Her lips curled into a faint smile. “Joshua, you’re nothing but a vile, selfish coward. Do you really think you’re worth begging?”
Joshua narrowed his eyes at her.
Veins bulged across his forehead as an angry laugh escaped him. “You’re going to regret saying that, Alicia. ” Without warning, he shoved her aside and ordered Monica to be brought in.
Realizing what he was planning, Alicia’s body stiffened. She lunged at Monica, screaming, “What are you doing? Leave her alone!” Joshua grabbed her by the throat.
As the men jeered around her, Alicia could only watch in horror as Monica was dragged into the room across from them.
The men wasted no time ripping off Monica’s clothes. Monica was powerless to resist as she was still unconscious.
Joshua watched as Alicia sobbed and shook in front of him, laughing like a villain. “There are three cameras in this room. By morning, the whole world will see how Miss Flynn was raped,” he said cruelly.
Without a second thought, Alicia pleaded with him.
“Joshua, I was wrong. Please let her go. I’m begging you, let her go!”
Joshua’s answer was heartless. “If I let her go, you’ll be the one lying in her place. What do you think?” Alicia’s legs buckled and she fell to her knees. Despair clouded her thoughts. She couldn’t think of anything else to say, so she said, “Let her go.
Joshua stood over her. “Alicia, if you do exactly as I say, I will not release the video.”
He knelt down and said to her, “You know who I despise the most. Will you become my pawn and help me destroy him? “Just as his words hung in the air, a thunderous roar came from outside.
Joshua turned his attention to the sound.
A split second later, a black car crashed through the door like a raging beast.
The impact of the door slamming into the front of the car was terrifying.
The loud crash drew the attention of the men, who quickly freed Monica and rushed outside.
The vehicle was wedged in the debris and Caden jumped out, brandishing a cold handgun and immediately opening fire on the group.
Caught off guard by the sudden attack, the men scattered in panic.
However, no one was able to escape.
Within moments, they were all on the ground.
Joshua noticed that the men were riddled with needles and realized that they had been hit with tranquilizer darts, not bullets.
He acted quickly, grabbing a knife and pressing it against Alicia’s neck.
Caden aimed his gun at Joshua.
The icy wind screamed, but Caden’s stern gaze was even more intimidating than the dark barrel of his gun. Alicia, now a human shield, stood in front of Joshua. The sharp knife rested against her neck, where the slightest movement could prove fatal.
But when she looked at Caden, who had appeared out of nowhere, her previously empty and numb expression changed to a slight smile. Fear and despair vanished instantly.
They were replaced by a deep sense of relief.
Caden continued to advance, each step deliberate, his intense eyes fixed on Joshua. “If this knife hurts her in any way, I’ll finish you.” Joshua was not afraid.
Not knowing how Caden had found them and not having time to think, he shouted, his eyes red with rage, “Caden, take another step and I’ll slit her throat!” He pressed the knife lightly as he spoke.
A thin line of blood appeared on Alicia’s pale neck. Caden’s eyes darkened and he stopped moving. Alicia noticed that Joshua’s hands were shaking.
They needed to understand each other’s intentions. Caden flexed his thumb and pulled the trigger. Just before the shot rang out, Alicia jerked her head back and struck Joshua hard with her skull.
At the same time, a tranquilizer dart struck Joshua’s hand as it gripped the knife.
The knife clattered to the floor. Alicia quickly shoved it away and sprinted toward Caden.
Caden stepped forward, opened his arms, and wrapped her in an embrace.
At that moment, his heart settled, cold and firm as ever. He fired a few more tranquilizer darts at Joshua, realizing they were almost used up.
Still, the darts had done enough to partially paralyze Joshua, leaving him unable to move.
Alicia leaned weakly against Caden, clutching his clothes as if clinging to life itself.
“Monica…” she murmured, her voice weak and shaking with fear. “Save Monica. “
Caden lifted her with one arm, wrapped her in his cloak, and made his way to a nearby room.
Monica’s clothes were torn, but she was unharmed.
He took a piece of cloth to cover her and carried her away.
away.
By then, Cliff had arrived with reinforcements and took charge of deciding Joshua’s fate.
Caden put Monica in the car and then turned to check on Alicia.
Alicia was still shaking.
Totally exhausted and frightened, her body continued to react to the residual fear.
Caden, who had never seen her so vulnerable, comforted her with unusual tenderness, though comforting others was new to him.
Alicia rested against his arm.
She whimpered softly, and he could just make out his name.
Though barely audible, it resonated deeply with Caden.
She desperately needed him.
She would only show her true longing when she was completely out of her mind.
Caden felt the urge to kiss her, but just then, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Joshua manage to get into the car that Caden had slammed into the door.
Through the car window, Caden saw Joshua’s wicked smile.
Joshua seemed determined to take her down with him.
With Monica in the car, Caden had to distract Joshua.
He promptly carried Alicia to an open space. A car could never be as nimble as a person’s legs. But Joshua, driven by madness, charged straight at them. Caden, unfamiliar with the terrain, ran towards an open area but accidentally stepped into a concealed pit beneath the snow. His movements were immediately hindered.
Joshua attempted another charge, but the tranquilizers had disoriented him, making his driving erratic and aimless. His car slammed into a mountain of debris, which fell, heading straight for Caden.
Caden quickly moved aside, but the snow beneath him collapsed. Clutching Alicia tightly, they tumbled down the hillside together.
Joshua observed them tumble down the slope, believing that if the fall didn’t kill them, the freezing snow would bury them. He laughed wildly, his eyes red and crazed, but his glee was short-lived as Cliff arrived on the scene.
Cliff quickly subdued Joshua and handed him over to the authorities. Then, Cliff began searching for Caden. Despite a thorough search, he found no trace of them.
He examined the ground for signs of a struggle and reached the edge of the mountaintop. The height was daunting, and below lay nothing but darkness. Realizing something serious had occurred, Cliff immediately ordered an extensive search and rescue operation.
Caden, holding Alicia tightly, rolled down the slope. His sole focus was on her safety, neglecting his own. His head struck a rock, knocking him unconscious.
They finally came to a stop. Alicia opened her eyes and dimly saw the distant lights of a house. Spotting a beacon of hope, she gripped the man next to her, struggling for air as she called out, “Caden… Caden…”
Caden remained unresponsive. Alicia tried to remain composed. She took deep breaths, checked his pulse, and assessed his injuries. She noticed blood on the back of his head. Quickly, she removed part of her clothing to bandage his wound, attempting to staunch the bleeding. Her energy was fading fast.
Moreover, the environment was freezing and pitch-black. Uncertain if she could endure until Caden regained consciousness, she called his name once more. Unsure of the extent of his injuries, panic began to set in.
Fear clenched her heart, and tears filled her eyes. “Caden…” she cried weakly. “Please… Please wake up.” She carefully examined his face, ensuring he could breathe. She cleared any mud from around his mouth and nose.
Then, she touched his eyes. Under his eyelids, his eyeballs moved slightly. Though it was subtle and brief, it offered a glimmer of hope regarding his condition.
She knew she had to act swiftly to save him. In such severe conditions, even a healthy person wouldn’t survive long.
Suddenly filled with a burst of adrenaline, she managed to stand. With great effort, she lifted Caden onto her back and began moving toward the light.
Exhausted, with Caden’s weight proving too much, Alicia trembled as she tried to stand. She hadn’t even taken a step before she stumbled and fell harshly to the ground.
She lacked the strength to scream. All she could do was open her mouth in a silent cry.
Determined, she pulled Caden to his feet once more, pressing forward step by step.
She lost count of how many times she fell, how cold it was, or how much pain she felt. Little by little, the cold seeped into her bones, leaving them numb. Her eyelids grew so heavy that she struggled to keep them open. With the last of her strength, she collapsed onto her knees.
As she fell, she caught a clearer view of Caden’s face. A wave of emotion overwhelmed her, and tears flowed freely down her cheeks. “Caden… Please don’t die,” she whispered silently.
She slipped into a turbulent dream.
In her dream, she felt groggy and sore all over, confined in a small room. Caden was there, sitting in front of her, unscathed.
“You’re awake?” he inquired. “This is hell.”
Alicia was taken aback. She stared at him incredulously. “We’re dead?”
“Yeah,” Caden answered casually, his demeanor more like that of a handsome yet merciless ruler of the underworld than a mere ghost.
Alicia wasn’t afraid of death. After all, they were already deceased. There was no returning from that. She just hadn’t anticipated that hell would be so unlike her expectations.
Her thoughts were utterly chaotic, and she continued to stare at Caden as if spellbound.
“When do we get reincarnated?” she asked.
