Filed to story: That Campus Prince Is a Girl
Amelia couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “You pretended to like me because of the engagement?”
Cameron nodded. “Yeah. I could never love any woman.”
Amelia’s world tilted. She thought, ‘Everyone knew Cameron loved me. Now he’s telling me he never did? This can’t be true.
Still dazed, she whispered, “Why?”
Cameron pulled out her ID card from her pocket and handed it to Amelia. “This’ll explain everything.” She had to crush Amelia’s expectations once and for all. Anything less could lead to endless trouble.
Amelia took it, confused. “Why did you give me this?”
Cameron pointed calmly. “Check the gender field.”
Amelia looked down at it. The next second, her head snapped up, eyes wide with shock. “Female? You’re a girl?”
Cameron crossed her arms, meeting Amelia’s stunned gaze with a wry smile. “Yes. I’m a girl”
Receiving that confirmation, Amelia was dumbfounded. The ID card trembled in her grip as she stared at Cameron. Minutes passed before she finally managed to speak, “So you’re… a girl?” Even after seeing the proof, her voice cracked with disbelief.
Amelia thought, ‘My fianc? was a girl all along? Eighteen years of deception? And now I’ve even fallen for her?
Amelia’s mind was a total mess.
Cameron retrieved her ID card and slipped it into her pocket. “Now that we’ve cleared that up, I assume this ends any romantic notions. See you.”
“Wait!” Amelia’s sharp command froze Cameron.
Cameron turned back. “What else?”
Amelia’s expression darkened. “You and your family deceived mine for 18 years. You think I’ll just accept that?”
The initial shock had crystallized into fury. For years, the arranged marriage with Cameron had been a thorn in her side. Amelia had made countless efforts to break the engagement. But in the end, she discovered that the entire foundation was a lie.
And yes, after learning Cameron was a girl, she had truly regretted calling it off. But that didn’t erase the fact that the Wallace family had deceived her for 18 years.
Cameron gazed at her. “Have you ever considered that I was a victim too?”
Amelia froze upon hearing this. She thought, ‘Cameron is one month younger than me. So, did the Wallace family force her to pretend to be a boy from birth for that ridiculous childhood engagement pact? That’s insane.’
The moment that thought hit her, Amelia’s anger shifted into sympathy. She thought, ‘Yes, we’re both victims. Cameron had it even worse. How could blame her for any of this?’
Amelia frowned, “You’re a victim too, Cameron, but your parents-” They had to pay for their deception.
“Hold on,” Cameron interrupted her. “They weren’t my real parents. I was kidnapped. They’re already in custody.”
Amelia’s jaw dropped. She was dumbfounded.
Without another word, Cameron walked away, leaving Amelia reeling from the bombshell revelations.
After learning too much stunning information, Amelia needed time to process it all.
Rounding the corner, Cameron spotted Bradley and the others. They were all waiting for her.
Just as Cameron approached, her phone vibrated. It was William.
William’s enthusiastic voice boomed through the receiver. “Cameron, tonight’s victory banquet details are coming to your-“
“Mr. Drake,” Cameron cut in politely. “I already have prior commitments.”
William paused, clearly surprised. “What? Who?”
Cameron replied honestly, “Xander’s parents insisted on hosting me for dinner as thanks for tutoring him. I already accepted their invitation.”
William responded with mild frustration, “Cameron, you have to come to this banquet. It celebrates your achievement. Without our champion, there’s n point in even holding it.”
Cameron was touched by his fervor. She didn’t want to disappoint him but couldn’t break her promise. “Me Drake, 1 gave my send to lander’s parents first.”
“I’ll have Ms. Murphy handle it,” William said quickly.
Cameron had barely rejoined the group when her phone buzzed again. It was Gwen,
Gwen’s voice was warm. “Cam, Tonight belongs to your well-earned celebration. Let’s reschedule for tomorrow night, okay? Congratulations again You’ won first place. We’re very happy that Xan has such an excellent friend.”
“Thank you for understanding,” Cameron replied. “I’ll come over tomorrow evening.”
Xander practically asked as she hung up, “Cam, you’re not coming to my home tonight?”
Cameron nodded. “William insisted on having a celebration banquet tonight.”
“Oh, I see.” Xander’s face lit up again.
He thought, ‘I thought she didn’t want to come. Good thing Mother intervened. She always knows best.
Elijah raised an eyebrow. “Wait, why was Cameron supposed to come to your home tonight?”
“Your business?” Xander shot back.
Elijah snorted.
Noticing that Bradley and Austin were curious, Cameron explained, “I tutored Xander. He did well this time. As an athlete, he cleared first-tier university thresholds.”
Austin gave a thumbs-up immediately. “Impressive, Xan.”
Xander’s chin lifted triumphantly.
Bradley adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. “Yeah, it makes sense they wanted to thank Cameron.” Dragging someone from academic rock bottom? It was indeed challenging.
Elijah turned to Cameron. “You and Amelia… settled things?”
Cameron nodded. “Just a small misunderstanding. It’s cleared up how.”
Xander raised an eyebrow. “Small misunderstanding? I thought she was regretting dumping you.”
“Don’t spread rumors,” Cameron chided sternly. A girl’s reputation mattered. What started as nothing could easily get twisted into something else.
“Hmm,” Xander mumbled.
Austin’s eyes glinted as he observed Xander’s reaction. Xan, you’re obedient to Cam these days.”
Austin thought, ‘If this were any other time, Xander would have already started arguing with Cameron. But now, he’s so obedient. This sudden docility… Does he have feelings for Cameron?’
With this in mind, Austin narrowed his eyes and thought, ‘No one can take Cam from me. He is all I have in this world. I’ll fight anyone who tries.”
Xander shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “Am I?” He couldn’t risk pushing Cameron further away. She was already pulling back. used to, he would lose her completely.
Xander’s gaze swept over the group. “Don’t you all have places to be? The graduation ceremony is over.”
Elijah’s voice was calm. “I’m attending the banquet.” As the runner-up, his invitation was guaranteed. kept acting like he
Xander rolled his eyes. “Big deal.”
Bradley raised a brow. “What about you? Why aren’t you leaving?”
Xander opened his mouth but found no retort.
Austin smiled, “The banquet is hours away. I thought Cam might want to hang out.”
“Cam doesn’t want to hang with you,” Xander said flatly.
Elijah added, “Cam probably least wants to be with you.”
Xander shot Elijah a glare.
Elijah didn’t even blink.
Cameron sighed, rubbing her temples, “How about we all just go home?” The bickering was giving her a headache.
Austin asked, “Cam, where you headed?”
Elijah said, “Noble Vista?”
Xander added, “I’ve got a place there too.”
Bradley chimed in, “Pretty sure we all do.”
Cameron sat down on the edge of a flowerbed and gave up on arguing. “You guys keep going. I’m just listening.”
“Heh…”
