Even so, being alone with him now in her space made her nervous. She still didn’t really know him.

When Gavin’s gaze found her, Britney quickly looked away and grabbed the remote from the coffee table. “Do you want to watch TV?”

Gavin studied her slightly strained expression. “Are you uncomfortable being around me?”

“What?” Britney turned to face him.

Gavin’s voice cut through the silence. “Britney, we’ve known each other for months now. I’ve been pursuing you all this time-doesn’t that count for anything?”

Britney opened her mouth, then closed it without saying a word.

When she first met Gavin, her heart had been dead inside her chest. Even now, she felt the same.

His efforts barely touched her-his forceful way of pushing into her life simply left her no time to dwell on her pain.

Seeing her silence, Gavin pressed on. “No rush. We’ll take it slow.”

The words seemed meant as much for himself as for her. bar to Aug

Britney looked up at him. “Gavin, are you really sure about this? About me?”

He could have won over any other woman in these three months with his looks and wealth. But she betrayed by love and friendship hi?? open her heart again.

Gavin met her gaze steadily, his dark eyes filled with quiet determination. “It’s you. Only you.”

Just as Britney was about to respond, someone knocked on the door.

She assumed it was Gavin’s assistant returning with their food order. Without thinking, she pulled the door open. The moment she saw the man standing there, she froze. Her expression instantly turned cold.

She moved to slam the door shut, but his hand shot out to stop her.

“Britney! Don’t close the door!” Soren Brown pleaded.

“Let go!” she snapped.

He didn’t release his grip, softening his tone instead. “Britney, it’s been three months. Aren’t you over this yet?”

“Get lost.” Britney tried to slam the door shut, but she was no match for Soren’s strength. Her jaw clenched tightly with frustration

Soren pressed on, “Britney, 1 told you before. That night was an accident. I thought Molly was you. How else could I have touched her

Britney’s face darkened like a storm cloud. “That’s between you and Molly Smith. It has nothing to do with me. Get lost!”

Soren wasn’t budging. “Britney, we had years together. You’re going to throw it all away over one little mistake? If you hadn’t kept holding out on me would I have fallen for Molly’s trap?”

His shameless words made Britney’s blood boil. “Go!” Britney kicked him hard in the shin.

Soren winced, his brow furrowing from the pain. But instead of getting angry, he softened his voice. “Come on, Britney. You have hit me and yelled at me. Can you forgive me now?”

Britney almost laughed at his sheer audacity. ‘Forgive him?’ she thought. ‘He sleeps with my best friend and has the nerve to ask for forgiveness

Just as Britney stood there, not knowing how to deal with this shameless man, a firm hand settled on her shoulder.

Britney turned around to find Gavin standing behind her, tall and solid.

He towered over her by a full head. Standing there beside her, she suddenly felt safe. Yes, Gavin’s height did make her feel secure.

“Who are you?” Soren stared in shock. He hadn’t expected to find a man in Britney’s room.

Britney had always been conservative. They’d been together two years, and she’d never brought Soren home.

It wasn’t until her parents died in that accident, and he helped her handle the funeral arrangements, that he finally got inside her house. Even then, she wouldn’t let him stay overnight.

He’d only been gone three months, and now Britney had brought a man home.

When Britney caught him with Molly, she was furious. That’s why he’d left for three months-to let her cool off.

But then he started hearing rumors that Britney had found herself a sugar daddy. That was what brought him rushing back.

At the hotel, Soren had seen Britney enter that Rolls-Royce through the staff entrance. He couldn’t see Gavin’s face then, but now, studying Gavin quickly, he was certain. This had to be the man everyone talked about-Britney’s wealthy benefactor.

Gavin’s refined elegance made Soren feel utterly ashamed of himself.

Soren thought bitterly, ‘But Britney and I are cut from the same cloth. There’s no way she could actually be with someone like Gavin. She belongs with me.’

“Get lost.” Gavin didn’t bother answering Soren’s question.

Seeing Soren’s darkening expression, Gavin pulled Britney closer into his arms. “She’s mine.”

Britney glanced up at Gavin in surprise but didn’t deny it. Right now, she just wanted Soren gone from her sight.

“Hey, she’s my girlfriend!” Soren protested.

“Go to hell,” Britney shot back. “The moment you betrayed me, we became nothing to each other.”

“I don’t accept that!” Soren’s face twisted with frustration.

“Looks like you’re choosing the hard way.” Gavin’s expression turned cold as he pulled out his phone. “I don’t accept it! Britney, I refuse to break up!”

Seeing Gavin’s movement, Soren knew he was about to call for backup. Smart enough to read the room, he started backing away, chemin D retreated.

Britney simply slammed the door shut, cutting off his voice completely.

“

The door slammed shut. Britney’s chest rose and fell rapidly, anger still coursing through her, ‘That bastard actually had the nerve to show up h thought. ‘What a shameless piece of shit.

“Your ex?” Gavin asked, one hand casually tucked in his pocket as he looked down at her.

Britney nodded. “Yeah.”

Gavin’s gaze swept around the room. “Staying here isn’t smart anymore.”

“What do you mean?” Britney couldn’t quite follow his sudden shift in topic.

“He’s already stalking you at your front door,” Gavin said. “If it happened once, it’ll happen again. Your building’s security is pretty much nonexistent

Britney stayed quiet.

Gavin was right. Today, Soren had backed off because Gavin there, but he’d probably be back tomorrow.

And honestly, Britney’s complex didn’t even have absolute security-just an old guard with two teeth left who could barely open and close the gate, let alone intimidate anyone.

Gavin’s hand settled gently on her head, giving it a soft pat.

Britney snapped back to reality and looked up at him.

“Go pack your things.” Gavin nodded toward the bedroom.

“Pack what things?” Britney looked confused.

“Britney, it’s not safe here. You can’t stay. I won’t feel right leaving you here alone,” Gavin said.

Britney pressed her lips together. “If I can’t stay here, where am I supposed to go?”

“I have an apartment in the complex across from your hotel. You can stay there for now,” Gavin said.

Britney’s eyes widened in surprise. The complex across from the hotel was one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in the area. Nothing there sold for less than three million dollars.

But thinking about Gavin’s island estate and his vast wealth, she figured it made sense.

When Britney still didn’t move, Gavin raised an

Want me to pack for you?”

Britney quickly waved her hands. “No, no. Gavin, I’m not moving. I’ll stay right here. It’s fine. Soren can’t really do anything to me.”

If Soren bothered her again, she would just lock the door.

Gavin stayed quiet for several seconds before saying, “Then prepare a guest room.”

“What for?” Britney asked.

“Since you won’t leave, I’ll stay here instead.” He couldn’t feel at ease with her living alone. This neighborhood wasn’t safe.

Britney fell silent.

When Britney still didn’t move, Gavin headed toward the bedroom.
