Died?

“One night, while they were asleep, I quietly set a fire and took the opportunity to escape. That’s how they ended up burning to death. Do you know how old I was? I was only twelve.”

Elspeth, witnessing his madness, couldn’t help but sigh at the tragic nature of fate.

“After that, as you’ve seen, I slowly transformed my money into power, accumulating my own influence until no one dared bully me. It was only after becoming stronger that I realized others wouldn’t dare underestimate me as long as I have real skills and hold real power.”

Slevin raised his hand and gently touched her face. “I admit, maybe I have a slight fondness for you, or maybe it doesn’t matter. In my eyes, you are a person with great strength, and that’s why I want to have you. I enjoy that feeling, but I’m also afraid that one day you’ll destroy everything I have now. Thus, I must keep you close to me. If I can’t do that, then I’ll destroy everything you have.”

Elspeth forcefully slapped away his hand and took a step back.

“Slevin, do you realize that you’ve become nothing more than a madman?”

“I’m well aware that I’m no longer a normal person. What’s the point of asking me whether I like you or not? Emotions are utterly useless.”

Elspeth looked at him, recalling the sentence he had just uttered, and it seemed to confirm her thoughts.

“So, where is Mr. Schwartz?”

Slevin glanced at her with an intrigued look, giving up all pretenses.

“It’s quite obvious. He’s dead.”

Even though Elspeth had already guessed the outcome, hearing the truth still caused her eyes to well up with tears.

“How did he die?”

Slevin rubbed his temples, seeming somewhat annoyed.

“The accident in your laboratory was caused by me. I intended to make both of you unconscious, then take you away. However, one of my subordinates miscalculated the number of explosives. The laboratory collapsed too quickly, and there was no time to save two people. He was trapped inside, so I could only bring you out.”

“Slevin, you’re a complete b*stard!”

Knowing that the person in front of her was responsible for Sonny’s death, Elspeth wanted nothing more than to tear him to pieces.

Sonny was such a kind and unassuming person, and he had no conflicts or grudges with anyone. He was an outstanding traditional medicine doctor who could have brought benefit to so many people, but he was killed by Slevin.

All of Slevin’s actions were driven by his selfish desires.

Elspeth had intended to force back her tears, but she couldn’t control them. They fell to the ground with a pitter-patter.

“Slevin, I will never forgive you in my lifetime.”

Slevin sneered mockingly, tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Why do I need your forgiveness?”

“In that case, go and repent for the things you’ve done.”

After saying this, a burst of sirens suddenly sounded from outside the door.

The housekeeper rushed in, flustered. “Mr. Slevin, there’s a group of police officers outside. According to them, they’re here to arrest you.”

Rather than being alarmed by these words, Slevin appeared calm, seeming as though he had anticipated this long ago.

“I understand.”

The housekeeper stood frozen, momentarily unsure how to respond.

Slevin calmly stood up, went to the nearby liquor cabinet, took out a bottle, pried it open, and poured it into a glass. The bright red liquid slowly flowed to the bottom of the glass as he swirled the glass in his hand.

“Turns out you called the police,” he remarked.

Elspeth nodded. Seeing his nonchalant attitude, she no longer felt the need to hide anything. She took out her phone, which she had just hung up, from her pocket.

“You’ve done so many wrongdoings. I can’t allow you to continue evading the consequences.”

“Sure. Suit yourself.”

Elspeth looked at his confident demeanor and suddenly had a bad feeling.

“Could it be that you’re involved with the-?”

“Of course not. How could I have the ability to bribe the police? What I meant was, I accept it.”

“Accept it?”

Elspeth never expected Slevin to easily admit defeat.

Seeing the ease in his eyes, Elspeth became even more puzzled.

Soon, the police rushed in.

“Which one of you is Slevin Damazio?”

Slevin leisurely placed his glass aside and smiled. “I am Slevin Damazio, the person you’re looking for.”

Even the police officer was surprised by how casually the criminal confessed. He was momentarily stunned before quickly returning to his senses, then signaled his colleagues to handcuff him.

Slevin’s hands were handcuffed in front of him, and he appeared slightly disheveled.

“Slevin, do you have anything else to say?”

Slevin shook his head lightly.

“No.”

“Do you regret what you’ve done?”

“Why should I regret it?” Slevin smirked, still exuding the same elegance as before. “The gears of fate drive us forward, and everything I’ve done has a beginning and an end.”

After saying these words, the police led him away from the villa.

Elspeth watched his silent departure and felt a complex mix of emotions.

…

When Callum’s condition had improved, Elspeth and he went through a series of procedures for Damian before returning to their home country.

Upon disembarking the plane, Harper cautiously approached Elspeth and whispered in her ear, “You have to be careful this time. Yelena has become abnormal. Ever since you disappeared, she started crying her eyes out and was desperately searching for you, but later on, she completely changed.”

Elspeth’s mouth twitched slightly. “How abnormal are we talking about?”

Harper awkwardly smiled, giving her a knowing look.

Elspeth heard that Yelena would be coming to pick them up today, so she didn’t think much of it. She assumed that Yelena had already adjusted to the fact that she was still alive.

However, as soon as the four of them disembarked, they were quickly surrounded by a group of people.

Burly bodyguards in black suits closed in, attracting curious gazes from the onlookers. The situation was incredibly awkward.

Elspeth covered her face, sighing helplessly.

Suddenly, the bodyguards formed an open path, and the sound of high heels could be heard.

Elspeth raised her head and saw Yelena. Just as Harper had described, she was completely different from before. Yelena had truly transformed her style.

Her long, black hair was tied up high, and she wore a pink camisole with a tight black leather skirt, emanating a cold and sexy aura.

Is this the same cute, obedient, and soft Yelena from before?

In contrast, Elspeth spent the past few years abroad and had completely turned into a motherly figure.

Though she hadn’t gained weight, she appeared more rounded and gentler in nature.

Meanwhile, Yelena had become closer to how Elspeth used to be.

As Elspeth found herself momentarily stunned, Yelena’s icy expression finally showed a hint of emotion.

“Elspeth, welcome back.”

Yelena flashed a cool smile.

Seeing the unfamiliar Yelena in front of her, Elspeth felt a mix of emotions. She wondered what Yelena had gone through all these years to become this way, and how the two of them who hadn’t been together for so long could feel so distant.

Thus, the two of them fell silent without exchanging more words. Yelena gestured for the bodyguards behind her to take their luggage, then noticed the timid little figure hiding behind Elspeth.

Damian perfectly inherited excellent genes from both his parents, and his captivating eyes hinted at his future as an incredibly attractive man.

Furthermore, his skin possessed an incredibly fair and delicate quality that compelled anyone to pinch his cheek.

That was precisely what Yelena did. After taking a few steps closer, she gently pinched his little face, relishing the softness beneath her fingertips.

Only then did a faint, kind smile appear on her otherwise frozen face.

“You must be Damian. Little one, do you know what you should call me?”

Damian, being able to handle the current situation, calmly nodded and said, “I know. I should call you Ms. Yelena. Ever since my mother’s memories recovered, she often mentioned you and showed me your pictures. Although you look different now, I can still vaguely recognize you. So, I know your name.”

Damian’s casual words struck Elspeth’s heart, stirring up ripples.

“You mean to say that your mother introduced me to you? Wait, did you say that your mother lost her memory?”

Damian nodded, looking somewhat helpless. After all, he was just a child, and he didn’t plan on keeping it a secret.

“My mother temporarily lost her memories due to an incident, and she only recently regained them.”

Yelena redirected her gaze to Elspeth, a hint of surprise on her face. “So, all these years, you…”

Elspeth lowered her head slightly, her face showing a hint of apology.

“I never expected that an accident would cause me to lose my memory. Fortunately, I survived, but Mr. Schwartz…”

Speaking of Sonny, Elspeth’s heart was forever filled with pain.

“What happened to the old man?”

Yelena had some interaction with Sonny in the past, and the two got along well. Seeing Elspeth’s expression, Yelena could roughly guess what had happened, and a trace of sorrow appeared on her face.
