She absentmindedly scanned the surroundings, and her expression suddenly changed. She shot up from her seat and pointed at a man approaching them.

“You-Why are you everywhere? How did you get here?” Rose gasped.

Alyssa and Jeremy turned to see who she was addressing.

In a sea of lights, Silas calmly made his way toward them, only to be stunned when he saw Rose. He retorted, “You brash woman! I should be asking you the same question! What are you doing here?”

Blinking, Alyssa tugged at Rose’s sleeve and whispered, “Rose, do you know him?”

“He’s the idiot who crashed into me!” Rose accused Silas through gritted teeth.

“Ah,” Alyssa replied with a look of realization. Then, she rose and walked up to Silas. She stood on tiptoe and suddenly draped her arm across his shoulders in an intimate move, much to Rose’s surprise.

Jeremy’s eyes darkened. Even though he knew Alyssa and Silas were siblings, he couldn’t help but envy any man near her.

“Rose, come here. I’ll introduce you to each other,” Alyssa said to the bewildered Rose with a grin.

“He’s my brother, Silas. He’s the lead prosecutor in Solana City.”

Rose immediately paled. Her mind went blank like she had been struck by lightning. She panicked and was at a loss for what to do.

Had she really just insulted Alyssa’s brother right in front of her? Oh, that was a grave blunder!

Jeremy sat calmly and observed the situation, barely concealing a smile. He empathized with Rose, though. Alyssa had too many siblings, and it wasn’t unusual to bump into one of them on the streets.

Having once fallen victim to his own ignorance, he had suffered at the hands of Alyssa’s brothers as a result of not grasping their family dynamics.

Silas, on the other hand, watched Rose’s face transform from fear to anger, her cheeks turning as red as a ripe cherry.

Initially upset by her “sugar mommy” remark, he couldn’t help but soften when he saw her adorable flustered expression.

“You’re not going to disown me for this, are you?”

“Hmm,” Alyssa pretended to contemplate, resting her index finger under her chin.

“Madam…” Rose pouted, looking close to tears.

Alyssa approached Rose with a serious demeanor before breaking into a wide grin.

“Silly thing, what on earth are you thinking? This isn’t something worth getting upset over. I would have no mentee left if I were to disown you!”

Rose felt much more reassured but remained embarrassed.

“Besides, I know you’re a nice woman, Rose. If you’re mad at Silas, he must have done something really wrong,” Alyssa reassured Rose, shooting a stern glance at Silas.

Silas raised an eyebrow, a mix of amusement and chagrin on his face. Despite feeling slighted, he chose to keep silent.

He couldn’t believe that Rose, the audacious woman who had crashed into his car and even mocked him, was Alyssa’s close friend. He considered himself unlucky.

At that moment, a group of guests showed up, and the party grew merrier.

Mandy, Colene, Jonah, Tatiana, and Cyrus-who was busy at work but forced to attend the party by Mandy hugged Alyssa in turns. The new couple, Landon and Lauren, went up to chat with Alyssa as well. They

The scene resembled a festive family gathering, drawing the attention of other guests. It was a picturesque sight of a happy family parading their attractive children.

Amidst the celebration, Jeremy sat alone in a corner, his eyes filled with melancholy as he gazed at Alyssa.

She was surrounded by loved ones who cherished her, an image that evoked envy in him. Soon, his eyes welled up with tears.

That was the life that Alyssa deserved to live. She had spent her first 20 years well-loved. The only suffering and pain she had experienced had been inflicted by him.

Jeremy, who was a charismatic and powerful leader in business, sat there in a daze, feeling left out. No one cared to go up and greet him.

Feeling awkward, he pressed his lips and took a deep breath as he came to a decision. Even if Alyssa didn’t end up with him, he would still protect her in this life.

Lauren looked up and met Alyssa’s gaze with her clear eyes. Despite the silence, Alyssa read Lauren’s mind just by exchanging looks.

Jeremy looked over and comforted Alyssa with a hint of pleading, “This is the first time Lauren’s had a crush on someone and defended him. Just think of it as Lauren going on a trip. If she’s happy with

Landon, let’s give them a chance.”

“I can tell that Lauren cares about him. I don’t want to get between them. I just-” Alyssa stared into

Jeremy’s eyes.

He smiled understandingly. “I know. I get it.” He only reserved this side of himself for her.

He added, “But don’t you forget that Lauren has me too.”

It was a curt and powerful statement. She felt her heart skip a beat and hurriedly looked away.

Jeremy had always been taciturn, but each word he spoke carried weight.

All the family members took their seats at Alyssa’s table, except for Winston and Lyla. Jeremy insisted on sitting beside Alyssa, unfazed by the disapproving looks from those around her. He had thick skin, to say the least.

“Mr. Walsh, you’re seated at the wrong table.” Cyrus spoke his mind as he shot daggers from across the table, as though he were examining a suspect.

“This table is reserved for my family and our close friends. What are you doing here?”

All eyes at the table turned to Jeremy, and a hush fell over them.

Jeremy responded with a smirk, meeting Cyrus’s challenge head-on while casting a tender gaze in Alyssa’s direction. He insisted, “I’m exactly where I should be-right beside Lyse.”

Alyssa nearly spat out her drink. She, spun around and glared at Jeremy, who looked at ease.

Cyrus muttered under his breath, “That jerk.” Then, he took a sip of water.

“I don’t know the Walsh family’s rules, but we don’t allow animals at the dinner table.” Colene immediately fired at Jeremy, implying that he was a beast.

Colene crossed her legs and leaned backward while drumming her calloused fingers on the table. She had the air of the daughter of a gang leader.

Jeremy frowned silently and clenched his jaw. No one would feel good after being called an animal.

He might be hopelessly in love with Alyssa and desperate to leave a good impression on her family, but that didn’t mean they had the right to insult him.

“Enough now. Since Grandpa is here tonight, let’s get along well and enjoy dinner for his sake.” Alyssa helped Jeremy out, thinking that her family was a little harsh on him.

At that moment, Sean called out to Alyssa, drawing her aside and whispering, “Mr. Jameson Schmidt is here.”

Jeremy picked up on that, looking visibly upset.

Alyssa responded flatly, “Oh? I didn’t expect him to join us. Bring him in and seat him at the Schmidts’

table.”

“The situation is somewhat complicated,” Sean informed.

After a pause, he lowered his voice, saying, “Mrs. Schmidt is here with him.”

Alyssa gasped in shock, her eyes widening. “She’s here too?”

Sean confirmed, “Yes, they’re waiting outside the hall. What would you like to do?”

Alyssa immediately followed Sean and left the hall.

Jeremy felt a bitter sense of loss after being left behind. He tightened his grip on his glass, almost crushing it.

dressed family members.

His neatly slicked-back hair and gold-rimmed glasses added an intellectual touch to his appearance.

“Jimmy, let’s… let’s go home. I’m scared…” Lily mumbled, tugging timidly at Jameson’s shirt.

Thanks to Jameson, she was all dressed up in an exquisite magenta dress, and she wore an expensive hairpin on her bun.

Although her set of pearl jewelry seemed simple, it had been exclusively designed for the royal family in
