“I’m fine. I like being at the company. It’s where I learn the most.”
Calvin could only monitor Lacey without her noticing if he stayed out of her sight.
Leila sighed. She couldn’t fathom why she had let an eight-year-old manage such a massive company. It must be far too much for Calvin to bear.
If Leila regained her memories, she would likely find this thought laughable. The truth was, Calvin and Sophie had volunteered to take on responsibilities.
Since Calvin wouldn’t budge, Leila let it go for now but made sure to remind him to take care of himself. Honestly, even if Calvin did go to the company, there wasn’t much for him to do there.

Leila had built a thriving business over the years and handpicked the best people to run it. All it needed was someone to pop in every now and then and make sure things were running smoothly. Everything else ran like clockwork.
The executives Leila had chosen were competent and dedicated. But that didn’t mean she could just disappear forever. If she stayed away too long and left everything to her kids, even the most loyal employees might start getting ideas. She knew better than to take any chances when it came to human nature.
Leila thought about it for a while. If she couldn’t get her memory back, she might as well ask Landon for help. She wanted Landon to teach her the ropes. She might have lost her memory, but she had built a company once, so she could definitely do it again. It shouldn’t be that hard.
Despite her thoughts, Leila decided to continue watching the movie. She even made Calvin sit next to her.
With her two wonderful kids by her side, Leila felt a sense of contentment wash over her.
After the movie, the kids went their separate ways. Leila wished she could spend more time with them, but they were so busy. A wave of sadness hit her as she realized that one day, they would grow up and leave, and she would be all alone. Maybe having such independent kids wasn’t such a good thing after all..
Feeling a bit down, Leila decided to go find Landon. She had something important to discuss with him, something they had put off from the day before. It was starting to feel like Landon could read her mind because every time she tried to bring it up, he somehow managed to change the subject.
But Leila was determined to talk to him about it today. She didn’t want to put it off any longer.
When Leila arrived at the office, she found Landon massaging his temples. He looked exhausted. Even though he had gone to bed early yesterday, he had been intimate with Leila until almost dawn. He had gotten up around nine this morning, so he had only gotten about four hours of sleep.
Leila hadn’t gotten much sleep either, but she had nothing urgent to do.
Without a word, Leila walked over to Landon and gently started massaging his temples.
Landon visibly relaxed at her touch. He leaned back in his chair, closing his eyes for a moment.
“So, how was your day with the kids?”
Leila smiled.
“It was fun,” she replied.
“Elma wanted to watch a movie, but she fell asleep before it was over. She kept saying she wanted to wait until you were free so we could all play together as a family.”
The word “family” sent a warm feeling through Landon. It was such a beautiful word, a word that seemed almost too good to be true. On impulse, Landon reached out and took Leila’s hand in his. Leila was surprised by his sudden gesture and tried to pull her hand away, but Landon held on tight.
“Did I hurt you?” Leila asked, leaning closer.
Landon shook his head.
Leila found herself gazing at Landon’s impeccable profile and Adam’s apple.
Landon gently pulled her toward him, and she ended up sitting on his lap.
Only then did Leila realize Landon was in the middle of a video conference. The screen was full of serious-looking executives. Leila’s stomach lurched.
“This is not okay,” she murmured, trying to get up. She kept her voice down, afraid to make a scene.
Landon chuckled at her flustered reaction but didn’t let her go. He pulled her even closer until their bodies were pressed together. Leila could hear his heart beating.
Leila’s face burned with embarrassment. She turned away, unable to meet the eyes of the executives on the screen. She wondered what they would think of them. Was Landon out of his mind? She was furious with him.
Landon seemed to sense her anger and stopped teasing her.
“Relax,” he said softly.
“I didn’t turn on the camera or the microphone.” The meeting was almost over anyway. The executives were just listening to reports from their teams. If anything important came up, they would contact him directly.
Leila finally relaxed but was still angry, giving Landon a playful glare.
“Landon Kensington,” she said, using his full name.
“That wasn’t funny.”
Seeing that she was truly upset, Landon tried to soothe her.
“Okay, okay, I’m sorry,” he said, his voice softening.
“I didn’t mean to make you mad. Don’t be angry with me.”
His deep voice, usually so stern, was now soft and soothing. His sudden gentleness was a stark contrast to his usual aloof demeanor, making it difficult for Leila to stay angry.
When Leila continued to ignore him, Landon leaned closer, his lips grazing her earlobe.
Leila’s breath hitched in her throat, her eyes widening as she met Landon’s intense gaze. She felt her resolve crumble.
Leila cleared her throat, gently pushing Landon away.
“Not now, Landon. I came here to talk to you, and shifting the topic won’t solve anything,” she said, her voice firm.
The playful smile vanished from Landon’s face, his eyes hardening. He let out a low hum, releasing Leila from his grasp.
“What if I don’t want to talk?”
Leila sensed Landon’s growing anger and felt a flicker of fear, but she pressed on.
“I know you already know what I want to talk about, and that’s exactly why I need to clear the air. Yes, it’s about Clayton,” she said.
Landon’s expression turned icy at the mention of Clayton’s name. He suddenly grabbed her by the waist, pulling her close.
“What’s this about?” Landon growled, his voice laced with a threat.
“Thinking of going back to him, are you?”
Leila was so furious that she wanted to bite him, but she held herself back. She took a deep breath and continued, “When I woke up, and even now, something inside me tells me that Clayton is my husband. He’s supposed to be important to me. You never told me anything about my past, and I don’t want to hear it from you. I need to figure this out on my own.” Leila’s eyes met his, unwavering.
Landon felt a surge of unease.
“And then?” he asked, his voice tight.
Sensing Landon’s displeasure, Leila couldn’t resist the urge to tease him a little.
“And then…” Leila continued, drawing out the suspense.
“I want to meet Clayton. I need to see him to figure out my feelings.”
As expected, Landon’s hold on Leila tightened.
Landon remained silent, but his eyes hardened. Leila couldn’t tell if his anger was directed at her, at Clayton, or perhaps at himself..
Leila winced slightly, trying to shift in his grasp.
Landon responded by pulling her closer, enveloping her in a tight embrace.
Leila struggled briefly, but it was no use. She glared at him, then gave up and went still.
