Landon had always been fearless. Despite knowing full well that there were cold-blooded mercenaries on Shelland Island who would not hesitate to kill, he accompanied Jeremy there without hesitation.
But right now, his face was as white as a sheet. With shaky steps, he stumbled his way through the room.
The living room offered a grim tableau¡ªBetty and her gang of bullies lay sprawled and unconscious across the room. The room was not very big, yet Lauren was nowhere to be found.
Jeremy and Alyssa tore through the remaining rooms, their shouts of Lauren’s name swallowed by echoing silence¡ªno answer.
At this point, Cyrus rushed into the room with two other colleagues.
“We’ve searched the entire manor and surrounding areas. Lauren is not here!”
“What about Angelina?” Alyssa’s beautiful face was beaded with sweat.
“We can’t reach her! But the Technical Department is tracking her phone!”
Jeremy’s heart sank. “Lyse, you said that Preston set up this trap. Were Zoe and those rats just a distraction so that he could take Lauren and Angelina somewhere?”
Alyssa’s throat tightened as stifling fear gripped her.
Zoe realized that there was no escaping. Her legs turned to jelly, and she trembled like a leaf.
Zoe remained oblivious to the consequences that awaited her, unaware that her earlier actions had come to light. She put on a scared and pitiful face before crawling to Landon’s side, crying out in fake anguish.
“Landon! You’re here! Are you here to save me? Preston kidnapped me, and he even tried to lay his hands on me¡ªah!”
A bloodcurdling scream tore from Zoe’s throat before she could finish her words. Murderous fury blazed in Landon’s eyes. With a powerful kick, he launched Zoe flying, like a ragdoll.
The others barely registered the blur that zipped past them before a heavy thud echoed through the room. Zoe slammed into the wall, then crumpled to the ground in a heap.
A groan escaped her lips as her body spasmed, and a spray of crimson splattered the floor as she spat out a mouthful of blood.
Landon ignored her whimpers. He stalked toward her with menacing strides and began kicking her stomach with all his might.
He held back no mercy. His intent was clear¡ªhe wanted her dead.
Pain seared through Zoe. Robbed of any sound, she writhed on the floor, her worst self on full display for her former classmates and lover.
Usually, Jeremy would intervene to stop Landon, but this time, he stood to the side, his cold gaze fixed on the scene unfolding before him. He wanted to do everything Landon was doing now. However, if he were Landon, Zoe would be dead.
Though Jeremy harbored the same desire for vengeance, he refused to let hatred override his rationality. He wouldn’t become a murderer, nor would he allow Landon to cross that line.
“Landon, stop! You’ll be charged if she dies!” Cyrus, acting as the voice of reason, intervened. “Think about Lauren. Do you want to live apart from her forever?”
Landon’s eyes burned with a terrifying madness. He shoved Cyrus aside, grabbed Zoe’s hair, and yanked her limp form off the ground. “Where’s Lauren? Tell me!”
Blood filled her mouth, choking her words. Still clinging to her lies, she rasped, “I… don’t… know… Landon… it. wasn’t me.”
“Why are you still lying, Zoe?”
Alyssa trembled with anger and tears in her eyes as she roared, “From the moment you stepped into this manor, every move you made was being recorded by hidden cameras and live streamed. The entire country has witnessed your crimes. Preston has tricked you from the start, yet you continue to hide the truth! Will you wait until it is too late to face reality?”
Zoe was stunned, her mouth agape, blood staining her lips.
“I-I know! I know!”
Mason, the most cowardly among them, realized he was less powerful compared to the others.
Crawling to Jeremy’s feet with his incapacitated limbs like a wounded sea lion, he said, “Two men came and took Lauren and the other woman away! Zoe even addressed one of the men as ‘Mr. Carsen,’ but he ignored her completely!
“Mr. Jeremy, Mr. Landon! Zoe tricked us into coming here! She threatened us¡ªif we didn’t beat Lauren up, she would kill us all! We were coerced into this¡ªah!”
Jeremy’s cold glare bore into Mason as he kicked him in the face. “How dare you call Lauren by her first name?”
Mason wept, his front teeth shattered.
“Zoe has been bullying Lauren since high school! She manipulated us all!” The man in the blue suit cried along as well.
“Zoe! Weren’t you wondering who had betrayed you? It was me!”
The woman in the red dress abandoned all pretenses and revealed herself. “I have been hating your arrogant, bossy attitude for a long time! You always used us to bully Lauren, but you never treated us as equals!”
People would turn against the mighty when they lost their power.
Freddy, who was lying in the corner, also wanted to speak up. But his tongue had been severed, so he couldn’t speak.
However, Jeremy would never let Freddy, who had tried to rape Lauren, go unpunished. He walked over to Freddy and delivered a powerful kick at the latter’s nether regions.
A choked “Uh!” was all Freddy’s severed tongue could manage before his body stiffened. He fainted from the pain.
The kick most likely also neutered him.

“We’ve already issued orders to arrest him. All ports, train stations, and airports have been locked down. He won’t escape us!” Cyrus tightened his fist, his knuckles cracking under the pressure. As the chief police officer, he had no choice but to rein in his anger.
“Haha… Hahaha!”
Nobody noticed when Betty woke up with a significant bump on her head. Laughing hysterically like a maniac, she pointed at Zoe. “Zoe, you played me for so long and even messed up my life. Now, karma’s serving you!”
Alyssa walked over and slapped her twice. “Who sent you back here? Speak!”
“Haha… I wouldn’t tell you even on my deathbed, bitch!” Betty chuckled.
“Do you think you could escape by coming back here? Returning here will only make your situation even worse!”
“It’s no big deal. What do I have to be afraid of now that I have been infected with a variety of diseases? Zoe drank my blood, so she will be infected as well! Lauren bit Zoe, which means she will be next.
“Hahaha! They all have AIDS! Jeremy, all of your plotting and scheming have dragged your dearest sister down! It’s all your fault! Hahaha!”

Landon slammed Zoe back to the ground, his scorching hatred burning him from the inside out and torturing his heart. “Even if you died a million times, it wouldn’t be enough to repay Lauren!”
Suddenly, his phone rang. Landon stared at the name on the screen, his eyes widening. It was Preston.
Shakily, he pressed the phone to his ear; a voice laced with chilling amusement slithered from the speaker. “Landon, as your uncle, I never really doted on you. This is my last gift to you, my nephew. Do you like it?”
Everyone held their breath. The cops are already tracing the call.
“This is between us. Don’t even think about hurting Lauren and Angelina,” Landon’s voice cracked.
“I’ve sent you the address. Come find me.”
Preston chuckled sinisterly. “We need to end things¡ªas uncle and nephew.”
Preston laid out two demands in his ransom call¡ªno guns and Landon had to come alone.
“Jeremy, Lyse, and Cyrus,” Landon said. “You guys handle the situation here. I’ll go meet Preston.”
Without a second thought, Landon turned and headed for the door.
“Landon!” Jeremy cried out, his heart hammering in his chest. He lunged forward and grabbed Landon’s arm. “This is Preston’s trap! He might kill you; you cannot go alone!”
“I know he wants to kill me,” Landon said with a humorless smile that quickly twisted into a grimace. It was a sight that tugged at the others’ hearts.
“Landon, we’ll go with you!” Alyssa declared with determination in her gaze. “We can stay hidden and wait for an opening. That way, we can save Lauren and Angelina for sure!”
Landon shook his head. “Lyse, thank you, but I can’t take that risk. If giving up my life means Lauren and Angelina can come back safely, then that’s a price I’m willing to pay.”
Alyssa’s eyes welled with tears, and Jeremy’s heart sank further.
“Landon,” Cyrus said, approaching him with a determined glint in his eyes. He opened his hand, revealing a tiny camera. “Take this. It’ll allow you to stay in contact with the police. I’ll handle things here.”
