Filed to story: My Husband Regrets Divorcing Me (Audrey & Cornell)
Audrey glared at Cecilia and asked coldly, “Are you crazy?”
Cecilia glared back at Audrey with undisguised disgust in her eyes.
She never expected that Audrey could win Cornell’s heart effortlessly while she couldn’t make it.
Cecilia didn’t understand what kind of luck Audrey had. Even Tessa and Sariah failed to get rid of her.
Instead of teaching Audrey a lesson, they ended up being taught a lesson in a hard way.
Cornell had announced he wanted Tessa to disappear from Ardlens. So Tessa’s mother was now preparing to send Tessa abroad.
Because of Audrey, Cecilia lost a perfect pawn. How could she be reconciled?
At the thought of this, Cecilia said through clenched teeth, “Audrey, I used to think that Cornell and I owed you a lot. I didn’t expect you to be so greedy. Cornell was injured, but you didn’t even tell me. How could you hide such a big thing from me?”
Audrey frowned and shook off Cecilia’s hand coldly.
Cecilia was not in the position to blame her for this. After all, Cecilia was just an outsider, and she was still Cornell’s wife.
Moreover, Cornell was the one who decided to keep the news about his injury from the public.
Kyler was still in the hospital, and Luciana was not in good condition. Cornell’s injuries were nothing serious, so he didn’t want to make them worry about him.
If there were people who had the right to blame Audrey, it would only be Luciana and Kyler.
But Cecilia? Cecilia was not in the position to question her like this.
Audrey’s eyes narrowed. She said, “Miss Murray, have you forgotten that I’m Cornell’s wife? Who the hell are you? Who gave you the right to question me?”
Cecilia was speechless for a moment. Then she stomped and retorted, “How dare you think highly of yourself! For your information, you are just Cornell’s plaything. He doesn’t take you seriously at all. You are so pathetic!”
Audrey suddenly burst into laughter.
“Me? A plaything? Then why does Cornell prefer to play with me than with you? Aren’t you more pathetic?”
The determined look on Audrey’s face made Cecilia’s expression change.
She didn’t expect Audrey to know that Cornell had never touched her.
But how did Audrey know? Was it Cornell who told her?
Cecilia’s face darkened for a moment. Then she cursed, “You shameless bitch!”
Audrey was somehow amused. She smiled playfully and said, “Cornell and I are married, so we are free to do whatever we want as a couple. How can I be shameless?”
Cecilia was now fuming.
“You… Audrey, you bitch!”
Cecilia’s face was distorted with anger. She wished she could strangle Audrey to death at this very moment.
Seeing Cecilia’s irritation, Audrey felt a wave of satisfaction wash over her.
There was something enjoyable about seeing Cecilia riled up yet powerless to do anything about it.
Livid, Cecilia gripped her bag’s strap until her knuckles turned white.
But in a blink, her expression changed, and she put on a smile.
“Fine, I’ll come clean. Previously, I only said those things to get under your skin. The truth is, Cornell cherishes me so much. He’s promised to wait until our wedding night before we make love. He wants it to be solemn and special.”
Cecilia was confident that Audrey would not verify her words. After all, nobody could prove she had ever said them.
If Audrey did ask Cornell about it, Cecilia could just say Audrey was trying to frame her.
At this moment, Cecilia slowly moved closer to Audrey and continued, “The only reason Cornell sleeps with you is that he’s a neat freak.
Don’t flatter yourself. You’re just a tool to satisfy his sexual needs.”
Audrey’s face drained of color but she stayed silent.
Cecilia’s eyes then darted to Audrey’s belly, and she added, “By the way, do you know why Cornell doesn’t want kids?”
Audrey froze.
“What do you mean?”
Cecilia had always had a knack for reading people, and Audrey’s reaction told her she had hit the bull’s-eye.
Cecilia speculated that Audrey had not told Cornell she was pregnant because he would, for sure, despise the baby.
Even though she did not know why Cornell was against the idea of having his own children, it was enough to prove he did not love Audrey.
“That’s because Cornell told me he’d only have a child with me. He didn’t want to have a baby with you. He’s just waiting for me to give birth to our children,” Cecilia said with a triumphant smile.
Upon hearing this, Audrey felt as if she had been hit by a ton of bricks.
So Cornell’s refusal to have a child was because he would only become a father with the woman he truly loved.
Even though Audrey had been telling herself she was over Cornell, Cecilia’s words still stung.
“You really should face the reality sooner rather than later. Don’t think having a baby gives you any leverage. The bastard of a scheming bitch like you would only have…”
Before Cecilia could finish her sentence, Audrey’s hand flew up.
Clap! She landed a solid slap across Cecilia’s face.
“If you ever speak ill of me and my child again, I won’t hesitate to shut your mouth for good,” Audrey warned.
She could tolerate Cecilia’s harsh words. But talking trash about her unborn child was a line nobody could cross, especially not Cecilia.
Cecilia was stunned by the slap. She had never been slapped before.
Audrey’s audacity sent her into a rage. How dare this bitch lay a finger on her!
“You bitch, I’ll fucking kill you! I should’ve finished you off at that party!”
Cecilia, unhinged, swung her purse at Audrey’s face.
Audrey dodged, but the purse’s zipper grazed her cheek, causing a stinging pain.
The next second, Audrey seized Cecilia’s wrist and gave her another slap to her face.
Audrey might not be the strongest, but she was more than a match for the pampered and frail Cecilia.
With her eyes narrowed, Audrey declared, “Try setting me up again, and I swear I’ll never let you go.”
As she pondered the events of that fateful day, she could not shake the feeling that Cecilia had something to do with it.
Maybe Cecilia had found out about her pregnancy and plotted with Tessa to get rid of both her and the baby.
That being the case, showing weakness in front of Cecilia would be like waving a red flag in front of a bull. It would just make Cecilia think she was a pushover and embolden Cecilia to strike again.
With tears streaming down her face from the stinging slap, Cecilia feigned innocence.
“What are you even talking about? When have I ever set you up?”
“Take this as a warning,” Audrey said with a sneer.
“Leave me be, and I’ll do the same thing. But cross me again, and I’ll drag you down in flames.”
The malice in Audrey’s eyes sent a shiver down Cecilia’s spine.
Having made her point, Audrey shook her hand fiercely and didn’t want to tangle with Cecilia anymore.
Just as Audrey was about to leave, Cecilia lunged at Audrey, intent on clawing the latter’s face. But before Cecilia could make a move, she noticed Cornell approaching.
Cecilia instantly loosened her grip, and Audrey seized this opportunity to push Cecilia away.
“Ah! No!” Cecilia screamed.
The next moment, the back of her head hit the railing with a thud.
It looked Like Cecilia was hurt pretty badly.
Audrey turned around and found Cornell walking their way.
His gaze was icy and filled with silent judgment.
Cecilia seized the moment to play the victim. Fresh tears poured from her eyes, and she cried, “It hurts, Cornell…”
