Meanwhile, Gavin’s eyes widened.
“Oh yeah? Then tell us what it was?” Lance asked, rubbing his chin. There was a faint smile on his face, but it didn’t reach his eyes.
Gavin stared hard at Xander, but the latter was totally unfazed as he said, “I’m trying to win her over.”
The two brothers were stunned to their cores. It turned out there was really something going on between Cameron and Xander, or so they thought.
They’d been worried Cameron would start dating once college started, but someone had already gotten a head start.
“No way!” Gavin said bossily.
Xander was confused. “Why?”
“Because Cam can’t date anyone,” Gavin explained.
But Xander retorted, “She’s an adult now. Why can’t she date anyone?”
“It’s a family rule,” Gavin said with zero hesitation. “No dating for her until she hits the legal age for marriage. Simple as that.”
Xander stared at him, thinking, ‘What kind of family rule is that? Or maybe Cameron’s brothers just don’t like me?
‘No way, I look way too good today. So, I guess it really is just the family rule.’
Xander raised an eyebrow. “Two years, huh? I’ll just get in line then.”
Both Gavin and Lance were rendered speechless, thinking that Xander wasn’t just bold and shameless, but he was impossible to deal with.
Cameron gave Xander a look. “You don’t need to wait in line
Xander asked, “Why not?”
Just letting you know ahead of time that you’ve got no shot,” she said.
Xander just stood there, completely stunned. After a long moment, he slowly lowered his head to hide the hurt in his eyes and walked away without saying a word.
The two brothers were stunned. They were just about to give Cameron a big thumbs-up for knowing how to shut someone out quickly,
But then, seeing Xander looking all hurt, they suddenly felt sorry for the guy.
But a second later, they reminded themselves that Xander was not the one they should pity here. He was trying to steal their precious sister away.
If anyone should be pitied, it was them, if their sister actually got snatched away.
Gavin and Lance shot Xander’s retreating figure a cold look, though, on second thought, he did seem slightly pitiful.
“Let’s go,” Cameron said flatly. She wasn’t one for dragging things out, and she had been so blunt with Xander because she didn’t want him to waste his time on her.
It was better for her to clarify things so they could move on from this topic forever, for the betterment of both of them.
Gavin and Lance picked up her bags and followed after her. They’d barely made it a few steps before Xander came jogging back, clutching four neatly wrapped gift boxes for the Yates family.
These are for you, your brother and your parents,” Xander said quickly, avoiding Cameron’s gaze. He shoved the boxes into lanca shands, then t around and practically sprinted off.
With that, Xander turned and dashed off.
Gavin frowned. “Why’d you even take it?”
Lance said, “He shoved it into my hand.”
Cameron had no words. She snatched the gift boxes from Lance, planning to return them to Xander.
However, Xander had already vanished from her sight. There were too many people around, and Cameron had no idea where he had run off to.
“It’s for you guys.” Cameron shoved the gift boxes back into Lance’s hands.
Lance had no words.
“Cam, do you know where that guy lives?” Gavin asked.
“Why’d you ask?” Cameron asked in return.
“So we can send his gifts back,” Gavin said.
There was no way they were keeping anything from some lovesick guy trying to flirt his way into their family. Not on their watch.
Cameron nodded. “Alright, I’ll give you his address later.”
Then, Gavin and Lance continued to follow behind Cameron, dragging her bags along.
Lance juggled the four gift boxes in his arms, glanced sideways at Gavin, and muttered, “Dude, he didn’t even get Cam a gift.”
Xander didn’t even call Cameron by her name earlier too.
Gavin paused momentarily, then muttered, “He deserves to be single.”
They had no idea what Xander was planning. The one he should be trying to impress was Cameron, not her family members.
If Cameron accepted him as her boyfriend, none of them in the family would say anything about it.
Gavin and Logan thought that Xander was a total idiot.
After checking in and paying tuition, Cameron’s brothers helped haul her suitcases to her dorm.
Just as they were heading inside, a bright, bubbly girl with a ponytail called out, “Hey, this is the girls’ dorm. The guys’ dorm is over that way.” Then, she pointed to another building nearby.
Lance frowned. “We’re going to the girls’ dorm.”
The girl, Lila Brooks, blinked at him, caught the edge in his tone, and immediately bolted, thinking, ‘Jeez, this guy’s vibe could kill. His glare is too scary.
Cameron didn’t think much of it. Holding her registration slip, she walked calmly toward the entrance, until a staff member stepped in front of her.
“Hey, where are you headed? The boys’ dorm is that way,” the staff said, pointing outside.
Cameron had no words.
Meanwhile, Gavin’s face turned solemn. “You want my sister to go to the boys dorm?”
The staff member was confused. She pushed up her glasses and asked, “Where’s your sister?”
There were a lot of new students checking in, so this little scene made everyone stop and watch out of curiosity. Some people had even started aizsa the three of them.
They couldn’t figure out which one of the trio was the sister.
Cameron took a step forward. “Ma’am, I’m a girl.”
She handed her registration slip to the staff. “Can I go in now?”
The staff was shocked. “You’re a girl?” She couldn’t believe that such a ridiculously handsome kid was actually a girl.
“I am,” Cameron repeated patiently, already knowing that she would be running into this kind of thing more often from now on.
“Oh my goodness, she’s actually a girl? She’s so cool.”
“I can’t believe a girl could look this good.”
“Why does she dress like a guy? And her hair’s so short. Could she perhaps… swing the other way?”
“Oh no, if she really does, it’s such a pity.”
Hearing the girls gossiping, Gavin and Lance shot them a glare, and they quickly returned to their own business.
“Cam, don’t mind their nonsense. Let’s go.” Lance took the registration form from the staff.
Cameron gave a quick nod, not really bothered as the trio headed upstairs.
Her room-201-was on the second floor. She pushed the door open and immediately spotted the ponytail girl from earlier.
“Hello,” As soon as Lila saw someone come in, she greeted them enthusiastically, but when she realized it was Cameron, she froze.
Just a moment ago, Lila was excitedly telling her new roommates about the super good-looking girl she’d spotted at the dorm ? entrance
And in the very next second, that same girl showed up right in front of her.
Lila just stared blankly at Cameron and the two people with her, completely stunned.
Even Sienna James, who was usually quiet and composed, blushed at the sight of the three handsome “guys”. But she still managed to point it out politely. “Um, this is the girls’ dorm.”
“She’s a girl.” A cool, calm voice sounded.
