“Could it be because of medications?” Alyssa muttered, opening her eyes slowly.

Anxiously, Cyrus pressed on, “What did you say, Lyse? What medications?”

When we were at Jameson’s, Jeremy took medications Sir gave him. They turned him into the emotionless machine he is now. And it seems Damien’s condition is similar. Could it be that Damien took the same medication, which turned him into who he is now?”

Cyrus questioned, “What the hell was that medication?”

“Previously, Jul mentioned that it was a medication that damaged cranial nerves. Plus, it’s irreversible.”

So, even if we find Damien, he’s already been manipulated and brainwashed. Would he even want to come home with us?”

At the mention of home, a lump formed in Alyssa’s throat. She took a deep breath and said,” Don’t worry, Cyrus. I will wake Damien up, no matter the cost. I will bring him home.”

Jeremy had been feeling mentally exhausted for three days since his fainting spell at the hospital.

During a regular corporate meeting, he even zoned out and started nodding off in front of everyone.

He turned down all evening business parties and social events, opting to return to Seaview Manor with Xavier.

Xavier’s eyes were filled with concern as he trailed behind Jeremy. “Mr. Walsh, you haven’t been doing well lately. Would you like to go to the doctor’s?”

“Which doctor?”

Jeremy felt a heaviness in his body, a throbbing in his head, and a chill in the air that made him uncomfortable in a way he couldn’t quite explain. “Dr. Lovelace is gone. Who else can solve my problems?”

Xavier, deeply worried, sighed like a father fretting over his son. “But if you keep ignoring this, what will you do if it gets worse? After today’s meeting, the higher-ups were already whispering about you behind your back. If rumors start spreading…

“I am not sick,” Jeremy replied, his breath labored as he clenched his teeth to suppress his discomfort. “No one knows my body better than I do.”

Xavier lowered his head, troubled. This version of Jeremy was more stubborn than ever, refusing to listen to anyone.

Inside the living room, Justin and Javier were sitting on the couch, chatting happily and sipping tea, creating a calm, harmonious atmosphere.

“Welcome home, Jeremy,” Justin greeted with a smile and a nod.

“Hi, Dad. Hi, Justin,” Jeremy replied, his face expressionless, his eyes showing a hint of fatigue.

Jeremy had studied at the military academy and had endured countless injuries over the years, both major and minor. Yet, he had never seemed so defeated before. Justin frowned slightly. “Jeremy, are you feeling unwell? You don’t look good.”

Jeremy answered immediately, “I’m fine.”

Just then, Sheryl, dressed in a white business suit, walked over carrying a tray of carefully arranged fruit. As she approached, her eyes met Jeremy’s. She smiled softly and tucked a few strands of hair behind her ear in a delicate, feminine gesture. But Jeremy coldly looked away, unfazed.

Sheryl’s smile faltered, and she felt a surge of irritation inwardly. She had assumed their relationship would have grown closer after she had saved him, but nothing had changed.

Still, Justin had advised her to be patient. Jeremy, dense as he was, needed to be won over slowly.

“Jeremy, you really should seek treatment if you’re not feeling well. Don’t delay just because it’s inconvenient,” Javier said, his expression stern but fatherly. “You’re the president of Walsh Group.

“If something happens to you, it’ll cause turmoil within the company. You need to keep that in mind. At least you’ve come to your senses and aren’t bewitched by that woman from the Taylor family anymore. You no longer have to sacrifice yourself for her.”

Javier’s tone grew more intense. “It’s absurd that a woman from the Taylor family had such control over you. It’s embarrassing!”

Annoyed, Jeremy furrowed his brow. “Dad, if there’s nothing else, I’m going upstairs.”

He turned to leave.

“Mr. Jeremy,” Sheryl suddenly called out in a sincere voice. “Have you been feeling light-headed and weak recently? Do you sometimes feel chills all over your body?”

Jeremy’s eyes widened. In a low voice, he asked, “How did you know that?”

“Dr. Gillis isn’t just an exceptional surgeon. When she was in Mosgravia, she also researched mental illnesses and related medications.” Justin took a casual sip of tea. “I heard from Dr. Lovelace that you suffered brain damage after taking some unverified medication while you were with Jameson.

“Since Dr. Gillis identified your symptoms, she may be able to treat you. Why not let her give it a try? It might bring you some relief from the pain.”

Jeremy remained expressionless and replied calmly, “Thanks, Justin, but I’ll pass.”

“If Dr. Gillis can help, you should go ahead with it.” Javier’s face brightened upon hearing this. “Dr. Gillis, I officially appoint you as Jeremy’s private physician! Don’t worry about your salary. As long as Jeremy recovers, I’ll make sure you’re well compensated.”

Jeremy furrowed his brow in protest. “Dad, I don’t need a private physician. Besides, Justin needs Dr. Gillis’ care. She shouldn’t have to look after two patients at once.”

“Jeremy, you’re my brother. You don’t need to feel guilty about it,” Justin said with a smile. “I’m already much better under Dr. Gillis’ care. If you’re uncomfortable with having my people around, at least allow her to be involved in your treatment.

“I’m sure her expertise will help ease your condition. Plus, you’re in a critical position now. The future of Walsh Group rests on your shoulders. If something happened to you, Grandpa and Dad would be devastated.”

That last statement struck a chord with Jeremy.

After a brief silence, he agreed. “Alright then. Thanks for thinking of me, Justin.”

Justin gave a gracious smile. “No worries.”

Sheryl approached gracefully, a polite smile on her face. She extended her hand toward Jeremy, who remained cold and distant. ‘Mr. Jeremy, I look forward to working with you.”

Jeremy’s frown deepened. He made no move to respond.

Sheryl awkwardly left her hand outstretched, her forced smile faltering.

Reluctantly, and only to avoid embarrassing Justin, Jeremy extended his hand and shook hers.

The midnight stillness of Seaview Manor was broken only by the soft glow of a single table lamp. In the dimly lit room, Justin sat on a couch, his navy blue nightshirt draped loosely over his frame. A pair of elegant silver- framed glasses perched on the bridge of his tall nose, his eyes cast downward.

His striking features, a perfect blend of symmetry and sophistication, hinted at a man of depth and reserve. Yet, his enigmatic presence concealed a hidden danger lurking beneath the surface.

Sheryl approached, carrying a tray laden with a glass of water and a small plate of pills. “Mr. Justin, it’s time for your medications.”

Justin didn’t rush to take the pills. Instead, he continued flipping through the document on his lap. Without looking up, he said calmly, “Jeremy is emotionally numb right now. It’s only natural for him to ignore you. Don’t let it affect you. Just follow my instructions.”

Sheryl panicked as she quickly clarified, “Mr. Justin, I swear I have no personal motives regarding Jeremy. Everything I’m doing is for your greater plan. Please believe me!”

“I do,” Justin replied with a smile.

In one swift motion, he grabbed the pills, tilted his head back, and swallowed them. The bitterness made him wince.

“Mr. Justin, why do you have to endure this….”. Sheryl said with a hint of resentment in her voice as she handed him the glass of water. “I wish Jeremy could experience even a fraction of the suffering you’ve been through. But no matter what, it won’t make up for the lifetime of pain he’s caused you.”

Justin gave a slight smile and put down the document. He then placed a small bag of blue pills in front of Sheryl. Now that he and Alyssa have cut ties, you have a chance to get closer to him. Learn his habits quickly and find an opportunity to slip him these.”

Sheryl picked up the pills and examined them under the lamp, her voice filled with excitement. “Are these newly developed by RC? What are they called?”

Justin’s eyes glinted as he replied, “They’re DAC0089, also known as ‘Crystal Ice.”

Sheryl caught on immediately. In a hushed tone, she asked, “Will there be noticeable side effects?’

“The pills Jeremy took earlier were from the earliest version of DAC0089. Those had harsher ingredients, making their effects ten times stronger, but they also had severe side effects.

“This current version is much improved. It won’t be long before it’s ready for the market. But once he stops taking it, the withdrawal symptoms will be obvious.”

“Mr. Justin,” Sheryl asked, worried, “won’t Jeremy realize something’s wrong with his health after a while? He’s surrounded by trusted people like Xavier and Mrs. Rosie. Wouldn’t he immediately suspect me?”

Justin smirked and elegantly adjusted his glasses. “I never intended for you to stay hidden indefinitely. You might have the patience for that, but I don’t.”

Sheryl was taken aback but quickly nodded.

Justin’s smile grew wider as if he found the situation fascinating. His tone carried a hint of excitement. “Besides, by the time Jeremy realizes something is wrong with ‘Crystal Ice,’ his heart will no longer be able to control his body.”

That day, after Cyrus and Alyssa reached an agreement, Cyrus returned home to update Winston and Mandy.

Winston had already assumed that Mandy had misidentified Remy, thinking it was just a result of her longing for Damien. He hadn’t held out much hope from the start. Mandy, however, was devastated. Her disappointment ran deep, and her emotions were heavily affected.

Initially, she was doubtful, but she eventually had to accept the truth. She spent three or four days in bed, overwhelmed with despair.

It wasn’t until Alyssa returned home that Mandy forced herself to sit up. She pressed on, asking once more,” Lyse… are you certain? Are you sure he wasn’t Damien?”

Tears brimmed in her eyes as she spoke.

Thanks to her meticulous self-care, Mandy always appeared refined and younger than her years, but she looked noticeably aged after just a few days of sadness.
