Her eyes narrowed as an idea began to form.

15 minutes later, Alyssa had secured an entry pass. The unconscious man now lay hidden in the shrubs.

Once inside the hospital, Alyssa realized she needed a more convincing disguise. She found a cart and began pushing it steadily down a hallway.

Not knowing where Grover was being held, Alyssa didn’t naively expect to rescue him in one attempt. Her primary goal was to reconnoiter the area and devise a more comprehensive plan. She took deep breaths as she passed ward after ward.

To her dismay, the rooms were filled with terminally ill patients. Men, women, the elderly, and even children lay on dirty hospital beds, hovering on the brink of death.

There was no advanced medical equipment in sight-only rudimentary IV treatments, though Alyssa couldn’t be sure what kind of fluids were being administered.

As a doctor, Alyssa could tell these patients were beyond recovery. Most of them clidn’t have long to live.

Why, then, were they all gathered here? And why were they receiving such negligent care, as if simply waiting to die?

Her heart filled with doubt. Clenching her teeth, Alyssa silently pulled out her phone to record the grim scene. “Hey, you there! You, at the front!”

A cold voice startled her from behind, and her heart sank.

Alyssa turned around, feigning calm. A bodyguard dressed in black walked up to her, scrutinizing her with suspicion.

“Why haven’t I seen you around before? Are you new?”

Even though Alyssa was mostly covered up, female healthcare workers were rare in this hospital. Naturally, her appearance would draw attention.

Alyssa let out a laugh. “Hello, sir. I am new here.”

She flashed a sweet smile that reached her eyes. “There have been more people admitted here recently, so Ms. Gillis tasked me with helping out at the last minute.

“Oh, I see.”

Since Alyssa mentioned Sheryl’s name, despite being new, the bodyguard believed her right away. He said, “Don’t wander around aimlessly. There’s a male patient who just arrived today. He’s extremely important to Ms. Gillis. Go over there immediately and see if she needs any assistance.”

Relieved that the bodyguard’s suspicions were dispelled, Alyssa felt the tension in her body ease. She responded hastily, “Sure, I’ll head over right away!”

Meanwhile, at the best hospital in Solana City, Jeremy had been transferred to a regular ward for observation after his condition stabilized.

However, his collapse in front of the Walsh Group’s board members caused a significant stir within the corporation, and rumors started spreading like wildfire.

Justin, who was known to have poor health, appeared robust and energetic. On the other hand, Jeremy, in his prime, now seemed fragile and unwell.

Within a few hours, whispers about Justin reclaiming his position as heir and taking over Jeremy’s role began circulating across Walsh Group’s internal departments.

“Doctor, how is my son doing?” Javier grabbed the doctor in the hallway and inquired anxiously.

“Mr. Javier, please try not to worry. Mr. Jeremy’s life is not in danger. However..

The doctor hesitated, a flicker of doubt crossing his face. “His symptoms are more complex than they seem. It doesn’t appear to be just an acute episode.”

Standing behind, Justin lifted the corners of his lips slightly at the news. A sly expression flashed across his elegant face, but he quickly concealed it.

Javier paled in his panic. “What exactly is going on?”

*Unfortunately, I can only make a conclusive diagnosis once we have his blood test results.

After the doctor left, Justin stepped forward, helping Javier sit down in a nearby chair. In a warm tone, he consoled, “Dad, don’t worry too much. Unlike me, Jeremy has always been strong and healthy. He’ll pull through.”

*Healthy… Will he really recover fully?”

Javier hit his chest with his fist and stomped his foot in frustration. “Ever since Jeremy survived that brain injury, he hasn’t been the same. Physically or mentally. And all of it… it’s because of that Taylor family girl! She’s nothing but trouble, bringing chaos to our family!”

‘Dad, please don’t speak of Ms. Alyssa that way.’

Justin’s gaze darkened subtly, though his voice remained steady. “In my eyes, Ms. Alyssa is perfect. She has never hurt Jeremy. Everything that happened was due to his own choices. I hope you’ll refrain from speaking ill of her again and get along amicably with her in the future.”

Javier was stunned. He looked into Justin’s dark eyes and probed, “Justin, you… You’re serious about Alyssa?”

Justin smiled tenderly and answered, “Of course. I have never felt this way about anyone else.”

Javier knitted his brows together. “Must it be her? There are millions of good women out th-“

Justin interjected firmly, “It has to be her. So, I hope that you’ll give us blessings, Dad.”

‘Justin, you’ve had a difficult life. You stayed away from me for years, never asking for much. You want to pursue her now that Jeremy and Alyssa are no longer together. While I’m not happy about it, I won’t stand in your way.

‘But Alyssa comes from a prominent family. She’s stubborn and deeply devoted to Jeremy. Remember, she even married him against her father’s wishes! Even if I propose marriage on your behalf and try my best to bring you two together, would she agree?

“And Winston-he’s fiercely protective of Jeremy as his son-in-law. Would he ever accept someone else, especially Jeremy’s older brother?” Javier’s face was clouded with worry.

Justin lowered his gaze and chuckled softly. “You’re right. But I believe everything will fall into place.”

Everything would change.

That kidnapping incident had irrevocably altered his life and Jeremy’s. Now, he would reclaim everything that was rightfully his, putting things back where they belonged.

“Dad, just hypothetically speaking,” Justin said, patting Javier’s back gently. His voice was calm yet calculating. What would you do if Jeremy were unable to shoulder Walsh Group’s responsibilities due to his health?”

Javier rested his head in his hands, visibly troubled. “That’s the problem. Who could run the corporation in his stead if something were to happen to him?”

Justin leaned closer, his tone soft yet deliberate. “If you trust me, I wouldn’t mind temporarily managing the corporation on Jeremy’s behalf until he recovers.”

“Justin, physically… are you doing alright?” Javier widened his eyes, clearly surprised by Justin’s suggestion.

Justin had lived alone in Mosgravia for nearly 20 years. He had never asked Javier for anything or caused him trouble.

On the contrary, despite being in a foreign land, Justin extended a helping hand to Javier during two critical moments when the Walsh Group faced difficult times. Thanks to Justin’s support, the company managed to overcome those challenges.

Thinking about this, Javier began to see Justin in a new light. A wave of remorse washed over him.

“I’m much better now. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be seeing on my feet, would you?”

Justin offered a slight yet sincere smile. In a calm voice, he said, “Dad, I understand how important Jeremy is to you and the company. I’ve never intended to compete with him. All I want is to share your burdens and help the Walsh Group.

“With the bid for Project A5 just around the corner, Jeremy, being the responsible person he is, would surely blame himself if we failed to secure the project.

“I sincerely hope he regains consciousness tonight and returns to work tomorrow as if nothing happened. But if he doesn’t recover in time, I’m willing to step in and stabilize the situation until he’s back on his feet.

“He’s poured his heart and soul into Project A5, and he deserves all the credit. I won’t take anything away from him.”

“Justin, I never had to worry about you when you were young. Now, you’ve grown into someone mature, understanding, and reliable. I’m so grateful and relieved to have a son like you!”

Deeply touched, Javier placed a firm hand on Justin’s shoulder, his eyes misting over.

“We must move forward with Project A5. The bidder conference is at the beginning of next month. If Jeremy is unable to continue, you can temporarily take on the president’s responsibilities-“

“Absolutely not!”

A booming voice cut through the conversation, startling Javier.

Justin maintained his composed smile, but his eyes darkened with a dangerous gleam. He turned toward the source of the voice.

“Jeremy’s position is his alone. No one else is allowed to take it!”

From the other end of the hallway, Newton approached in his wheelchair, accompanied by Ben.

“Dad, why didn’t you let me know that you were coming? I could’ve come to get you!” Javier hurriedly stood.

Justin, however, rose calmly and greeted him with a slight nod of the head. “Grandpa.”

Newton’s eyes blazed with fury. With Ben’s assistance, he shakily stood and pointed at Javier, who was frozen in shock.

“Jeremy isn’t dead-he’s unwell! He’s exhausted himself for Walsh Group, working tirelessly to make our family the wealthiest in Solana City. And now, faced with a minor hurdle, you’re trying to strip away everything he’s worked for instead of showing him gratitude for his sacrifices.

“Javier, are you his biological father or his stepfather? Have you lost your senses? How can you repay his dedication with betrayal? Are you honoring the memory of his late mother, the woman you claimed to love most in your life?”
