“Yes,” said Martha, not concealing her feelings. “I don’t want my sister-in-law to be a difficult person.
That would make me very unhappy.”
“If it’s difficult, we ignore her,” Douglas said. “You like me because I’m happy.”
Martha was a little helpless, but smiled smugly. “But I can’t. I like my sister-in-law very much now.”
