Theo’s lips are so close I forget how to breathe, fear consuming me as I watch his eyes turn red. He leans in closer, his voice holding the anger he feels towards me. “The fog works both ways, Imogen. Now you’re going to learn that the hard way.” I see Tobias go to grab him, but Theo is faster.
I’m suddenly ripped completely against him, his fangs sink into my neck. I scream at the shock, then scream at the pain. I feel like my neck has just been ripped open with a can opener. He bites straight onto the side of my neck and shoulder, tearing through my flesh. I can feel my blood running down my shoulder before Theo is suddenly ripped off me by Tobias. I fall to the floor, landing on my butt, my hand clutching my neck.
Theo shoves Tobias away before noticing what he has done, his eyes go back to their normal, hypnotic green. I pull my hand back and my blood coats my palm. I look towards Theo, he looks panicked and goes to move toward me, arms outstretched, but I stand up and run up the stairs.
“Imogen, wait I…”
“Just let her cool off, you should do the same,” I hear Tobias tell him.
I slam the bedroom door. I can’t believe he just bit me like that, I don’t realize I’m crying until I have to wipe my face. My neck feels like it’s on fire. His bite never hurt before, even when they thought it would. This time Theo wanted to hurt me and that’s exactly what he did.
I walk into the bathroom to clean my face and check the damage he caused. Looking in the mirror, my face is blotchy and tear stained. My sweater is soaked in my blood. Even my blonde hair is stained red, but it doesn’t appear to be bleeding anymore. The bite mark is red and angry looking, the skin raised where his fangs sunk in. I wash my face and my neck before realizing I need a shower to get it out of my hair, which is now sticking to my skin. I strip off before turning the shower on.
I get in before changing the water temperature, the hot stream burns my skin. I suddenly feel guilty. He never would have done it if I didn’t slap him. Hell, he might not have done it if I had just apologized like Tobias asked me to. I know it still didn’t give him the right to do what he did.
I know he’s already wound up from his father. I also know they aren’t human and feel things differently to normal people, at the end of the day. I shouldn’t have done what I did. I just finish washing the conditioner from my hair when Tobias walks in.
He strips his pants off and opens the shower door. Seeing him, I feel a lump form in my throat. He steps closer before opening his arms. I move toward him, letting him hug me. I rest my head on his chest and turn so water isn’t in my face, trying to drown me.
He kisses the top of my head. “You okay?”
“I didn’t mean to piss him off, he just got under my skin,” I murmur. If it were anyone else, they probably wouldn’t have heard me, but he answers so I know he heard what I said.
“I think sometimes you forget we aren’t human; you have no idea how hard it is for him to deny his true nature around you. He shouldn’t have done what he did, but I know he wouldn’t have done it if he had control of his instincts.” I nod against his chest.
“Just remember next time Imogen, there is a reason vampires and werewolves are portrayed as evil in books and movies. We are technically what you would call monsters and run off strong emotion and natural instincts. We feel things differently, everything heightened, anger is the strongest to try and control.” I wrap my arms around his waist, loving the feel of his warm skin. I find it comforting, being in their arms, it feels like home, where I belong but it doesn’t make me feel any less scared of the choices that need to be made.
“How would Theo or you change me?” I ask.
It’s one question that bothers me, exactly how do they become the way they are.
“Werewolves are born, we can make a human into a werewolf though the same as a vampire, well, like most supernatural creatures.”
“So, there are more supernatural beings than vampires and werewolves?” I ask.
“Yes, most myths and legends hold the truth, Imogen.”
“Like what though?” I furrow my eyebrows.
“Fae, witches, mermaids, demons are a few but there are more. We live in the shadows, though. This world is too dangerous for our kind, if people found out, they would want to experiment and find ways to recreate it. Humans are good at one thing and that’s making species extinct and that is why we have rules,” he states.
I look up at him, he is right, humans in a way are bigger monsters than they are. He kisses my nose.
“So how would you change me then?”
“We would give you our blood.” I’m confused, I have already drank Theo’s blood and I’m still human so if that is it, then how come I haven’t changed already?
“I have drank Theo’s blood and I’m still the same,” I voice my thoughts out loud.
“That’s not all there is to it, Imogen.” He looks uncomfortable like he doesn’t want to say what the next part is.
I tilt my head. “Then what happens?”
