Her fantasies of a wealthy matrimonial life were now in ruins.

Even if she settled for an older man, who would willingly take her in this condition?

Gripping Cecilia’s hand tightly, Tessa’s voice broke as she said, “Cecilia, I don’t know how to go on. I’ve been raped like this. How can I live.

Tessa’s despair pleased Cecilia. It was precisely the reaction she had hoped for.

“Tessa, have you crossed someone recently? This wasn’t just an assault. They aimed to break you. They must really have it out for you.”

Cecilia’s words struck a chord in Tessa.

Tessa remembered a muffled phone conversation she had overheard. Mr. Jenkins… The only Mr. Jenkins she knew was Matteo Jenkins!

Alerting the authorities would be futile if Matteo was involved.

Matteo wouldn’t dare act without orders from Cornell.

The phrase “please women.” It clicked. Who else could it be but that bitch Audrey? How dare Audrey want her gone!

Noticing the shift in Tessa’s expression, Cecilia realized her point had hit home. All she needed to do now was fan the flames.

Cecilia advised softly, “Tessa, you have to stay in for the next couple of days.”

“Why?”

“Audrey is also admitted in this hospital. Running into her could be disastrous, especially if she talks to Cornell.”

“What? That bitch is in this hospital?” Tessa seethed, grinding her teeth in fury.

Cecilia nodded, her eyes welling up with tears.

“I might not be able to look out for you much longer. Audrey despises me, and Cornell plans to send me overseas. So you’ll need to be extra cautious and avoid Audrey at all costs.”

Tessa felt a surge of shock, morphing quickly into seething rage.

Cornell treated Cecilia so well, yet he would send Cecilia away overseas for the sake of Audrey. Undoubtedly, Cornell wouldn’t let her off the hook easily since Audrey harbored a grudge against her.

What had that bitch done to deserve such favor? This thought only heightened her animosity.

Tessa blamed Audrey for everything that had befallen her.

Her eyes narrowed, teeth clenched, Tessa hissed, “She’s as good as dead.”

“Tessa, what’s your plan?” Cecilia’s face showed a mix of concern and confusion.

“Don’t play the fool. Cornell’s fond of Audrey now. If you cross her, you’re the one who’ll pay the price.”

Cecilia’s words only fanned the flames of Tessa’s anger.

If not for Audrey, why would her life be in ruins? Why would her body be battered, her dreams of a prosperous marriage shattered?

Audrey was nobody. She was a powerless orphan. Yet, she had won over everyone, Cornell’s grandfather, Cornell’s mother, and Cornell.

Enough was enough. Tessa’s expression hardened.

“Rest easy, Cecilia.

That bitch will pay for this, dearly.”

At that moment, Tessa’s thoughts darkened with murderous intent toward Audrey. If not for Audrey, her family wouldn’t have cast her aside, her wedding wouldn’t have been called off, and she wouldn’t be raped.

Tessa wrongly blamed Audrey for all her suffering. She vowed to have Audrey endure every pain she had suffered and then die.

Catching Tessa’s resolute demeanor, a near-imperceptible smile flickered in Cecilia’s eyes.

Cecilia lowered her gaze to conceal her glee, cautioning, “Tessa, let it go. Bodyguards are everywhere around Audrey. You can’t even get near her.”

Seemingly advising against it, Cecilia then slyly added, “I’ll be flying out the day after tomorrow. Cornell will send me to the airport.”

A glint of malice flashed in Tessa’s eyes. Cecilia’s words resonated with her own thoughts. That would be a perfect opportunity.

Without another word, Cecilia stood, pulling a stack of cash from her bag and setting it next to Tessa’s pillow.

“Take this, it’s not much.

Use it as you will.”

Cecilia displayed her generosity by gifting Tessa a hundred thousand dollars. After all, Tessa needed the money to carry out her schemes, didn’t she?

As Cecilia closed the door behind her, she spared Tessa a final glance.

“Don’t fail me again,” she muttered to herself.

Tessa better not force her to resort to a Plan B. Cecilia intended to keep her hands clean while marrying Cornell.

In the next two days, Cornell stayed in the hospital with Audrey.

He worked in Audrey’s ward so he could personally take care of her.

The VIP ward was no different from a hotel room. It was equipped with everything, so he had no problem handling official matters.

Audrey was not used to it, but she found it difficult to refuse.

After all, Cornell didn’t complain about anything. She feared it would make her seem overly presumptuous.

At noon, Audrey had no appetite, so she didn’t eat much.

The rain was still a steady downpour outside, and her mood had already been affected. In times like this, she would usually feel a little depressed.

She put down her spoon and fork and picked up her phone. She logged in to her social media account and checked some posts. Then she came across a post that said, “Missing the five-dollar pizza in the alley near the international school.”

That pizza was part of Audrey’s student life. Since it was very affordable, Audrey used to go to that pizza store every morning and afternoon to eat. The old lady who ran the place liked Audrey very much, so she was especially kind to Audrey. Every time, she would add free eggs or chicken to Audrey’s pizza.

Audrey was very grateful to that old lady. She even thought that if it weren’t for those eggs and chicken the old lady gave her, she probably wouldn’t have grown to her current height of 5.5 feet.

Perhaps pregnant women were really finicky eaters. Suddenly, she had an intense craving for that pizza. But unfortunately, that old Lady had retired due to her age. She was no longer making and selling that pizza.

Since Audrey graduated from university, she never had that pizza again. She liked this post so much that she gave it a thumbs up.

After browsing for a while, she raised her eyes and looked at Cornell, who was busy working at the side.

The sleeves of his shirt were rolled up, revealing his firm and muscular arms. His elbow rested on the armrest, and he propped his chin against his long and slender fingers while his eyes were fixed on the laptop screen. Such a scene was very eye-catching.

It was said that men radiated a special charm when they were working.

While looking at Cornell right now, Audrey could agree to it.

At this moment, Cornell picked up his phone and browsed through it.

Audrey withdrew her gaze, lowered her head, and continued browsing her phone.

Suddenly, Cornell came over and took her phone. He put it aside and gently touched her head.

“Pregnant women should not use phones so much.”

Then he took his coat from the back of the chair and put it on.

“Get some sleep first. I’ll just go out for a while.”

Audrey didn’t say anything. When Cornell went out, she listened to the spatter of rain on the windowsill and gradually fell asleep.

Suddenly, there was a crash of thunder.

The rumbling sound woke Audrey up.

When she looked out of the window, she found that it was already dark. She didn’t expect that the rain wouldn’t stop. Instead, the Lightning and thunder had become more intense.

She looked in the direction of the desk out of habit. Cornell wasn’t there.

Audrey subconsciously reproached herself. It had only been two days.

Had her decision to stop loving him already been swayed by him?

Cornell might have gone to see Cecilia.

When he said that he would send Cecilia abroad, he probably just lied to coax her to give birth to the baby.

Perhaps in his eyes, she was really that naive and gullible.

Suddenly, the door was pushed open from the outside.
