Lila rested her head on Cameron’s shoulder. “Cameron, is Bradley really that amazing? I mean, I think Elijah is already as good as it gets.”
Cameron replied, “They’re all really impressive.”
Amelia raised an eyebrow. “See? You totally have a thing for Bradley.”
Cameron shot back, “What did I say that counts as admitting it?”
Amelia replied, “Not denying is basically confessing, you know.”
Cameron was speechless, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. She stood up and headed back to her tent.
Sienna looked worried. “Cam’s not mad, is she?”
Amelia shrugged. “Guess I just called her out on her feelings.”
Lila grinned, “Nope, Cameron just doesn’t want to talk to you anymore.”
Amelia couldn’t help but sigh.
Elijah rejoined his roommates. His roommates were just as nosy, immediately asking how his confession went.
With a calm look, Elijah said, “Nothing came of it.”
Tyler looked puzzled. “Nothing? So what does that mean? Did she say yes or no?”
Elijah replied, “She didn’t say yes, but she didn’t say no either.”
“Is she keeping you on the hook?” Tyler frowned.
Calder rolled his eyes. “Come on, Tyler, don’t be ridiculous. Cam’s not that kind of girl.”
Tyler huffed, “Then why didn’t she just give him an answer?”
Elijah replied, “I didn’t want to put any pressure on her.”
Tyler was stunned for a moment. The three of them stared at Elijah, completely confused.
“If you didn’t want an answer, then why bother confessing at all?” Tyler asked, still baffled.
Elijah didn’t bother explaining. He just said, “It’s getting late. Let’s head back to the tents and get some rest.”
Confessing was never about getting an answer he just wanted Cameron to know how he felt. As for her response, he was in no rush; she could take all the time she needed.
The air out here in the outskirts was crisp, and the night sky was just gorgeous.
Once the clock passed midnight, everyone just knew to head into the tents without saying a word,
Cameron lay in her tent, using her arm as a pillow behind her head, gazing up at the endless fats through the math cistaln
“Does I actually have feelings for Bradley?
She stared at the night sky, seriously pondering the question. Cameron, after a while, still didn’t know the answer.
Her mind flashed back to Monday night at the bar with Bradley,
She let out a wry laugh to herself. ‘Does it even matter whether I like Bradley or not?’ she wondered, ‘Our genders didn’t even match, would almost let Amelia lead her astray.”
Cameron and the others spent two days at the campsite. Lila and Calder were getting along like a house on fire.
Both of them were total brainiacs, and they really admired each other.
As for Cameron and Elijah, nothing had really changed between them.
Both of them remained perfectly at ease, taking everything in stride.
Tyler kept trying to flirt with Amelia, but she was always pretty lukewarm about it.
He got the message loud and clear.
By the afternoon, the whole group was heading back.
Back at Stellanford University, Cameron suddenly remembered the bracelet she’d left in the car’s glove compartment-she’d forgotten to return it to Elijah. She would have to wait until next time.
Time flew by. Before they knew it, it was time for the final exams.
Cameron and her friends had been hitting the books hard all semester, so they weren’t too stressed out.
After all that time spent on research and development, Cameron’s Aurevia Biotech finally got a drug approved and out on the market.
Cameron and Elijah’s dad had signed the contract ages ago. David was taking care of the rest of the details.
He told Cameron everything was going smoothly and she should just focus on her finals.
Cameron received her first quarterly profit share from The Starry series.
The series was selling like crazy, and since the company and Cameron split the profits 70/30, she pocketed a small fortune-4.3 million dollars.
The
Cameron hadn’t seen Bradley in a long time. But they still kept in touch from time to time on WhatsApp.
After Bradley came back from the Saunders family that day, he forced himself not to see Cameron. His original plan to confess his feelings was put on hold.
He didn’t want his family to find out about Cameron and do anything that might hurt her.
Cameron took the initiative to reach out and sent him a message on WhatsApp.
Cameron: [Brad, our final exams end this afternoon. Are you free tonight? Can we meet up?]
Meanwhile, Bradley was in the school library, going over his notes.
Not every school had the same schedule. Their finals wouldn’t start until next week.
After getting Cameron’s message, he went quiet for a while.
Ever since he’d said those harsh words at the Saunders Manor, Bradley had been getting calls from his family every single day.
All they ever did was try to talk him out of it, telling him not to act on impulse or he’d end up regretting it.
It had been almost two months, but they still couldn’t accept the fact that he was into a boy.
But Bradley was calm about it. ‘I like who I like. There’s nothing I can’t face,’ he thought to himself.
After a moment’s thought, Bradley texted back: [Alright, I’ll choose the place and send it to you in a bit.]
Cameron: [Okay.]
After finals were over, Cameron headed back to her dorm.
Lila stretched and said, “Finally done with exams. I’m so exhausted these last few days.”
Amelia shot her a look. “So, you can finally go on a date with your dear Calder, huh?”
“Stop making things up.” Lila’s cheeks turned red. But honestly, she couldn’t be happier.
Seeing Cameron packing up her things, Sienna asked, “Cam, are you heading home?”
*
Sienna wasn’t planning on going home. She was going to keep working at Aurevia Biotech over winter break. The pay was great-she could make enough in just over a month to cover all her expense for next semester.
Cameron answered truthfully, “Not going home, just meeting a friend.”
“Are you meeting Bradley?” Amelia looked over at her.
Cameron just kept quiet.
Amelia saw that Cameron didn’t deny it, and that was all the confirmation she needed.
Amelia leaned in, curiosity all over her face. “So, Cameron, how far have things gone between you and Bradley?”
Cameron said helplessly, “Amelia, you’re really overthinking this.”
Amelia raised an eyebrow. “Am I overthinking it, or are you just too scared to admit it?”
Cameron just stayed silent. She couldn’t be bothered to explain. Amelia never listened anyway.
Cameron slung her backpack over her shoulder and was about to leave.
