a wealthy family, Yolanda held her fury in check, refusing to resort to curses.

Instead, she clenched her jaw and warned, “Corey, if you side with Alicia, you are going against the Moss family. Think about your next move carefully.”

Instead of responding to her, Corey coldly commanded his subordinates, “Please escort Miss Moss to the door.”

Yolanda exclaimed, “Corey!”

The door swung shut, muffling her voice.

Alicia remained undeterred, her focus unwavering as she continued her work.

When Corey returned, Alicia said, “Please leave. I don’t want to be disturbed.”

Corey paused for a moment, his gaze lingering on the chip before he turned and walked away.

Yolanda was still outside, standing calmly near the floor-to-ceiling window.

Corey handed her a bottle of water. “If the chip issue isn’t resolved, I’ll be criticized severely. Why would I want to offend those wealthy people?”

Yolanda took the bottle and doused Corey’s face with the cold water.

Her expression turned cold as she said, “But summoning Alicia here is a direct slap in the face to me!”

Corey gritted his teeth, wiping the droplets from his skin. “Yolanda, do you really think I will tolerate you infinitely?” he said, his voice low but firm. “Don’t forget what you once asked of me. Do you not want it anymore?”

Yolanda scoffed. “You’re not the only one who can make that happen.”

Corey’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Sure, but I’m the only one who can handle it smoothly and efficiently. If you drag someone else into this, you’ll be setting yourself up for a disaster.”

Her eyes narrowed as she glared at his smug face, anger bubbling just beneath the surface.

“As long as the job gets done, I’ll overlook your past mistakes, Corey.”

Corey recalled Alicia’s swift actions earlier, then shifted his gaze to the oblivious woman before him, who, with a poker face, seemed to care about little beyond the attention of men.

“Yolanda, after all those years learning technology from Dorian, what exactly have you managed to master?” He let out a derisive chuckle.

Yolanda’s eyes flashed with anger. “Are you questioning me?”

Corey sneered. “Questioning you? I simply don’t think much of you.”

Yolanda’s gaze shifted to the closed door of the tech room, an unwelcome pang of jealousy stirring inside her.

She once dismissed Alicia as just another pretty face, but that illusion was shattered today. Alicia had managed to assist Corey in ways she hadn’t anticipated.

To Yolanda, Alicia was like a thorn buried deep, poised to cause an eruption at any second.

A cold chill of realization crept over her. “Alicia must have trained behind the scenes just to outshine me.”

Corey suddenly thought of something and chuckled.

“Maybe it’s just talent,” he suggested casually. “Some people, like Dorian, are simply born for this line of work.”

Yolanda was too riled up to catch the bite in his tone.

Corey had other matters to tend to and walked away, leaving Yolanda staring at the closed door.

I’m waiting for Alicia’s bio parents reveal. Also, I’m annoyed by how Alicia is becoming submissive to Caden. Like I get that it’s hot but too much is annoying. Atleast address the issues, ‘kay?
