“Now, make sure you let Theo feed off you daily. It will help. It can’t be helped.” She chuckles.
“But it affects him too,” I tell her, worried about what will happen if he consumes too much.
“Don’t worry about Theo. He is strong enough, and it leaves his system, eventually. I promise, Imogen, there are other ways to control your magic or get rid of it entirely.” She says.
“How do you do it?” I ask, she seems quite sane, but then again, she could just be good at hiding it.
“First of all, I was a pure witch, so it doesn’t take so much from me as I’m living. I have found ways to prolong my life. When it gets a bit much, I usually cleanse myself. For you though, Imogen, you aren’t quite living or dead. You’re in a state of in between that’s why your magic has turned dark, tainted by your father’s DNA running through you. Letting Theo feed off you will help ease it, but eventually it could become too much.” She explains.
“You said she could get rid of it?” Theo asks, his hand rubbing circles on the back of my hand. His eyes are completely black but he looks like he has excellent control over himself.
“Yes, she can, but once it is done, it’s done. There is no turning back. She will never be able to feel her connection to her magic again.”
The thought saddens me a little. I still ask, needing to know what my options are. “How?”
“By becoming a full vampire, you would need to let Theo or Josiah change you completely, even Tobias, though I don’t think you would want to become a Lycan. It is quite painful, I have heard.”
The options don’t look great. The thought of going bat shit crazy isn’t very appealing either.
“We can decide when we have to, Imogen. You don’t need to decide right now.” Theo reassures me. Is it worth the risk, though? I don’t want to be a burden on them or a terrible mother. I also don’t want to lose my magic completely, but it doesn’t look like I’ll have a choice.
I say nothing, instead, just think over my choices and what is best for my son. Then, a thought pops into my head. “What about Thaddeus? Will he turn dark like me?” I ask her.
“I don’t have all the answers, your son is one of a kind. I have never met a Tribrid before. I didn’t even know two mates could get a female pregnant. Your son is truly one of a kind. I expect great things to come of him, or…” she hesitates.
“Or what?” I ask her, concerned by the look on her face.
“Or terrible things, Imogen. There is a chance he could become the ultimate predator. If his magic is dark, there is no telling what he will become capable of.”
Tobias walks in a second later, holding Thaddeus, and I instantly sit up and hold my arms out. Tobias hesitates for a second and looks at Theo. Astral answers his question. “She is fine, Tobias. She won’t harm, her aura is white, no darkness present,” she tells him, and he walks over, placing him in my arms.
Thaddeus looks up at me and tangles his fingers around my hair. How can anything so pure and innocent become a monster? Looking down at him, I can’t picture him all grown. I know one day he will become a man, I just hope we can save him from himself and pray his magic is good.
“He is a cutie,” Astral says, rubbing his little cheek. “Well, I better be off. You know where to find me, if you need me,” she adds before standing up and walking out the door.
“How long was I out?” I ask, looking up at Tobias.
“Only a day, but you will be fine now,” he says, looking toward Theo, who nods his head to verify his words.
That night I suggest that Caroline and Josiah go home so they can have some time to themselves. They have been so busy helping us, I sometimes forget they have their own lives.
Caroline and Josiah bid farewell after dinner, promising to be back bright and early in the morning. One thing I’m most thankful for, is that Caroline has helped get Thaddeus into a more regular sleep routine. He only gets up once or twice during the night now instead of every hour, making night time easier and everyone is getting decent sleep.
Carrying Thaddeus into the kitchen, I make him a bottle. Theo and Tobias keep offering to take him, which is becoming a little annoying. They refuse to leave me alone with him and it is getting on my nerves.
“Here, I can take him, you make the bottle,” Theo says, holding out his arms expectantly.
“I’m fine, Theo. I can make a bottle with one hand,” I tell him, ignoring him and grabbing the baby formula off the counter. Thaddeus keeps pulling my hair while I make his bottle and I have to keep untangling his little fingers. When I’m done, I settle on the couch and flick on the TV, finding something to watch.
Feeding Thaddeus with his bottle, I can hear Tobias and Theo talking in hushed voices before they turn up in the living room. Tobias sits next to me, rubbing Thaddeus’ feet, when he finishes his bottle I stand up to burp him while walking up the stairs to change his bum.
“Did you leave mommy a present?” I ask him, laying him down on our bed. He coos softly while I take him out of his onesie.
