Filed to story: My Husband Regrets Divorcing Me (Audrey & Cornell)
Audrey wanted the best for Nicole, so she wished Nicole could stop torturing herself like that.
Waving her hand, Nicole picked up her glass and raised it with a smile.
“I do not wish to dwell in the past. Cheers!”
After dinner, Nicole went to the underground parking lot to get her car while Audrey waited at the entrance of the restaurant.
“Audrey? What a small world!”
Someone suddenly called Audrey from behind. As soon as she turned around, she saw Tessa glaring at her while gritting her teeth.
The news of her being kicked out of the Clement Group had spread in the fashion world. To avoid problems, the remaining investors of her fashion company withdrew their funding. She had a huge loss within a few hours.
As a result, Tessa hated Audrey’s guts now.
To her pleasure, Cecilia was back.
It was no secret that Cecilia was the only woman Cornell had ever loved so deeply. Tessa figured that as long as she remained on good terms with Cecilia, Cornell would have no choice but to help her out of this mess.
Tessa raised her chin and sneered, “Oh, are you here alone? Where is your guardian angel? There are so many men on the street. Why don’t you use your talents of seducing men to get one?”
Audrey rolled her eyes and then smiled at her.
“How is your face, Tessa? Did you put some ice on it?”
Tessa almost popped a vein at this moment.
What a bitch! Audrey dared to add salt to her injury. She must get back at Audrey for humiliating her in the Clement Group last time and her financial losses!
Tessa snarled and was about to tear Audrey apart with her bare hands.
“You bitch!”
“Tessa!”
Tessa was stopped by a gentle voice abruptly.
Following the voice, Audrey saw a woman in a wheelchair who was behind Tessa. This must be Cecilia, Audrey thought to herself.
Cecilia was wearing a graceful smile at this time. Her demeanor and smile alone showed that she was a well-educated lady from a reputable family.
The only drawback was that she was so ill that she could only get around in a wheelchair.
Audrey previously read somewhere that Cecilia had a blood coagulation disorder and she had to spend so much time abroad to receive treatment from the best doctors in the world.
When Tessa saw Cecilia, she suppressed her anger and said in a sarcastic tone, “It’s a great honor to introduce you two. Cecilia, meet Audrey, Cornell’s assistant. While you were abroad, she worked round the clock to look after Cornell.”
Her words were plain, yet explicit. Anyone with a brain would understand what she was trying to say.
Cecilia caught the drift. Her face turned pale as she looked at Audrey.
Cecilia was quick to get a grip. She looked at Tessa and said sweetly, “Oh, I just realized that I forgot my bag in the restaurant. Tessa, could you please fetch it for me?”
Tessa had wanted to say something more, but she swallowed it. She then walked back into the restaurant after giving Audrey a good glare.
Once Cecilia and Audrey were alone, Cecilia smiled up at Audrey and said, “Thanks for taking care of Cornell for me in the past two years.”
This simple sentence was a clear indication that she was declaring possession of Cornell.
Audrey found this very ironic because technically, Cornell was hers since she was legally his wife.
Cecilia continued, “I don’t know what I was thinking when I upped and left the country after a mere argument with Cornell. I thought it was over between us, but to my surprise, he had been waiting for me all these years. I’m so touched that I have decided to marry him soon.”
Audrey was too stunned to speak now.
In an instant, Cecilia’s voice became vague and distant.
It was as if an invisible hand grabbed Audrey’s heart and pulled her into an abyss. She soon experienced shortness of breath.
They were getting married? So, Cornell couldn’t wait to divorce her?
“Audrey? Audrey?”
Cecilia called twice and snapped her fingers before Audrey came to her senses.
“How may I help you?”
Looking at Audrey’s sullen face, Cecilia was very complacent.
Cecilia took out her phone, logged in to her WhatsApp account, and said, “Audrey, let me add you as a friend on WhatsApp. Cornell is so kind to me. I want to give him a surprise. Maybe I would borrow a favor from you by then.”
The last thing Audrey wanted to do was keep in contact with this woman. But when she saw the eager look on Cecilia’s face, she still gave Cecilia another account of hers.
The sun was shining outside, and there were fine beads of sweat on Cecilia’s head. Cecilia put away her phone and asked shyly, “Could you please help me move over there?”
Audrey nodded and pushed the wheelchair gently, but it didn’t move.
She pressed the armrest and bent down to check the wheels.
When Audrey lowered her head, Cecilia suddenly grabbed her arm and asked with a sneer, “It must have been fun for you to fuck my man for the past two years, right?”
This vulgar question gave Audrey a bad feeling.
Before she could blink, the wheelchair did a forceful lunge backward.
“Ah! Audrey!” Cecilia screamed at the top of her lungs. She had a look of horror as she fell back.
Audrey’s eyes widened in shock. She immediately reached out to pull Cecilia, but it was too late…
A loud bang was heard.
Cecilia fell to the hard ground, her forehead shedding blood.
“Cecilia!” A familiar voice came from behind.
Before Audrey could react, she was shoved aside by a great force.
Her side hit the handrail. A sharp pain shot into her brain. It left her numb and unable to tell if she hurt her knees or lower abdomen.
“Ouch! It hurts, Cornell!” Cecilia cried as she grasped Cornell’s shirt. Her forehead was marred with blood. She looked like she was in a lot of pain.
Cornell held the back of Cecilia’s head and looked at her wound with a worried expression.
The whole time, he didn’t spare a single glance at Audrey whom he had just pushed.
There was a tight knot in Audrey’s chest at this time. The air in her Lungs escaped faster than normal.
“I saw it with my own eyes, Cornell. This crazy woman pushed Cecilia!”
Out of nowhere, Tessa appeared and pointed at Audrey accusatorily.
She was telling a blatant lie. She hadn’t seen anything, but she just wanted to get Audrey in trouble.
Cornell sharply turned his head to look at Audrey. His eyes were blazing with rage.
Although his gaze was frightening, Audrey still had a trace of expectation in the bottom of her heart. She mumbled, “Cornell, I didn’t…”
“Save it!” Cornell cut her off with a roar. His eyes were burning like infrared lights as he said to her, “Just pray that nothing bad happens to Cecilia. Otherwise, I won’t let you go scot-free!”
He didn’t even want to listen to her side of the story.
The hope in Audrey’s eyes was dissipated slowly.
It was as if someone had driven a spear into her heart and left it there. Her heart was bleeding and aching.
Oh, how stupid of her to have been hopeful!
It turned out that Cornell already saw her as a vicious woman. He must hate her for “hurting” his beloved!
Suddenly, Audrey began to shiver. She hugged herself and still couldn’t figure out where exactly was hurting.
Cornell paid no attention to her after that roar. He just picked Cecilia up and took giant strides to his car.
Tessa followed him. Over her shoulder, she scowled at Audrey with disgust as if she was looking at a dirty stray dog.
“This should be a wake-up call to you. Now, you are nothing but a rat in a ditch. A strand of Cecilia’s hair is worth more than you are,”
Tessa cursed, but Audrey seemed not to hear it.
Audrey was just staring at Cornell as he walked away with Cecilia in his arms, concerns written all over his face.
