It was a cold night in mid-December. The city was shrouded in a freezing cold.

Audrey, undaunted, stood outside the Kingbel Club, bundled up warmly.

People were coming in and out of the club.

Around midnight, Audrey saw Matteo come out, followed by Cornell, dressed in an expensive suit, exuding confidence and arrogance.

With Cornell was a stunning woman, her arm linked with his, intimately close.

The lights of the club cast a revealing glow on them. The woman was almost glued to Cornell, who seemed unfazed by her closeness.

Walking past Audrey, Cornell ignored her as if she were a stranger.

Feeling a pang of pain, Audrey couldn’t linger on the emotions for Nicole’s sake. She walked up to Cornell and said, “Mr. Clement, can we walk for a moment?”

Cornell’s face turned icy.

“No,” he said curtly and kept walking.

Audrey, who had been waiting for hours, couldn’t let him go.

He grabbed her sleeve and pleaded, “Just five minutes, please.”

Cornell frowned and pulled his hand away.

Startled, Audrey stumbled and fell, her legs weak from the cold.

Laughter erupted from above, full of mockery.

“Hey, how can you be so cheeky?” the woman joked. She held Cornell’s arm with a flirtatious smile on her face.

She was one of the escorts from the Kingbel Club. Before she and the other escorts entered the chamber tonight, their manager reminded them that the clients were all Ardlens bigwigs.

As soon as she entered the room, her eyes fell on Cornell, who stood in the center. He first caught her eye because he was the most handsome and had the strongest aura among the men there.

But Cornell was so aloof that none of the women dared to approach him.

Even she thought it was a lost cause.

But, unexpectedly, luck was with her at the last moment. She was about to leave when Cornell suddenly called out to her.

It was a great opportunity for her ??how could she let him steal her away?

The woman smiled sweetly and added, “Hey, you know the unspoken rules, don’t you? I had spent the night with this gentleman. You can’t just show up and snatch him away from me.”

When the woman saw Audrey’s innocent, pure face, she thought she was a college student looking for a sugar daddy.

She snorted coldly. Disdain filled her heart, thinking that those college girls today were no better than her.

A cold light shone in Cornell’s eyes. He resisted the urge to lift Audrey.

He hadn’t used much strength before, so he didn’t know why he had fallen.

He paused for a moment. His dark eyes were filled with unreadable meaning.

When Matteo saw the expression on Cornell’s face, he bent down and helped Audrey up.

Audrey didn’t pretend she couldn’t get up on her own. But her legs were too numb to move. After all, he had been standing in the cold for hours.

Audrey got up with Matteo’s support, and wasted no time.

She looked at Cornell and said anxiously, “I’ve come to ask for your help because of Nicole.”

Nicole was Audrey’s best friend. To Audrey, Nicole’s welfare came before his pride. So he ignored the woman’s taunts and rushed to Cornell for help.

“I’m busy,” Cornell coldly refused, leaving no room for negotiation.

Cornell scoffed inwardly. He had overheard Matteo’s telephone conversation with Audrey that night. Matteo’s insinuations were clear, so he waited in the office until three in the morning.

But what happened? Audrey didn’t show up. And maybe he wouldn’t be here now if Hector hadn’t failed with Jarrod.

This proved that Audrey only thought of him when he had no one else to turn to. He grew frustrated every time he thought about it.

Grumpy, Cornell held the woman in his arms, turned around and prepared to get into the car.

His indifference made Audrey’s heart clench as if a sharp knife were stabbing his chest.

But he couldn’t give up. She couldn’t bear the thought of watching Nicole suffer. The thought of it tormented her day and night.

She chased after Cornell and pleaded in a hoarse voice, “Cornell, please. I need to see Jarrod. Please let me see him just this once.”

Cornell’s eyes narrowed. He said mockingly, “Why are you asking for my help? Who are you to me?”

His words were more of a reminder to her. He told her that day that he would never meddle in her affairs again.

Audrey’s face paled. Of course, he had not forgotten her words.

But he didn’t plan to give up.

“Cornell, I know you’re angry. But it’s not about me. And the situation is urgent. Nicole’s life is in danger. I have no other choice. I’m begging you. Please…”

Cornell let out a slight chuckle.

“So? What does Nicole’s situation have to do with me?”

After saying this, he got into the car and ordered Matteo to drive.

Audrey stood there for a moment. The temperature tonight was frigid, and the cold seemed to soak into his bones. His heart froze all the same.

Being unable to do anything to save Nicole was too much for Audrey.

Audrey slowly crouched down and hugged his knees tightly, not wanting the others to see how sad he was.

Fortunately, it was after one in the morning and no one was outside the Kingbel Club.

In the car, Cornell’s swarthy face still looked sour.

Matteo glanced at Cornell in the rearview mirror. Seeing Cornell’s expression, he hesitated for a moment. Finally, he asked, “Mr. Clement, should we get a car for Ms. Warburton?”

It was dark and cold, and Audrey was alone. It wasn’t safe for her to be out at that time of night.

The woman Cornell brought with him was slightly intoxicated and became somewhat smug. She interjected, “Is your assistant whoring herself out?”

Cornell’s eyes instantly grew cold. He said in a gravelly voice, “Stop the car.”

Without waiting for Cornell to say another word, Matteo understood his intention and got out of the car, opening the door.

“Miss, step out, please.”

The woman refused to get out of the car. It was hard to meet a big shot like Cornell, how could she let him go just like that?

She said sweetly, “What’s wrong with your assistant? It’s…”

As she spoke, she even approached Cornell intentionally.

A trace of anger appeared on Cornell’s handsome face. His eyebrows furrowed sharply. He roared, “Get out!”

His voice sent a shiver down the woman’s spine.

She was so startled that her drunkenness passed a little. She immediately got out of the car.

Of course, her effort was not in vain. Before Matteo returned to the car, he paid her a few thousand dollars.

When Matteo sat back in the driver’s seat, he started the car. But he didn’t drive immediately. Instead, he looked into the back seat.

“Go back to her,” Cornell ordered.

Audrey’s legs were numb from so long bent over. But she had to get up. He knew he had to go back and keep thinking of a solution.

Suddenly, the black Bentley came back and stopped in front of her.

The car window slowly rolled down, revealing Cornell’s handsome but swarthy face.

“Get in,” he ordered coldly.

Audrey didn’t hesitate. He hurried to open the car door to get in.

But because his legs were numb from so long squatting, he accidentally tripped over the door frame.

“Uh…” Audrey grunted softly and pursed his lips. He knelt at Cornell’s feet and grabbed at his pant leg.
