Betty’s heart sank into a dark abyss. She gritted her teeth in anger.
Sophia downed a glass of champagne, growling. “Do you think I’m just going to give up. Alyssa Taylor? I’m not going to let you ruin my night any further!”
Outside the ballroom, Betty walked to a less-crowded area before calling Zoe. It only went through after several rings.
“Hmph. You got some balls for calling me,” Zoe said over the phone, her voice laced with irritation.
Though Betty hated Zoe for having used her before, the saying that her enemy’s enemy was her friend couldn’t be more applicable now. Betty needed Zoe’s help to deal with Lauren once and for all.
So she composed herself and said sternly, “I’m not in the mood to argue. I bet you’ll feel the same way after you hear about what happened earlier tonight.”
Landon held Lauren’s hand as he steadily walked forward. He smiled, feeling the sweat on her palm from how nervous she was
“L-Landon, why aren’t we going to the parking lot?” Lauren asked worriedly when they reached the hotel lobby.
“The underground parking lottakes too long to drive through. My car is parked right outside.”
“But.. but the reporters are outside. Lauren suddenly stopped in her tracks, growing rigid with fear.
“I-If we go out right now, the reporters are going to write nonsense.”
“Nonsense? What kind of nonsense?” Landon took off his coat and draped it around Lauren’s shoulders, then buttoned it up for her.
He was such a caring boyfriend!
“If this nonsense they write just so happens to be what I genuinely feel, then it wouldn’t be nonsense at all,
Landon said.
“Um… you know… they’re going to say we we’re in that kind of relationship…” Lauren mumbled, her face flushed red. Her voice had grown softer the more she spoke, tickling Landon’s heart like a gentle feather.
Landon swallowed tensely, passion igniting in his eyes. He gently placed a hand on Lauren’s back, caressing her. “That would be wonderful.”
Lauren gazed up at him in shock.
“You’re my woman, Lauren. Only mine. Do you know what that means?” Landon asked, his gaze darkening.
slightly as his fingers traced her back.
He enjoyed stroking the nape of her neck, feeling her soft hair and skin. All of it tempted Landon like no other.
Lauren shook her head innocently.
“It means that I’m only going to be with you, no matter what anyone else says.”
“Only you and no one else,” he thought.
Lauren’s breathing caught in her chest as she caught sight of the raw passion in Landon’s eyes. She really adored being together with Landon. But
Landon gently tugged at her when she stopped moving. “What is it, Lauren?”
es were wet
“Can we just go through the back door, Landon?” Lauren asked, nearly begging him. Her eyes with anxious tears. “I’m worried that they’ll make fun of you!”
“Lauren?” Landon asked, confused.
“Please! We we can be together someplace where no one will see us!” Lauren begged, hands pressed.

“I don’t care if they make fun of me, but I don’t want them to do the same to you! Everyone who’s ever been around me since I was a kid has always been laughed at… I won’t let that happen!”
Landon’s eyes widened. A great weight seemed to have settled in his heart. As he gazed at her pale, worried face, pain began radiating through his chest in waves.
All of a sudden, hatred boiled within him.
He hated everyone who had pushed Lauren around before and hated himself for not having come to her side earlier in life. That way, he could have protected her earlier.
“Ah! Let me … let me down!” Lauren cried, her vision shifting suddenly as Landon lifted her up in his arms.
“No.” Landon’s gaze was sharp and steady as he marched out the front entrance. He gritted out, “I want to see just who dares make fun of my woman. I’ll make sure they live to regret it!”
Many of the reporters were still outside the entrance. When they saw Landon walk out with Lauren in his arms, they immediately swarmed him.
“Who are you carrying. Mr. Harper? Is it your new girlfriend? We’ve never seen her before!”
“Jeez, do you not have eyes? Can’t you see this is the Walsh family’s youngest daughter, Lauren Walsh?
“Fuck me! Seriously? I’ve heard of the Walsh family daughter who never shows herself. So this is her? Wow, she’s even prettier than I imagined!”
“That sister of hers, Betty, is always flaunting herself around like she’s some great beauty. But now we know her sister is far more beautiful than her!”
“Tsk…. Mr. Harper’s taste in women really is fine!”
Seeing how chaotic the situation was becoming, Angelina swiftly sent two bodyguards to help create a path for Landon amidst the crowd.
As the camera lights flashed in their faces, Lauren shyly buried her face in Landon’s shirt.
“Don’t worry. I’m right here,” Landon murmured in her ear.
“Okay.”
That simple response made happiness bloom in Landon’s chest.
“Is Ms. Lauren your new girlfriend, Mr. Harper?”
“Mr. Harper, are you two officially dating?”
Excited, the reporters tossed out one question after the other.
All of Solana City knew just how much of a playboy Landon was. However, he had never shown himself in public with any of the other women. Lauren was a first, implying just how significant she was to him.
Landon stopped in his tracks and turned to face the cameras, holding Lauren closer. “That depends on what Ms. Lauren thinks. She can say no, but regardless, I’ve chosen to be with her.”
His words left the crowd stunned.
Landon was reputed to insist on his ways and demands, never caring what other people said before deciding he wanted something.
Yet this time he was treating Lauren with a level of respect he had never given before, setting himself at a weaker level instead.
It was clear as day just how much he doted on Lauren.
The instant those words left his mouth, the crowd went wild.
Angelina ended up using more effort than usual to get Landon and Lauren back safely into the car. It
“Mr. Harper,” Angelina said after some hesitation. “I’ll take care of the news that will break out online later as fast as I can.”
“Why? Have I done something shameful?” Landon quipped, his gaze darkening.
“No, of course not.”
“Do you think I would care about what those lifeless, cruel, social justice-spouting idiots say online? Am I wrong for wanting to be with the woman I like?”
No. Not in the least bit!
Angelina didn’t dare respond to that. She quickly turned back to the wheel.
Lauren was shivering lightly. Her gaze was filled with confusion when she met Landon’s eyes.
“Landon, I-“
“Don’t say a word, Lauren. I made this choice myself. It has nothing to do with you.” Landon tenderly brushed her sweat-drenched hair behind her ear.
