Britney looked confused. “Then why would you help me?”
She had offered herself to him, but he pushed her away. She had nothing-nothing that would be worth his interest.
Gavin was taken aback. After a long pause, he finally said, “It’s a happy day. I don’t want anything to happen. to you in my home.”
Britney was stunned for a moment. Only now did she realize just how out of line her actions had been. Trying to end her life in the Yates Manor was way over the line.
In the heat of the moment, Britney had cast everything else from her mind. She looked at Gavin with. It “I’m sorry.”
Gavin shook his head. “Ms. Watson, I keep my word. As long as you stay alive, I’ll help you get your revenge.”
Britney gave a bitter smile. “Gavin, thank you, but that won’t be necessary.”
‘He and I are basically strangers. Why would Gavin go out of his way to help me?’ Britney thought. ‘I should deal with my own problems.’
Even though Britney didn’t have the power to make those two scumbags pay right now, the future was long, and one day, she’d make them pay for what they’d done.
Gavin was taken aback. Just a moment ago, Britney looked like she was counting on him for revenge. ‘Why the sudden change of heart?’ he wondered.
“Ms. Watson, are you still thinking about ending your life?” Gavin asked, his brow furrowing.
Britney shook her head. “Gavin, thank you for tonight. You made me realize one thing. Before I make those who hurt me pay the price, I have to stay alive-and live well.”
Gavin finally breathed a sigh of relief. Seeing that she was calmer now, he told her to get some rest and then turned to leave, heading back to the garden to continue setting off fireworks.
Britney, on the other hand, took out a sticky note from the drawer, scribbled a line on it, and quietly slipped away.
Cameron took a bunch of photos and sent them to Bradley. Bradley sent her a ton of pictures, too.
Bradley: [Cam, my only regret this year is not having you here with me.]
Cameron looked up at the fireworks lighting up the sky and at her family by her side, feeling truly content. She replied: [Brad, we’ll finally see each other tomorrow.]
Bradley: [Yeah, wait for me.]
Cameron didn’t reply,
She set off fireworks with her family until after ten, then went back to the living room to chat and watch TV together. The whole family was having a great time together.
Jacqueline glanced upstairs. “Gavin, is Ms. Watson resting?”
Gavin nodded. “She should be asleep by now.”
Gavin had wanted to invite Britney to join them, but since she wasn’t feeling up to it, he figured it was best to let her rest.
The Yates family stayed up late together, waiting for the clock to hit midnight. When the clock finally struck twelve, the courtyard exploded with firecrackers.
Fireworks were going off everywhere, lighting up the night. It was officially the new year now.
At midnight, Cameron got a call from Bradley.
With fireworks bursting across the sky, Bradley’s gentle voice came through the phone. “Cam, Merry
Christmas!”
Cameron gazed at the night sky, glowing red from the fireworks. “Brad, Merry Christmas!”
At the Saunders Manor, the whole Saunders family had just finished watching classic Christmas movies together as well.
Everyone was heading back to their rooms one after another. However, instead of turning in, Bradley pulled out his car keys and headed downstairs.
Bradley ran into Eddie, who was on his way back to his room. “Brad, are you going out?” he asked.
Bradley nodded. “Yeah, I’m heading back to Viremont.”
Eddie’s eye twitched. “Now? Do you really have to leave in such a hurry, Brad?”
Bradley replied, “Yeah, it’s urgent.” With that, he turned and walked away.
Eddie watched as Bradley’s shadow disappeared and let out a sigh. ‘If only I could be as decisive as Brad when it comes to love,’ Eddie thought to himself.
It was two in the morning. While everyone else was fast asleep, Bradley had just exited the Viremont highway. He headed straight for the Yates Manor.
Bradley couldn’t help but imagine what Cameron’s reaction would be when he suddenly showed up in front of her.
‘She’ll definitely be happy,’ he mouth. thought. Bradley couldn’t help but let a small smile tug at the corners of his
Lost in his thoughts, Bradley didn’t notice the truck turning the corner until the last second. He jerked the steering wheel hard. However, it was already too late.
The car was violently struck by the truck, flipping several times before crashing into a tree by the roadside, finally coming to a halt.
Fortunately, Bradley’s Mercedes was a top-of-the-line model. The airbags immediately deployed, protecting his body from injury, but his head slammed hard against the steering wheel.
Blood began to flow from the corner of his forehead, obscuring his handsome face. Bradley slowly lost consciousness.
The truck driver had been lying in wait here just after midnight.
He thought he’d have to wait until tomorrow for his target to show up, but the money his employer offered was just too good to risk missing out, so he decided to stake out the place overnight.
To his surprise, his patience actually paid off.”
When Bradley’s car finally showed up, even he was honestly a bit shocked. But he didn’t hesitate-he floored it and crashed right into him.
Watching the Mercedes get smashed up, he didn’t hesitate for a second. He yanked the wheel and sped off, fleeing the scene.
It was two in the morning on festival day, and the streets were practically deserted.
It wasn’t until an hour later that someone driving by spotted the wrecked Mercedes and quickly called the police and an ambulance.
The next day, at seven thirty in the morning, Gavin went to knock on Britney’s door.
He knocked for quite a while, but there was no answer. After a moment’s hesitation, he turned the doorknob and entered. As expected, Britney was nowhere to be found.
Gavin spotted a note she’d left behind, the handwriting neat and graceful. [Gavin, thank you. Until we meet again.]
Gavin held the note, pressing his lips together. ‘When did she leave?’ he wondered.
Without a word, he slipped the note into his coat pocket. He headed downstairs, where Jacqueline asked about Britney. “Has Ms. Watson gotten up yet?”
Gavin said calmly, “She’s gone.”
“Gone?” Jacqueline looked a bit surprised. Seeing that Gavin looked a little down, Jacqueline didn’t ask anything more.
The whole family sat down together and shared their first breakfast of the new year.
After breakfast, Amelia grabbed Cameron’s arm. “Cam, come hang out with us. Bradley’s not even here right now.”
Cameron shook her head. “No way, I’m not going to be the third wheel for you and Lance. Brad will be back any minute now.”
Viremont and Steerfall were only about a two-hour drive apart.
Lance waved her off. “Alright then, Cam, Amy and I are heading out for our date.”
Cameron waved back. “Have fun.”
Knowing that Cameron was waiting for Bradley to come back, Levi and Jacqueline decided to go check out some nearby attractions.
Gavin headed out on his own for a walk.
Cameron plopped down on the living room couch and sent Bradley a message: [Brad, have you had breakfast yet?]
Right then, Eddie’s call popped up on her phone.
Cameron was a bit surprised, but she picked up. “Hey, Eddie.”
“Cameron,” Eddie’s voice was weary and low as he said. “Where are you right now?”
Cameron could hear something was off in Eddie’s tone, so she asked, “Eddie, is something wrong?”
Eddie said, “Cameron, this is really sudden, but I have to tell you. Brad drove to Viremont just after midnight last night, but he got into a car accident right after getting off the highway.”
“A car accident?” Cameron shot up from the couch and bolted for the door. “Where are you guys now? Is Brad badly hurt?”
Eddie replied, “We’re at Crownhill Hospital. Don’t worry. Brad’s out of danger now. But he suffered a head injury, so he’s still unconscious.”
Cameron’s brow furrowed. “I’m on my way.”
Half an hour later, Cameron saw Bradley.
