Filed to story: My Husband Regrets Divorcing Me (Audrey & Cornell)
Why don’t you go home and rest? What are you doing here at the hospital?”
Just as Audrey was about to reply, a figure rushed over, creating a barrier between her and Henley.
“Audrey?” Luis didn’t expect to see Audrey at the hospital at this moment.
“You’re here! Come with me.”
But before he pulled Audrey away, he glanced at Henley and winked at his assistant, hinting something.
Luis was actually worried. He knew Cornell very well. If Cornell found out that Audrey had come to the hospital to visit someone else, he would probably shatter this hospital into pieces out of fury.
Luis didn’t care who Audrey intended to visit. Whether she liked it or not, she must visit Cornell here.
At the thought of this, Luis took Audrey’s hand and pulled her to the elevator regardless of anything.
Henley stepped forward to follow Luis and Audrey. However, Luis’ assistant hurriedly stopped him.
“I’m sorry, sir. You can’t go with them. Please stay here.”
Luis and Audrey were already in the elevator.
Audrey looked at Luis and asked worriedly, “Why did Cornell drink so much?”
“What do you think? Cornell and I have been friends for a long time, but I haven’t seen anyone who can make him so upset Like this except you,” Luis answered.
“Me? Are you saying that he drank too much because of me?”
Audrey couldn’t believe her ears.
“Yes, you. Well, I’m actually confused. You two used to be very close to each other. You had a very good relationship. What happened?
Why did you suddenly become like this?”
This time, Audrey didn’t say anything. She just lowered her head.
Luis sighed softly and said, “If you have something to say, why don’t you speak up? Audrey, Cornell loves you. Give him a chance.”
Audrey was stunned for a moment. She was confused. What did Luis mean?
The elevator stopped, and the doors opened with a ding. Luis and Audrey walked out of the elevator. Then Luis pointed to the innermost room and said, “You two should talk. I’ll go back downstairs first.
I have to do my rounds.”
Audrey walked toward the ward step by step. When she stood outside the door, she suddenly felt nervous and panicky.
After all, they had just agreed to sever ties. It was she who said that they shouldn’t see each other unless it was something regarding their upcoming divorce.
Despite that, she was plagued by concerns when she heard of Cornell’s condition. Now that she knew Cornell was in the hospital, she couldn’t feel at ease unless she made sure that he was okay.
The worry in Audrey’s heart gave her the courage to raise her hand and knock on the door.
The door was slightly ajar. So when her knuckle touched it, it automatically opened.
However, Cecilia didn’t expect that Michel was not alone in the ward.
And the scene in front of her made her eyes widen and her jaw dropped.
Cecilia lay on Cornell’s body, and her clothes were messy. They hugged each other, and their lips almost touched.
Judging from their posture, Audrey thought that if she hadn’t pushed the door open, Cornell and Cecilia would have already had sex.
Suddenly, Audrey’s face drained of color. She was too stunned to move.
She blinked hard, hoping the scene in front of her would change. She wanted to believe that she was only imagining things.
But no matter how many times she blinked, the scene in front of her remained the same. It was clearly telling her what Cornell and Cecilia were doing.
Audrey stood rooted to the spot. It was as if her feet were nailed to the floor. Her hands and feet turned cold.
When she saw the surprised expressions on Cecilia’s and Cornell’s faces when they saw her, she knew she had come at the wrong time.
Cecilia slowly got up from Cornell. She turned to Audrey and said with a flushed face, “Audrey, you’re here.”
It was only then that Audrey came to her senses. She took a step back and said stiffly, “I’m sorry for disturbing you.”
After saying this, she turned around and strode away, almost running.
Audrey entered the elevator numbly. Tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
The pain in her heart was intolerable.
She was overwhelmed by sadness.
It hurt so much that she wanted to shrink into a ball.
Audrey was filled with regret. She shouldn’t have come here. She shouldn’t have listened to Luis.
Didn’t Cornell say she was a cheap woman? But she still came here to check on him. She even had ridiculous expectations because of Luis’ words. What did she get only in the end? She humiliated herself.
Audrey couldn’t help blaming herself. Why was she so stupid? Why couldn’t she learn to be smart?
At this moment, the elevator dinged.
As soon as the doors opened, Audrey was about to run out, but she was stopped by Luis, who was coming toward her.
“Audrey, where are you going? Are you leaving now? Have you seen Cornell? Have you talked? Why so quick?”
Audrey’s face was still pale. She only said softly, “Yes.”
Luis stared at Audrey and couldn’t react for a while. He thought Cornell and Audrey had a fight again, so he held Audrey’s hand and said earnestly, “Audrey, you can’t leave so soon. Cornell is seriously injured. He didn’t tell his family about it because he didn’t want them to worry. So, he is all alone now. You should at least stay for a while to take care of him.”
“He doesn’t need me. Someone is already taking care of him.”
Luis frowned in confusion. He didn’t understand what Audrey meant. He thought she was referring to the nurse.
“But isn’t it much better if you take care of him personally? After all, how can they compare to you?”
Luis’ words were like a knife that pierced Audrey’s heart.
Actually, she was the one who couldn’t compare to Cecilia.
Cecilia didn’t even need to do anything. In Cornell’s heart, she couldn’t hold a candle to Cecilia.
Audrey bit her lower lip to suppress the tears that were about to fall again. Her voice still trembled when she said, “Mr. Stevens, please let go of my hand. I’m not feeling well. I have to go.”
Luis looked at Audrey. And it was only then that he noticed her pale face.
He was about to ask her when his phone suddenly rang.
Audrey took advantage of this opportunity and left without looking back.
As soon as Luis pressed the answer button, a cold and deep voice sounded on the other end of the line.
“Stop Audrey. Don’t let her leave.”
Luis looked at the entrance of the hospital.
“She’s already waiting for the car outside. What happened? Why…”
He suddenly stopped when he heard the busy tone on the other side.
He looked at the screen of his phone with a frown. It turned out that Cornell had already hung up.
Cornell put down his phone and jumped out of bed, ignoring his wounds. He was about to go out to chase after Audrey.
However, Cecilia grabbed his wrist and said worriedly, “Cornell, you are injured. How can you run around? Let me explain to Audrey. Just go back to bed and rest.”
Cornell shook off her hand, glared at her with piercing eyes, and asked coldly, “Did you do it on purpose?”
The moment Audrey pushed the door open, Cecilia fell on him. It was too coincidental. And why were her clothes ruined by accident also at that same time?
Tears streamed down Cecilia’s face at once. She said between sobs, “Cornell, how can you think of me like that? When I came to see you, the doctor had just drawn blood from me. My legs were still weak.
That was why I fell on you.”
She paused and continued, “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have been so worried about you that I couldn’t sleep. Instead of coming to see you, I should have rested first. I’m sorry for causing you trouble.
But I’ll explain everything to Audrey. I can even kneel down and apologize to her.”
After saying this, Cecilia walked to the door as if she was going out.
