Jameson was the devil, and Carl was the devil’s vicious minion.
The man, who shot Wesley three times, had the audacity to act like he cared about her. It was revolting!
“And now you want to keep this punk’s body in one piece. If Mr. Schmidt finds out…”
“Then, don’t let him find out.”
Amber looked at him firmly, but her voice surprisingly gentle. “Wesley had always treated me well, like I was his sister. Now, he’s dead because of me. Carlton, I’ve never asked you for anything, but I’m asking now. Please, I beg you. I know you have your ways.
Carl had her in his heart. He instantly gave in as he looked at the teary-eyed woman before him. He sighed helplessly. “Okay, I’ll do it.”
“Thank you…” Amber looked grateful.
“However, you must promise me not to scheme against Mr. Schmidt anymore. Don’t do anything stupid.”
Carl enveloped her in his embrace.
His heart beat faster. “I know you’ve suffered a lot. Once Mr. Schmidt has full control over the Schmidt Group and successfully develops the new drug, you can finally leave this dreadful place. We’ll have better days ahead of us!”

Amber’s heart was about to explode as she thought about Wesley’s death. “When is this new drug expected to be completed?”
“Soon,” Carl murmured in her ear.
The next day, Julien arrived alone at Alyssa and Jeremy’s villa.
“Jul, where’s Jonah?”
Alyssa and Julien sat in the living room while Jeremy, ever the considerate host, brought out a platter of cut fruits for their guest. “Jonah is at home taking care of Dad and managing some household errands. We’re leaving for Mosgravia in two days.”
A sweet sentiment welled up in Julien’s eyes as he addressed Winston as “Dad” so naturally.
Alyssa looked at him, feeling uneasy. She wondered if Jonah had destroyed the photos of his ex.
“Lyse, I’m here because the medication test results are out,” Julien announced, his voice firm as he handed them the document.
Alyssa tore open the brown envelope while Jeremy quickly sat beside her.
“The breakdown seems complex,” Alyssa said. She was a surgeon, so she knew very little about pharmaceuticals.
Jeremy, however, perused the document with ease. “Is this considered medication, not a drug?”
“It is a type of medication. I’ve checked the contents. It’s basically an antidepressant and antipsychotic meant to stabilize mental conditions,” Julien said sternly. Jeremy’s expression darkened. “If it’s medication, Jameson could use it as an excuse, even if we catch him. Selling medication is a far cry from illegal drugs.”
Alyssa, outraged, clenched her fists until her knuckles cracked. “How vicious of him to conduct lab tests on humans!”
“There’s an unexpected twist, though,” Julien interrupted, taking the report back and scrutinizing it further. His brow furrowed. “The components of this medication are remarkably similar to those of a medication recently developed by Lovelace Pharmaceuticals for Alzheimer’s disease. Honestly, based solely on these results, I’d mistake it for a generic medication produced by Lovelace Pharmaceuticals.”
“Alzheimer’s disease?” Shock appeared on Jeremy’s face. “I thought this was an incurable disease. There is no medication for it.”
Julien nodded. “That’s right.
However, the Lovelace Group is determined to develop a drug for it My father had formed the country’s best drug research and development tear for this purpose. They poured all their resources into it.
“I hear there have been recent developments, but I suspect it’s not that simple. Releasing such news might be a ploy to attract further investment. The research could even be fabricated.” Alyssa’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Jameson’s mother has Alzheimer’s disease.”
“He might have developed this medication through despicable means, potentially for his mother,” Jeremy said as he read Alyssa’s mind.
“However, there’s something odd. The Schmidt Group never claimed to have a pharmaceutical division or manage any pharmaceutical companies.”
Alyssa sensed something was amiss. “Jameson suddenly developed this medication and even secretly can experiments on it. He might be malicious, but he isn’t capable of plotting such a deliberate scheme. After all, this isn’t his area of expertise.
Jeremy held Alyssa’s waist and gently caressed it. “Lyse, do you think someone is manipulating him? Maybe Jameson isn’t the mastermind behind this medication but merely a pawn?”
“I can’t help but think so. He grew up in the shadows in Kontina for years. Who knows what kind of company he kept?”
“However, we have no proof,” Julien said, frustration evident in his voice.
“We can’t prove that the so-called ‘drug addicts’ are actually subjects of a human trial or that Jameson is involved. What should we do?”
Alyssa and Jeremy exchanged thoughtful glances, both lost in contemplation.
Just then, Alyssa’s phone rang.
It was Cyrus calling.
She quickly answered, “What’s the matter, Cyrus?”
“Something terrible happened, Lyse!” Cyrus exclaimed. “Nathan Waters was arrested for murder!”
They hadn’t finished their conversation about the medication when another problem emerged.
Xavier drove Jeremy’s Rolls-Royce as they sped to the police station, a heavy atmosphere settling in the car.
Cyrus was waiting at the police station, his expression intense.
“Everything was fine. How did Uncle Nathan end up involved in a murder?” Alyssa asked eagerly.
“We received a report last night that a male body was found in an obscure alley on South Harmony Street in the West City District. He was severely beaten, with many signs of lacerations and heavy impact. “The victim had a Northern Cardinal badge on his chest. After confirming his identity, it turned out he was a member of The Ivory Gang,” Cyrus explained calmly.
Cyrus continued, “The alley is near a high-end membership club. It’s usually empty during the day, and guests drive directly into the basement car park at night. No one walks in that alley.
“It was an old lady who was collecting recyclables that found the body due to the stench two days after his death. By then, the body had shown signs of decay, with large rats crawling on it-” “Cyrus, stop!” Alyssa interrupted, her face pale. “A summary will do. We just had lunch!”
Jeremy, however, looked intrigued.
“In short, after several rounds of interrogation, Nathan admits to beating the man out of frustration. He denied the allegation of murder. He claimed that the victim was still alive when he left him.” Jeremy asked seriously, “Cyrus, did the police retrieve Nathan’s DNA from the body?”
Cyrus furrowed his eyebrows and shook his head. “Not only did we find his DNA, but we also have surveillance footage of the alley. It shows Nathan dragging the victim into the alley, beating him up, and then leaving.”
Alyssa asked further. “Was the violence caught on camera?”
“No,” Cyrus replied, “but the footage shows only Nathan and the old lady. No one else entered the alley. This isn’t my case, but my colleague from the technical department confirmed that the footage hasn’t been edited. So, Nathan is the prime suspect now.”
Cyrus sighed deeply. “The physical evidence is there, even though we have no witnesses. If Nathan were charged with manslaughter, he would likely spend the rest of his life in prison.”
Alyssa leaned back in her seat, a heavy silence settling in her heart. She didn’t believe Nathan was inherently violent, but the evidence was undeniable. He’d beaten the man, leaving him in the alley. “Nathan manhandled the guy, then left like nothing happened right under the security camera! It doesn’t add up.” Jeremy squinted, his brow furrowing in doubt.
Alyssa and Cyrus looked at him. “What do you mean?”
“First, I know Nathan Waters as street-smart man. He’s not a violent thug who acts without thinking about the consequences. As Marc Waters right-hand man, he always had the future of The Ivory Gang in mind. He would never do something so reckless.”
A sharp glint appeared in Jeremy’s eyes. “Even if he acted rashly and beat someone to death, Nathan is an experienced man. Why wouldn’t he arrange for someone to clean up the crime scene? It doesn’t make sense.”
Cyrus nodded thoughtfully. “Exactly, Jeremy. It felt off to me too. That’s why I called you both.”
“Jeremy, are you saying…” Alyssa blinked and anxiously grabbed his hand resting on his thigh. “Uncle Nathan was framed? Someone entered the alley after him and killed the man?”
Jeremy looked at her tenderly, taking her hand in his. “Only you know what I’m thinking, Lyse.”
Cyrus coughed gently, feeling awkward. The couple’s affection for each other often made him feel out of place.
“Who would be so ruthless to frame Nathan?” Cyrus furrowed his eyebrows tightly. “Could it be an enemy of the Ivory Gang?”
“It’s possible, but I don’t think their enemies would attack in secret. They’re usually blunt and confrontational.” Alyssa leaned into Jeremy’s embrace, her eyes logical and cold. “Plus, the person framing Uncle Nathan knew how to avoid the cameras and didn’t leave any traces on the body. This person is a professional with excellent observational skills.”
“I don’t think this is something a street thug would do,” Jeremy knowingly said as he caressed Alyssa’s neck.
“Cyrus, I think we should investigate the crime scene. Any clues could exonerate Uncle Nathan!” Alyssa’s phone buzzed the moment she finished speaking. It was Colene.
“Colene.”
“Lyse, Nathan would never kill anyone! Someone must have framed him!” Colene’s voice trembled with anxiety.
“Colene, don’t panic. We’ll get to the bottom of this.” Alyssa’s heart tightened, but she continued to comfort her gently.
