Yes, it was easy.
Although she had already been staying here at Gilbert’s for some time, Marigold didn’t think she had done much, which was why she thought it was easy.
“But don’t celebrate just yet. I know him. Even if he does like you, he won’t be able to tell just yet. He won’t be able to reciprocate your feelings. You need to keep it up.” Danika was afraid that Marigold would give up. She was only preparing her.
When Danika put it like that, Marigold understood Gilbert’s reaction. She wanted to laugh. “Alright. Don’t worry. I won’t give up just yet.’
She would not give up. She hadn’t given up even when Gilbert absolutely hated her. And now that she was seeing progress, all of her efforts would be wasted if she gave up now.
After the phone call with Danika, Marigold felt much better. She went upstairs, showered, then slept soundly in her bed. She was not in a hurry. Since there was progress, she felt much calmer.
She slept very well that night, but Gilbert hadn’t.
Because of Marigold’s kiss, he had a dream once more. It wasn’t as outlandish as before, but this time, he dreamt that he and Marigold were having their wedding.
This was madness.
A wedding!
Was he really going to marry her?
Meanwhile, Esther returned to the Bradshaws. When Octavius Crawley saw her, he hurriedly asked, “How was it? Did he agree to come back?”
Octavius’ voice was subdued. He was respectful towards Esther. Although they were husband and wife, their interactions seemed more akin to a superior and an employee.
It couldn’t be helped. This was how it was destined to be ever since the day he married her.
“Come back? He told me to fuck off!”Esther was still furious when she thought of Gilbert’s attitude toward her. She had gone to see him with utmost sincerity. Gilbert should not have refused her. It wasn’t her fault that Gilbert had gone lost, and she had been looking everywhere for him. Why was he so resistant toward her?
She felt upset when she thought of this. “Get someone to investigate the Wilkins. I want to see how they raise children!”
The Wilkins were Danika’s grandfather’s family in Orchid Village.
Esther felt that Horace Wilkins had not brought them up properly, which was why he would reject his own parents.
“Don’t be too anxious. He didn’t have his parents around for so long. He must be angry at us. He wouldn’t be able to understand or accept it so quickly.” Octavius thought it was a pity, but he wasn’t angry.
Esther glanced at him, upset. “Of course you’re not upset. The Bradshaws’ inheritance has nothing to do with you, but what about me? Look at Eli! Do you think he can inherit the Bradshaws? I’m anxious to get Gilbert because I want him to take over the Bradshaws.”
Eli was her second child. After Gilbert went missing, Esther placed all of her efforts on him. However, she was not reaping any rewards for all her hard work. Eli only knew how to enjoy the pleasures of life. He wasn’t at all like a suitable heir. It was why she was so anxious.
Hence, she increased her efforts in looking for Gilbert, and she finally found him. However, she did not expect him to refuse her in such a crass way. There was no room for negotiations at all. She was upset, but there didn’t seem to be another choice.
Octavius’ eyes dimmed, saying nothing. He had no right to speak in this house.
Both of them had not noticed a movement on the second floor. Eli, who was prepared to go downstairs, had frozen in place. His face was terrifyingly dark.
Let Gilbert take over the Bradshaws?
Was he going to inherit the Bradshaws even after so many years of absence?
What was the point of Eli’s actions back then if that happened? At this thought, his eyes flashed dangerously.
After the party, Gilbert and Marigold’s relationship evolved to an awkward phase. They were no longer as cold as before, yet they were not close, either. It was an uncomfortable feeling.
They both knew what the problem was. However, neither seemed to want to solve it.
It was Marigold’s first time in Hawthorn Inc. “Hello. I’m here to see Mr. Hawthorn,” Marigold said softly at the front desk. There was a warm lunchbox in her hands. She’d come here to bring dinner to Gilbert.
The employee didn’t recognize Marigold, but she thought she looked familiar. However, she didn’t intend to let her in. “Do you have an appointment?”
“An appointment? I don’t.” She shook her head. She didn’t know that she needed an appointment to see Gilbert.
When the employee heard that she didn’t have an appointment, she thought of her as yet another one of Gilbert’s fans. “I’m sorry. I can’t let you in without an appointment.”
Although Hawthorn Inc was still not at the level of the Ten Elites, it was advancing well in Bardoff City. Gilbert was considered a new tycoon, and the women who came after him were aplenty. Hence, Gilbert had issued an order forbidding them from going up to see him. The employee at the front desk had to be alert.
Marigold did not make things difficult for the employee. She took out her phone and chose to call Gilbert. She was anxious because she didn’t know if he would pickup.
Thankfully, he picked up after a few rings.
“Is there something you need?” Gilbert was still indifferent, as usual.
Marigold didn’t think there was much of a problem. She was used to it anyway. She looked at the employee’s curious gaze and said, “I’m downstairs at your company. Can you let me up?”
“You’re here?” Gilbert thought it was weird. Marigold had never come to his company before.
“Yes. I have something for you.” Marigold blushed in embarrassment.
Naturally, Gilbert couldn’t see her blush over the phone. When he heard that, he said, “Alright, I’ll get someone to fetch you.”
The call ended.
The employee looked perplexed. ‘What is your relationship with our president?” She was worried that she had offended something she shouldn’t have. How could she know that Marigold would be connected to Gilbert? She felt like a victim. She could only hope that Marigold wouldn’t hold a grudge. If she merely whispered in Gilbert’s ear, she would be fired.
“Nothing much. You don’t have to worry.” The employee had done nothing wrong. Furthermore, Marigold was not the type to tell tales.
The employee heaved a sigh of relief. Marigold didn’t look like the type to tell tales.
Soon, Greg, his assistant, came downstairs. He recognized Marigold and went straight to her. “Follow me, Miss Wagner.”
“Alright. Thank you,” Marigold said in embarrassment.
“It’s not a problem.’ Greg hoped that Gilbert would have a woman by his side. That way, he wouldn’t need to worry so much.
They walked into the elevator. It was then that Greg noticed the lunchbox in Marigold’s hands. He was stunned. “Are you…bringing him dinner?”
“Yeah. I noticed he frequently doesn’t eat dinner.” Marigold nodded, then asked, ‘ Are things busy at the company? Why doesn’t he eat?”
“He’s used to it. I always remind him to, but he never listens to me.” Greg was exasperated. He thought it was unsustainable for Gilbert to keep on like this, but he had no choice. He wasn’t expecting Marigold to come by with food.
She’d never done it before. And now she was suddenly making him dinner. Did this mean that they were moving forward with their relationship?
Marigold didn’t know what the assistant was thinking. If she did, she might have blushed again. Her relationship with Gilbert wasn’t exactly evolving.
After their kiss, things grew a little warmer between them. Although no one had pointed it out yet, Marigold felt that Gilbert might have some feelings for her. At least, things were different from before. However, she was too afraid to confront him about it.
She could wait it out. As Danika said, Marigold would be nice to him and let him get used to having her around. She cheered herself on inwardly. Then, when the elevator sounded, she grew anxious again.
As long as she was in front of Gilbert, she would grow nervous.
“Miss Wagner, Mr. Hawthorn is in the office. You can open the door and go in.” Greg brought her to the door, not intending to go in. He didn’t want to get in their way.
Marigold nodded and smiled at him. “Alright. Thank you.”
Greg was dazed by her smile. He hadn’t recovered even after Marigold had gone in.
How could his president not fall for such a beautiful woman?
Greg was deep in thought. He obviously couldn’t understand it.
Marigold pushed the door open and saw the busy man behind the desk.
Gilbert didn’t raise his head. When the door opened, he thought it was Greg. “Get me the financial reports from March.”
After giving out his order, he busied himself again.
There were sounds of someone sifting through the desk. Unfortunately, Marigold didn’t know where the March report was. Hence, the sound of her shuffling was disruptive.
Gilbert raised his head, about to chide his assistant. He saw that it was Marigold who was shuffling through the documents. “It’s you.”
“I’m sorry. I just wanted to help.” What a pity it was that she just didn’t know where the report was.
Gilbert wasn’t mad, either. He shut the documents in his hands and asked,” It’s fine. What are you here for?”
“I…” Marigold was nervous being looked at by him. “Have you eaten?”
Gilbert frowned. He wasn’t expecting this from her. “No,” he answered.
For some reason, Marigold smiled. “I brought you dinner. Have some before you work again.”
Then, she took out the lunchbox she had brought. The food was exquisite, and they were all Gilbert’s favorites. It was obvious she had put a lot of thought into it. Seeing her take the food out, Gilbert felt satisfied for some reason.
“Eat.” Marigold handed him a fork and stood next to him.
They held their gazes for a moment before Gilbert said, “Did you come here just to bring me dinner?”
“Yes. It’s not good for you to skip dinner every day.” It was terrible, in fact.
Gilbert didn’t think much of it. When he got busy, he would not feel hungry. And when he got home, it was already late at night. He would sleep after washing up, and once he slept, he wouldn’t feel hungry either.
However, he was moved when he saw the food before him.
“Thank you,” he said after a moment.
No matter what, he was happy.
When Marigold heard him thank her, she was stunned and pleased. She was worried that Gilbert would refuse her kindness. Now it seemed that things weren’t as bad as she thought.
