Tobias walks out, sitting on the couch next to me. Annoyed, I get up and he grabs my hand. “Please don’t run off.”

“You still lied.” I say, spinning around and shaking my hand out of his grip, only to run into Theo who is standing silently behind me.

He moves closer, his hands tugging on his shirt I’m wearing. He leans in closer, his lips so close to mine, I lose my train of thoughts for a second.

“You can be mad and still want us,” he says before kissing me, his tongue playing with mine. His hand slides under my shirt, at my back before sliding into my panties and grabbing my ass.

Theo pulls me against him so my body is flush with his. Sparks erupt all over my skin, giving me goosebumps under his touch. My body reacts even though my mind has other ideas. I put my hand on his chest, about to push him away, except he deepens the kiss, making me forget entirely that I’m angry with them. How I hate the mate bond, it overrides everything or maybe I’m just too weak to go against it.

Tobias gets up from the couch, his hands grabbing my hips tightly, so tight I know it will leave bruises, his lips going to my neck as he softly sucks and nips at my skin. His teeth make me shiver against him as they brush my mark. His hands move underneath the shirt and up my stomach to my breasts, my nipples hardening from the feel of his rough hands caressing them.

I moan into Theo’s mouth, my hands wrap around his neck, pulling him closer. Oh, how I love the feeling of both of them touching me, setting off every nerve ending in my body as arousal floods me, taking over all rational thought.

I feel Theo grab my thighs lifting me, so I have no choice but to grab his shoulders to stop from falling backwards and into Tobias. My legs lock securely around his waist and I can feel his erection pressing against my clit, when suddenly, I hear Tobias growl. His growl makes everyone freeze. Theo stops, pulling back slightly, I suck in a breath of much needed air.

I feel Tobias step back and Theo places me on the ground, my feet softly landing on the cold floorboards before listening intently.

I watch as they both look at each other, hearing something only they can hear. After a few seconds I too, can hear the sound of tires on the dirt road coming toward the house at great speed.

“Go get dressed, my parents are here,” Theo says, before pulling me closer and kissing me.

His tongue licks my bottom lip before I feel him suck it into his mouth and bite down slightly. He steps back and motions for the stairs. I make my way back upstairs and into our room.

I wonder why his parents decided to show up, the thought makes me nervous. I can hear Tobias walking into the room as I rummage through the walk-in, trying to find something decent to wear, settling on some leggings and a tank top. Tobias reaches in and pulls a shirt from the hanger and he grabs a pair of jeans, quickly slipping them on before coming over and wrapping his strong arms around me and kissing my head. I pull back and out of his reach.

I quickly walk into the bathroom and wash my face and brush my hair, so I don’t look like I have just awoken, trying to make myself look somewhat functional. After washing up, I slip on my bra, gray leggings along with a black tank top. Tobias is no longer in the room and I can hear soft talking coming from downstairs. Along with Tobias’ angry whispers, which aren’t really whispers with how high his voice booms towards the end.

Walking down the stairs, I’m greeted by Caroline. She is in black suit pants and a blouse, looking very formal, like she just stepped out of an important meeting.

“Imogen, lovely to see you again.” I nod, making my way down the rest of the steps and onto the landing below.

Caroline quickly walks over to me and hugs me, which I think is slightly strange. She has never been this welcoming before. I freeze as her arms wrap around me tightly before placing my hand on her back and hugging her back. When she lets go, she holds me at arm’s length.

“Come, we have much to discuss,” she says, motioning for me to sit on the couch.

When I turn toward the couch, I nearly freeze. Josiah is sitting there, staring off into space like he is deep in thought. I shiver slightly at the intense look on his face before sitting as far away from him as the couch will allow. When he looks toward me, he softly smiles, his lips tugging up slightly. His eyes sparkle under the lighting emitting from the fireplace.

“So, what’s this about?” I ask nervously. I almost prefer the overbearing, intimidating version of Josiah that I’m accustomed to, not this man, who’s looking back at me as if he is exhausted and mentally drained. I notice Theo sitting on the armchair next to the fireplace with a strange look on his face. Theo almost looks like he’s in a trance.

When no one answers, I ask another question just as Tobias walks back into the room with four cups of coffee on a tray. “What’s wrong with Theo?” I ask, staring at him, but he doesn’t even glance in my direction at the mention of his name.

He hasn’t moved at all, he’s just staring oddly at the space in front of him, like he can see something I can’t see. His eyes seeing but not really seeing, it gives off an eerie feeling like he’s looking through whatever it is he is looking at.

Tobias sits the tray down and Caroline instantly reaches for her coffee cup and passes me mine. I accept the coffee and thank them.

“Theo is stuck in his own mind,” Tobias says, worriedly glancing at him.

I remember Theo telling me about how they don’t sleep, yet could go into the depths of their own minds and become stuck. I can’t feel anything but worry through the bond as he stares off vacantly.

“Why did he go like that?” I ask, looking at Caroline.

“We have some news, and it must have shocked him into this state. Don’t worry, dear, Tobias will eventually pull him out of it.” She says. Tobias walks over to him and waves a hand in front of his face, but it is as if he doesn’t see.
