Bradley watched her go, a smile still on his face. Only when she disappeared from view did he walk back to his car.
But he didn’t drive off right away. Instead, he waited until he saw the light in Cameron’s room go on, then out again, before finally pulling away.
Early the next morning, Bradley showed up at Yates Manor’s front gate, while the Yates family was having breakfast. Jacqueline greeted him warmly, “Brad, good morning! Have you had breakfast yet? Come join us.”
Bradley found a seat and said, “Thanks, Mrs. Yates.”
Jacqueline quickly called for someone to bring another plate and flatware.
Gavin shot Bradley a look and mocked, “You show up first thing in the morning just to freeload off us? You do realize you’re not officially part of our family yet, right?”
“Gavin, what’re you talking about?” Jacqueline gave him a warning glare.
Bradley, unfazed, just grinned, “Gavin, Mr. and Mrs. Yates, I went home yesterday and my parents have already allowed me to join your family. I came over early this morning just to share the good news with you all.”
Lance and Amelia were off somewhere having fun alone, so they weren’t there.
Levi’s face lit up with a smile. “That’s good news.”
He thought to himself, ‘Bradley really is an outstanding guy. As long as he’s willing to join our family, I have no problem with it either.’
Jacqueline smiled and said, “I didn’t expect your parents to be so open-minded.”
Gavin said, “They’ve got so many sons over there that it doesn’t matter to them. Perhaps they’re just glad to see him marry into someone else’s family.”
Jacqueline shot him a look. “Do you always have to pick a quarrel this early in the morning?”
Cameron looked helpless, while Bradley just smiled and said, “It’s fine, Mrs. Yates. I totally get where Gavin’s coming from.”
Gavin was at a loss for words and almost wanted to roll his eyes. But since Cameron was there, he kept his mouth shut and didn’t try provoking Bradley again.
After breakfast, Bradley settled onto the living room couch, waiting for Cameron to get dressed in her room.
Gavin, sitting across from Bradley, asked in an unfriendly manner. “Hey, you. You’ve delivered your good news. Why are you still here?”
“Gavin!” Jacqueline stepped in, giving him a light smack. “Why’re you so rude?”
Jacqueline understood how Gavin felt. But Cam was already an adult, who’d date and get married anyway. As her eldest brother, Gavin’d gone too far acting like this toward her boyfriend.
Bradley waved his hand. “Mrs. Yates, it’s no big deal. I know Gavin’s just joking with me. It’s Saturday, and I’ve got plans with Cam. We’ll go out together in a bit.”
Levi, still reading financial news on his iPad, looked up. “Weekends are meant for fun. Remember to come back for dinner tonight.”
Bradley’s smile widened. “Of course, Mr. Yates.”
Jacqueline smiled warmly, “Brad, since you’re living alone in Viremont and you gotta drive Cam to and from work every day, why not just come over for breakfast and dinner? It’ll save you the trouble of cooking by yourself.”
Bradley’s smile widened even more. “That’d be great. Thanks, Mrs. Yates.”
Hearing what they said, Gavin was speechless.
‘He’s really making himself at home already? But he’s just her boyfriend. Are they serious?’ Gavin wondered unhappily.
Gavin finally muttered under his breath, “Someone’s really so thick-skinned that he actually took some polite remarks seriously.”
Jacqueline and Levi looked at him with a scowl.
Bradley also heard every word, but just acted like he didn’t.
Honestly, Bradley didn’t care what Gavin thought of him. As long as Levi, Jacqueline, and Cameron accepted him, that was all that mattered.
Once Gavin also started dating someone, he probably wouldn’t have time to meddle in their affairs.
Busy with her makeup and trying on a few different outfits, it took Cameron a while to come downstairs.
As she stood on the stairs, it was like the whole world lit up because of her appearance.
The black dress on her showed off her pretty, slender shoulders and her sexy collarbones. She twisted her st bun and pinned it at the back of her head, revealing her graceful neck.
Her beautiful face, with a hint of masculinity, was enhanced by delicate, flawless makeup.
Cameron descended the stairs gracefully in her flats, one hand lightly resting on the railing. air into a
Almost in unison, both Gavin and Bradley stood up from the couch.
“You look absolutely gorgeous today, Cam,” Jacqueline said, her face beaming with pleasure.
Levi looked every bit a proud father. “She’s my darling daughter, how could she not be beautiful?”
Cameron smiled, a little shy. “Just freshened up a bit, that’s all.”
After a moment of stunned silence, Gavin rushed over to Cameron, beating Bradley to the punch. “Cam, I’m free today.
How about I take you out instead?”
Cameron glanced at Bradley, then said. “Gavin, I’ve already made plans with Brad.”
Gavin quickly shifted to block Bradley’s way. “Oh, he just got something urgent to handle in his family, so he can’t make it.”
Knowing he was lying, Bradley didn’t know what to say.
Levi couldn’t stand it anymore. “Gavin, stop messing around. If you’re really that bored, I’ll have your mom arrange ten blind dates for you, and you gotta meet every single one of them today.”
Gavin was stunned, while Bradley walked around him and came up to Cameron.
Bradley’s eyes were practically shining with excitement. “Cam, you’re so beautiful.”
She looked cool in a suit, but in a dress, she was even more gorgeous so that he could barely take his eyes off her.
He stretched out his hand as Cameron took it with a smile. “Thanks.”
Jacqueline beamed. “Have fun, Cam, Brad. And don’t forget to come back for dinner tonight.”
“Got it, Mom,” Cameron replied.
“Sure thing, Mrs. Yates,” Bradley added.
“Alright, off you go,” Jacqueline said, waving goodbye to them with a smile.
Cameron and Bradley walked out hand in hand.
When they got to the car, Bradley opened the front passenger door for Cameron like a gentleman, but she just nudged him toward the seat and made him get in instead.
“Brad, let me drive today,” she said with a grin.
She’d even worn flats just for it.
Cameron hopped into the driver’s seat and started the car.
Bradley smiled, his eyes full of laughter behind his glasses. “It’s still early, Cam. We can’t catch a movie yet. Where do you want to go?”
Cameron turned to him, a smile playing on her lips. “Brad, I’m taking you somewhere special.”
Bradley’s curiosity was piqued. “Where’s that?””
Cameron replied, “A place we’ve been before.”
Hearing that, Bradley fell silent, and his smile even froze for a few seconds before he said, “Cam, I’m sorry. I really don’t remember.”
Cameron kept her eyes on the road and comforted softly, “It’s fine, Brad. Really.”
Cameron drove the whole way, and Bradley, meanwhile, couldn’t tear his eyes away from her for even a second.
It wasn’t until Cameron parked the car that Bradley realized they’d arrived. “Already? That was fast.”
Bradley turned to look out the window, and to his surprise, they were at the riverfront.
Although in summer, since it was still morning, it wasn’t too hot yet, and there were plenty of people walking or jogging along the river.
Still, the riverfront in the daytime during summer was definitely not an ideal date spot.
After all, it’d be blazing hot out here by noon-more than a hundred degrees F.
Cameron nodded. “We’re here, Brad. Let’s get out.”
After stepping out of the car, Bradley saw a soft breeze snatched at the hem of Cameron’s dress, as the river glinted in the sunlight behind her, setting off her beauty.
‘And this breathtaking girl belongs to me,’ Bradley thought and smiled even wider.
