The smell of the elevator left Audrey with a shrinking heart and tear-filled eyes.

Entering Henley’s room, he found the nurse tending to Henley’s bandages.

The sight of the raw wound, wrapped in gauze and tainted with the mingled odors of medicine and blood, turned Audrey’s stomach.

He was trying to compose himself when the nurse asked for help.

“Miss, could you help me with the gauze?”

At that moment, Audrey could no longer contain himself.

She began to retch uncontrollably.

The nurse and Henley looked at her in astonishment.

“I’m sorry,” Audrey hastened to say.

“I may have eaten something that didn’t sit well with me.”

As she spoke, her stomach churned again, forcing her to run to the bathroom and empty its contents.

From the bathroom, the sounds of her vomiting left the nurse speechless.

Henley’s expression turned grim ??was she repulsed by Audrey in some way?

After the ordeal, Audrey, exhausted, leaned on the sink to rinse her hands.

Her reflection in the mirror showed her pallor, a stark contrast to her usual appearance.

Audrey became convinced that her discomfort was probably due to the food she had eaten at lunch, which had not sat well with her stomach.

As he left the bathroom, he noticed that the nurse had finished changing Henley’s dressing and that a fan was now on, circulating air throughout the room.

Henley, concerned, suggested, “Audrey, if you’re not feeling well, go back and rest.”

“I’m fine,” Audrey assured him, shaking his head.

“It was probably something I ate at lunch. I’ll feel better soon.”

Henley’s expression became more concerned as he looked at her pale complexion.

Two days later, a private plane, arranged by Henley’s parents, was ready for them at the airport.

Audrey and Henley rode in a specially equipped rescue vehicle to the airport.

As Audrey looked out the window during the ride, a heavy feeling filled his heart.

He had not seen Cornell since their last meeting. Later, he heard the official statement from the Clement Group on television.

The situation seemed dire, with Cornell caught in the middle of it all.

Audrey felt like an outsider, unable only to watch the news, powerless to help Cornell in his time of need.

She was increasingly aware of the huge gulf that separated her from Cornell, feeling her world slipping away from his.

Henley, lying on his side, watched Audrey intently, with a deep, unreadable gaze.

Since discovering that Audrey was the girl from his past, Henley noticed a change in himself. He had become possessive, almost obsessive.

He disliked seeing Audrey self-absorbed, her mind thinking about Cornell.

The thought bothered him incessantly.

“Audrey,” Henley shouted, breaking his reverie.

Audrey turned to him and asked, “Yes? What is it?”

“Do you ever regret it?” asked Henley, his tone serious.

Audrey, initially perplexed, thought he was referring to their trip together for treatment abroad. She offered him a reassuring smile, her voice carrying a comforting tone, “Of course not, Henley. I’m here for you, and I’ll stay by your side until your leg is completely healed.”

Henley’s gaze intensified as he asked, “What if my disease is incurable? What if I remain incapacitated forever?”.

“No, you won’t,” Audrey reassured Henley.

“Well, I’m just exposing the ‘what ifs’.” Henley hesitated, his refined features half-lit by the dim light, carrying a trace of coldness.

“Will you stay by my side and take care of me forever?”.

Audrey fell silent, surprised.

The future had not been something Audrey had considered in depth.

Henley’s unexpected question left Audrey momentarily speechless, his hesitation clearly unsettling Henley. Abruptly, he reached out, grasping her other hand firmly.

Startled, Audrey’s eyes widened as they met his gaze.

“Remember what you promised.” Henley’s voice was soft but firm.

At that moment, Audrey sensed something strange about Henley.

Then, a sharp slam on the brakes.

The car came to an abrupt stop.

The car door jerked open. There stood Cornell, his gaze piercing as he watched her clasped hands, his expression turned into a sneer.

Audrey felt scorned under his disdainful eyes and shuddered.

“Get out,” Cornell’s voice was icy as he addressed her.

Audrey instinctively tried to pull her hand away, but Henley’s grip was unyielding.

Henley, meeting Cornell’s stern gaze, said evenly, “Mr. Clement, we have a plane to catch.”

Cornell, exuding a chilling aura, ignored Henley and pulled Audrey briskly out of the car.

Henley’s grip did not loosen, causing Audrey pain. She winced.

“It hurts.”

Cornell relaxed his grip, followed by Henley.

Cornell took the opportunity to scoop Audrey into his arms and headed toward his vehicle.

From behind, Henley’s voice was cold but determined.

“Audrey, I’ll wait for you.”

Snapping back to reality, Audrey realized that she and Henley had a flight to catch.

Confused by Cornell’s actions, she demanded with a stern expression, “Cornell, put me down.”

Despite her objections, Cornell forcibly placed her in the back seat, making sure with his hands that she did not move.

“You plan to run away with him?”

Audrey averted his gaze.

“Why would you think that?

A shadow covered Cornell’s eyes.

“So you think you’re free of me now, that you can do as you please?”

His anger was palpable. Audrey had intended to go abroad with Henley without saying a word to him, a move he found unfathomable. How could he go with Henley?

Cornell had instructed Katie to clear things up with Audrey in the elevator. However, Audrey seemed eager to distance herself from him.

She even said there was nothing going on between him and her.

Cornell’s frustration boiled inside him at her words, but he had contained it.

Besides, he had endured in silence while she cared for Henley. But her decision to leave with Henley was more than he could bear. How could he tolerate this?

Grabbing Audrey’s face, Cornell forced her to look at him, her voice heavy with emotion.

“Why would you flirt with me, kiss me, if you’re choosing him, huh? Are you that indecisive?”

Audrey’s eyes widened in disbelief at her accusations.
