He squatted down, looked at Henley’s blood covered face and said between sobs, “Henley, don’t talk now. Hang in there, the ambulance is on its way.”

Henley gripped Audrey’s hand tightly.

“Audrey, don’t provoke him. With my current state, I can’t protect you.”

Cornell watched Henley and Audrey talk, they looked like a sweet couple.

Meanwhile, he looked like a madman beating Henley.

Frustrated, Cornell glared at Audrey and snarled, “From now on, anything about you has nothing to do with me! I never want to see you again.”

Audrey felt terrible. Cornell’s harsh words and the undisguised hatred in his voice broke her heart to pieces.

He suddenly lifted his head, only to see her cold back recoil.

He didn’t even realize he had walked away.

Sadness gripped her heart.

Cornell held a grudge, and she couldn’t blame him.

Audrey was still deep in thought when she suddenly heard a noise that brought her back to her senses. She looked down and saw Henley spitting up a mouthful of blood.

Blood was still oozing from Henley’s mouth, and it looked terrifying.

Fortunately, the ambulance soon arrived. Henley was immediately rushed to the hospital.

After being treated in the emergency room, his physical condition was stable again.

However, he still needed to recover, so he had to stay in the hospital for a few days. He was still unable to travel, so they had to postpone his trip abroad for treatment of his leg.

Audrey had a long and exciting day. Fortunately, he could now relax.

But after taking only a few steps, she unexpectedly felt dizzy and fell to the ground.

The passing nurse saw Audrey like this and immediately took her to the emergency room.

Soon after, Audrey regained consciousness.

The nurse was still there. When she saw that she was finally awake, she gave her nutritional fluids and said, “Miss, don’t you know you’re pregnant? You can’t do strenuous exercise during pregnancy. Besides, your anemia is severe.”

Audrey was too shocked to say a word.

Pregnant? How could she be?

The nurse noticed the expression on Audrey’s face. She couldn’t help but ask in concern, “Do you need me to inform the father of the child?”

Audrey’s mind was still blank. He shook his head slowly.

“No, thank you.

How was he going to inform Cornell? He had just said he didn’t want to see her again.

Gerda had been looking for Audrey. When she was outside Audrey’s room, she hadn’t expected to hear the nurse. She was stunned for a moment.

Then, she returned to Henley’s room and excitedly reported, “Henley, guess what I just heard?”

Henley’s face was covered with gauze. But there was no denying the anger in his eyes. She looked at Gerda and said expressionlessly, “What’s wrong?”

It wasn’t the first time Henley had treated Gerda this way.

After all, Gerda was not his birth mother.

But why did she obey Henley? Why did she allow him to disrespect her? Simply because Henley was too powerful to take offense.

Gerda smiled brightly as if she didn’t mind his indifference and replied, “I just found out Audrey is pregnant.”

The expression on Henley’s face changed dramatically. Gerda didn’t seem to notice, however. She continued, “Since she’s pregnant, why do you keep pretending to be handicapped to take her away? Why don’t you tell her the truth so she won’t worry about you anymore?” she asked.

“Get out of here!” Henley suddenly roared. His eyes were grim.

Gerda was frightened and embarrassed at the same time. So she got up and walked out dejectedly.

Henley clenched his fists so hard his knuckles paled.

If she had known this would happen again, she would have done everything she had to do instead of feeling sorry for Audrey then. Now she was already pregnant by another man.

She had been waiting for him to fall in love with him, but he hadn’t. And now that she was pregnant, it seemed even more impossible that she would fall in love with him.

Henley was deep in thought. No matter what, he had to find a way to get rid of the baby.

When Audrey was discharged, he wanted to check on Henley. But on his way to his living room, he saw Gerda in the hallway. He was about to call Gerda, but Gerda suddenly ducked down the hall to make a call.

Audrey was so curious that he approached Gerda silently. Then, he faintly heard a few words Gerda said.

“It’s a misdiagnosis. She’s fine. Your leg is fine. Don’t worry…”

Suddenly, Audrey felt his head buzzing ??could it be that Gerda was referring to Henley?

He continued walking toward Henley’s living room with his thoughts in his head.

When she got there, she immediately asked, “Henley, how are you feeling right now?”

Henley’s face was still pale. He looked at Audrey with a weak smile and replied, “I’m fine. Don’t worry, how about you?”

“I’m fine,” Audrey replied and changed the subject.

“Henley, would you like a glass of water?”

Then, he walked over to the bedside table, picked up the kettle and made water.

“Ah!” Suddenly, Audrey’s scream echoed through the room. Then, he fell to the floor.

“Audrey!” Henley exclaimed in shock.

He was scared to death, not knowing what had happened to Audrey.

Audrey lay on the floor motionless. His body seemed rigid. It was as if he had been electrocuted. Henley immediately sat up and picked up the doorbell.

He rang it to call someone from the infirmary.

As soon as Audrey heard it, he quickly got up.

He stared at Henley’s leg and asked, “Henley, why did you lie to me?”.

Henley’s face contorted into a frown and he tried to explain himself, “Audrey, please listen to me…”.

“Was it the doctor’s misdiagnosis?”. replied Audrey.

Henley was taken aback. For a moment, he stared at her. And then, he bowed his head slightly and admitted, “Yes.”

Audrey’s eyes filled with tears. In a trembling voice, he asked, “How could you lie to me?”

Henley dropped the act and smiled weakly.

“Audrey, don’t you see?

I’m in love with you. I want you to stay with me.”

Trembling with anger, Audrey confronted Henley, “By resorting to lying?”

“I’ll use any means to keep you by my side,” Henley replied with an unwavering smile.

“Henley, are you really like this? I thought I knew you. Turns out I was wrong.” Audrey picked up her purse and added, “I’m sorry. I know you saved me, but what I hate most is people who lie to me.

I’ll cover the medical bills, but let’s never meet again.”

Henley fixed his intense gaze on Audrey.

“Audrey, I never meant to hurt you.”

Audrey headed for the door. Without looking back once, he blurted out, “I hate being cheated on.”

And with that, she left.

As Henley watched her leave, her eyes darkened and looked sinisterly at him.

Once the door closed, he muttered, “Audrey, I’ll never let you go.”

By the time Audrey left the hospital, it was dark outside.
