“Sir, you’ve drunk a lot at the event. For your health, it’s better if “
“I feel happier now than when I was celebrating my birthday. Just do what I asked you to. Why the luss?” The old man grumbled as he walked away with Ben’s help.
Those left behind were in a foul mood.
“Javier, you must speak to Jeremy! How could he change his mind when we’ve announced the engagement? This is embarrassing for the Walsh’s!”
Sophia swung Javier’s arm worriedly in the same manner as Liana. “He’ll listen to his dad. How could he give up on the marriage after all these years that Lia walted for him?”
Javier, who doted on his wife, felt Irritated by her pestering. He replied flatly, “Don’t you know Jeremy? He never makes decisions in the heat of the moment. He must have come to that conclusion after careful thought!”
“Jeremy did not even inform us when he decided on the divorce. Of course, he wouldn’t tell me his intention to call off the marriage!”
“Those are different things!” Sophia’s voice was shrill, unlike her usual comforting tone. “Jeremy does not love Alyssa Taylor at all. Unlike Alyssa, Lia is Jeremy’s childhood sweetheart. They have a deep bond!” 1
“Right. That’s beyond me too. If they share a deep bond, what else did Liana want from him? Why couldn’t she behave instead of stirring trouble with Ms. Alyssa?
“She has humiliated our family with the infidelity drama in front of Dad. I will not help her this time, and I can’t guarantee whether the marriage will happen!”
His chest tightened when he recalled Newton’s taunt. “I wouldn’t have advised Jeremy to seek divorce if I had known better. Liana is not the right match for our family; worse, she’s a troublemaker. It’s indeed hard to get along with those from different backgrounds!”
Sophia’s shoulders slumped when she realized that Javier wanted nothing to do with the mess.
She felt as though she was slowly losing what she had been pursuing.
“Aunt Sophia, what do I do?” Liana’s eyes were swollen from all the crying as she panted between sobs.
“Hahaha! You deserved it!” Betty perked up and clapped gleefully. “It’s your karma for using me and manipulating me! You’re a selfish woman who should never dream of marrying Jeremy!” 2
“When did I use and manipulate you?” Wiping her tears away, Liana refuted, “I couldn’t handle the sheer number of quests on my own, so I asked for your help to ensure my plan succeeded on the first try. I never told you to do anything to Mr. Harper¨Cit was you who spiked his drink and made a mess!”
“How dare you pin the blame on me? You shameless bitch! I should have seen you for who you are!
I’m going to fucking rip that mouth of yours!”
“On the count of three, let go of the hair! One, two, three!”
Finally, the two belligerent ladies let go of each other.
“Betty, you leave. I need to talk with Lia.” Sophia frowned.
“Mom, it was Liana who tricked me! I wouldn’t have embarrassed myself had she not tricked me!”
Looking funny in her messy hair, Betty insisted on her victimhood.
“Don’t you think you are to be blamed? I’ve warned you many times not to jump the gun on Mr.
Harper! You threw yourself at him, hoping that he’d take responsibility for sleeping with you.
“That’s not the behavior of a young lady from a distinguished family. He will only look down on you. Now, get back to your room and reflect on your behavior!”
Betty, who had always feared her mom, glared at Liana before leaving. Liana froze on the ground, grappling the hem of her crumpled skirt as a chill traveled down her spine.
Sophia was right. The daughter of a distinguished family would never act in such a tasteless manner. However, Liana felt she had no choice.
Betty had Sophia to help her out, but Liana always had to fight for what she wanted. After all, she was nothing to Sophia except a pawn to keep Jeremy under control.
“Aunt Sophia, about tonight…”
Eyes wide in anger, Sophia slapped Liana across the face without a word.
Liana was baffled by Sophia’s slap.
“I warned you not to drag Betty into any plan of yours, or I won’t help you out!”
“Aunt Sophia, I was wrong! It was a careless mistake! I will not do it again.” Despite the boiling hatred in her, Liana had to beg for forgiveness repeatedly.
Sophia looked at the lowly woman with disdain. She wouldn’t have helped a stubborn and manipulative woman like Liana to marry Jeremy if only there were a better candidate from the
Kirkman Family.
Still, she refused to give up on Liana after many years of grooming her niece. Disgusted by the night’s events, she felt like she had swallowed a fly. Still, she had to endure the setback.
“Allison Burton is the daughter of the distinguished Taylor family. You cannot lay a finger on her.
Winston Taylor is known for doting on his children. Your top priority is to win Jeremy’s heart and marry him according to the plan!” Sophia looked terrifying with her taut lips and the bright red lipstick.
“But he makes it clear that he’s breaking up with me! Just like what Javier said, no one can change Jeremy’s mind!” Liana started sobbing at the thought of her crushed dreams.
“He hasn’t broken up with you yet!” With a conniving look, Sophia grabbed Liana’s shoulders. “Lia, do not reach out to Jeremy these few days. It’s best if you could stay at home and meet no one. You must pretend that you are in shock!”
“W¨CWill that work?” Liana was doubtful..
“You need to sacrifice to get what you want. Lia, you’ll have to suffer a bit for what’s coming next, but listen to me¨Cyou’ll only win his heart when you remind him of his fondest memory of you!”
Jeremy spent the night smoking in his study. His deep eyes and grim face were shrouded in the smoke.
He lost sleep when he thought of Alyssa’s reminder to meet at the city hall at 9:00 am
On the other hand, Sean and Winston ushered Alyssa back to her villa in Solana City after visiting
Jonah in the hospital. She had an appointment at the city hall the next morning, so she convinced
After removing her makeup, applying skincare, and enjoying supper, she drifted to sleep with an eye mask on.
Alyssa was bone tired after all the events that had happened on Newton’s birthday. She woke up at 8:00 am, leaving no time for her morning rowing session.
“Oh, my goodness! Why didn’t you wake me up earlier? I might have slept past the alarm. You could at least help me out here!” She frowned while putting on her tassel earrings as she made her way down the stairs.
Sean rushed to Alyssa in his apron and gaped at her radiant bare face. He’d never tire of her look, even though he met her on a daily basis.
“I didn’t wake you up because I wanted you to rest more after what happened last night.”
“That won’t work! I’m getting a divorce today!” She pouted. “I’m very particular with being on time.
If I show up late, that arrogant twat might think I’m dragging my feet because I couldn’t bring myself to leave him!”
“The day has finally arrived. Congratulations,” Sean chirped with genuine excitement.
“Right? See, I even put on a colorful dress. Don’t I look festive?” She twirled in delight to show off her dress. At first, Sean thought she’d be upset on the big day, but he seemed to have worried for nothing.
“Ms. Alyssa, have some breakfast before we leave.”
“We don’t have time! Pack it for me. I’ll eat in the car.”
To make the trip a comfortable one, Sean chose to drive a Rolls¨CRoyce instead of a luxury sportscar.
Alyssa held a sandwich in her mouth in the backseat as she typed furiously away on her laptop, busy at work.
“Our team has been proactively reaching out to Ada Kingsley over the last few days, but she’s being difficult. She does not entertain the staff from KS Group at all!” Sean complained while driving “Our team has only gotten in touch twice with Ada’s agent. We haven’t met her in person until now!”
“How about the Walsh Group?” Alyssa asked.
“I heard they didn’t make any progress too.”
“It’s good to know that we haven’t fallen behind. We’re still on the starting line just like they are.”
“But we have more competitors than the Walsh Group! I heard that ten luxury hotels across the nation are fighting to host Ada Kingsley’s wedding!”
“The Walsh Group and the Taylor Group are the benchmark for hotels in the nation. Ada
Kingsley is too fussy to host her wedding in smaller hotels.” She took a bite of the sandwich and squinted.
She continued, “Keep in touch with her team. I want to move her with sincerity. She has an event in the country at the start of next month, where I’ll meet her in person and secure the deal. Time for the Walsh Group to give up!”
Whoever messed with her business deals would have to suffer.
