From where he stood, he had a good view of her drinking his blood, her throat bobbing as she swallowed.

He felt her body ignite. A burning sense of arousal was growing inside him. He leaned toward her and whispered. “You can suck harder. Keep going.”

Nicole had had her fill and now she felt exhausted, like when one overdoes it. She let go of his arm, her lips stained with his blood and as if she had painted her lips. She was attractive.

Jarrod’s lips curved into a small smile. “Want some more?”

Nicole looked at him in disbelief. “Pervert.” Because of the medication she’d been injected with earlier, her voice sounded husky and unpleasant.

Oddly, Jarrod found her sound appealing. “And you just figured that out?”

He smiled in satisfaction.

He pulled a piece of gauze from his arm and reached over to wipe the blood from her lips with his finger. She slowly brought her fingers to her lips, licking the blood she had wiped away. His gaze remained fixed on her.

Nicole felt uncomfortable. Her body trembled. She felt sick and terrified.

Jarrod, however, remained unperturbed. He gently loosened his tie and unbuttoned his shirt, exposing his upper body.

Overwhelmed, Nicole stammered, “J…. Jarrod, what do you think you’re doing?”.

Her body still hadn’t recovered from the abortion. How could he be so shameless?

Jarrod merely smiled at her and got into bed.

Nicole felt a frigid aura envelop her. She blushed and tried to scurry out of bed, only to have Jarrod grab her around the waist effortlessly. He pulled her to him, hugging her tightly.

He could feel her trembling. “I’m not going to do anything to you today. You should get used to having me around and stop resisting.”

He knew that if he left her alone now, she would develop the attitude to always defy him. It was like training a pet. A stick and a carrot.

“Once you recover, we’ll keep having sex. Don’t think about resisting me then. Behave yourself and you won’t have to suffer. got it?”

It was one of the first times Jarrod had spoken at such length, especially in such an understanding and persuasive tone. He had been very patient.

Their bodies were pressed tightly together and Jarrod’s arms were around her.

Nicole was too exhausted to try to resist. All she could do was let herself be embraced by him.

A while passed and she murmured, “Jarrod…. What could I do to make you let me go?”.

Behind her, Jarrod played with a lock of her hair, sifting it through his fingers. Her question made him pause. “It’s not even possible until the next life.”

Truth be told, if there was a next life, he hoped they weren’t entangled like this. He was tired, too.

“Forget it in this life,” Jarrod added.

The next life… Nicole felt it all coming at her. And the reason was the man behind her. It was too much. She just wanted immediate death so she could be free.

Exhausted, she said hoarsely, “Jarrod, why don’t you just kill me? You hate me so much, wouldn’t you be happier if you just killed me and fed me to the dogs or the wolves or something.”

Jarrod turned her around and put her in front of him. He gently tucked her hair behind her ear to get a better look at her face. “Do I look like some kind of ruthless killer?”

“No…” Nicole began. “You’re not even human. You can’t be… You’re some kind of despicable beast. If you were normal, you wouldn’t sleep with another woman having a fianc?e. Do you have any idea how disgusted you make me?”

Jarrod grabbed his face angrily. “Well you better learn to live with that disgust because I will never let you go.”

“I’m aware…I’m still breathing, aren’t I. How can you possibly let me go when you haven’t destroyed me yet?”

Jarrod’s mouth dropped open, but he didn’t say anything.

“Jarrod, I don’t even want a tombstone after my death. I don’t want you to harass me.”

Jarrod’s face contorted in anger. She was always talking about death, as if she was anticipating his demise.

Suddenly, he pinned her beneath him, his hands planted on either side of her.

He gritted his teeth. “Should I kill you right here, right now?”

Nicole stood puzzled for a few seconds. She could never keep her word. He had just said he wouldn’t do anything to her and now he was pinning her down.

She didn’t bother to hide her displeasure.

Jarrod, who had always been pursued by countless women, had never experienced such humiliation.

After staring at her for a while, he grabbed her face again and kissed her roughly. Nicole lay helpless. Her eyes remained open, filled with pure, infinite disgust and hatred.

After a while, he pulled away and looked at her coldly. “I told you not to provoke me, didn’t I?”

Not being able to take it anymore, she had a nervous breakdown. Tears spilled from her eyes, staining her cheeks.

Her hand was tightly gripped by his, and she couldn’t free herself. It all seemed like a nightmare to her. Her willpower was slowly depleting. She couldn’t stop her body from trembling. She looked at him helplessly. “Please… Kill me…”

Nicole found herself enveloped in Jarrod’s suffocating embrace.

Nicole’s warm tears seeped deep into Jarrod’s being, slowly softening his once cold and merciless heart.

The sadness that enveloped Nicole seemed contagious, as Jarrod felt his anguish intensify.

His slender fingers clung tightly to her, the pressure turning them an almost ghostly white. It took him a while to gather the strength to speak. “I won’t let you die. Don’t even think about it.”

Powerless, Nicole couldn’t reply. Her body succumbed to exhaustion and she fell asleep in the safety of Jarrod’s arms.

Moonlight streamed into the room through the window, shrouding everything in a soft grayish veil.

As Jarrod held Nicole in his arms and listened to the rhythmic cadence of her breathing, he couldn’t help but let his true feelings surface.

“Nicole, I want to be good to you again. I’m pathetic, aren’t I?”

Despite being cheated on by her more than once, Jarrod found himself still in love with her, allowing her to inflict pain on him repeatedly.

He must be the stupidest person on the planet. Lost in thought, Jarrod struggled with his emotions.

Meanwhile, Audrey finished his class at eight-thirty. He headed for the subway station.

On the way, his phone suddenly rang. It was Cornell.

“Is the class over?” he asked her.

“Yes, it’s over,” Audrey replied.

“How about I come pick you up?”. suggested Cornell.

Stunned by his initiative, Audrey looked around, realizing that the subway station was not far away.

“Don’t bother. I’m almost to the station.”

Cornell’s voice, magnetic and familiar, affirmed from the other end of the phone, “What are you talking about? You’re my wife. I’m more than willing to pick you up.”

His tone left Audrey momentarily stunned. She suddenly remembered that she was, once again, Cornelll’s wife.

However, this marital status rested on a mutually agreed upon basis.

Audrey was saddened by the fact that Cornell and she had been married twice because of Kyler.

Despite harboring no ill will toward Kyler, she could not escape the nagging feeling that she was nothing more than a pawn in Cornell’s eyes. Cornell thought of her when he needed her and dismissed her when he did not. Essentially, she felt like no one to him.

When Audrey hesitated to respond, Cornell asked, “Have you forgotten?”

Hearing this, Audrey thought she was reminding him of their arrangement.

In a quick reply, she assured him, “Of course, I remember. I will honor our agreement.”

She was determined to take their agreement seriously and hold up her end of the bargain.

This time she would not be as na?ve as before.

On the other end of the line there is an awkward pause and the atmosphere becomes tense.

Suddenly, a woman’s voice echoed over the phone, “Cornell, Luciana has asked me to bring you dinner…”.

The voice sounded familiar to Audrey and, after a moment of contemplation, he identified it as that of Katie. Katie was the daughter-in-law Luciana wanted.

An unexpected wave of dejection washed over Audrey and his heart sank.

“I’m heading for the subway. The signal is bad here. I have to hang up.”

He said gruffly and ended the call.

In the CEO’s office, Katie saw Cornell’s shadowed expression and apologized, “I’m sorry, Cornell. I didn’t realize you were on a call.”
