“Please have a seat, Dr. Zellweger.” The director was very polite toward her, which made Danika feel uneasy. However, she didn’t pay much attention to it as she understood why he acted that way.
After she sat down, the director got straight to the point and said, “Dr. Zellweger, there’s a hospital abroad inviting us for a conference. The neurosurgery department has selected you as the representative. What do you think?”
It was a good opportunity for Danika. She didn’t need to do much, and it was an excellent chance for her to broaden her horizons and meet new people on behalf of the neurosurgery department.
“But…my wedding is coming up soon.” She knew it was a good opportunity, but considering the wedding, her first thought was to decline the offer.
Understanding her concern, the director quickly reassured her, “Don’t worry, the conference will last about a week. It will be over before it affects your wedding.’
“When do I leave?” Danika asked.
“Tomorrow,” the director replied.
Leaving the next day and returning within a week wouldn’t have much impact. Hence, she decided to agree. “Alright, I’ll go.’
The director smiled, happy with her response.
After returning to her office, Danika called Eustace and informed him about it. Eustace didn’t have any objections; he was just a bit concerned about Danika.
“There’s quite a bit of work over here lately, so I may not be able to accompany you,” he said. Lately, he had been busy optimizing the company’s operations to free up time for their honeymoon. Nonetheless, he was worried about not being able to accompany Danika.
Danika didn’t see it as a big deal and said, “I’m not a child. I don’t need you to accompany me everywhere I go. I’m just informing you about this, not asking you to come with me.”
“You may not be a child, but I want to pamper you like you are one,” Eustace replied. Danika fell silent. Imagining her expression, Eustace laughed. “Fine, okay, we’ll talk about it when I get home tonight,” he said.
With that, the call ended. Danika put away her phone and busied herself with work just as Eustace did. After all, they both had their own things to take care of.
When Eustace returned home in the evening, he found Danika in the kitchen.
“Danika, are you cooking for me?” He couldn’t believe his eyes and even felt a bit nervous. He wasn’t confident in her cooking skills.
Danika was in the middle of preparing the ingredients. Turning around, she answered, “I’ve already prepared the ingredients for you. You’re in charge of cooking.” She didn’t have much talent when it came to cooking. To be exact, she was a complete mess when it came to cooking.
“Okay, whatever you say,” Eustace said, walking into the kitchen. He hugged Danika from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder. ‘Danika, you smell amazing.”
Eustace was reluctant to let go. Blushing, Danika turned around and returned his hug.
“Let’s eat first.”
“But I want to taste you first.”
Just like that, Danika was lifted off the ground as Eustace carried her straight to the bedroom.
An hour later, Danika collapsed on the bed. Looking at the man beside her, she grumbled, “It’s all your fault! I haven’t had dinner because of you.” “Don’t be angry. I’ll go make your dinner now.”
With that, Eustace climbed out of bed, put on his clothes, and went downstairs to the kitchen.
Although Danika had scolded him, she didn’t really blame him. She just felt a little embarrassed as she never expected she would someday live such an intimate life with Eustace.
After staying in the room for a while, she took a shower before going to the kitchen downstairs, where Eustace had begun to cook. Seeing his skilled movements, it was hard to imagine that he had just been messing around with her in bed.
“Just wait a little longer. The food is almost ready.”
Fortunately, Danika had already prepared the ingredients, making everything faster as he only needed to cook them. Danika leaned against the kitchen doorway, watching Eustace cook, thoroughly enjoying the moment.
About ten minutes later, he was done cooking and placed the food on the table, inviting Danika to come and eat. As usual, the food tasted amazing.
“If Quincey Group goes bankrupt in the future, you can start a restaurant. That way, we won’t go hungry.”
“Well, it would be quite difficult for Quincey Group to go bankrupt,” Eustace said, chuckling. Saying that was him being humble. The truth was, it was almost impossible for Quincey Group to go bankrupt under his control.
Danika could see the confidence in his eyes, and she didn’t find anything wrong with it. Eustace had always been confident.
“How long will you be away on your business trip?” Eustace asked, sounding a little reluctant to let her go.
After taking a bite, Danika answered, “One week.”
“Well, it won’t affect the wedding.” Eustace felt that a week wasn’t too long.
Danika nodded. “Yes, I made sure of that. If it were too long, I wouldn’t go.”
“Okay, how many people from your hospital are going?” Eustace asked. Evidently, he was still worried.
Danika thought for a moment before replying, “Probably one representative from each department.”
“Has everything been arranged for you?” Although he technically owned Bardoff Hospital, he didn’t manage the internal affairs and hadn’t even inquired about it.
Danika hadn’t asked about that. “I think so. I doubt we need to worry about such things.” In her opinion, Eustace was worried over nothing. Surely, the hospital would take care of everything.
Hearing her reply, Eustace didn’t ask any more questions. “Alright, take care of yourself. Call me if you need anything.”
Even if she was abroad, he would rush over at the first opportunity.
“Sure, don’t worry,” Danika answered. She didn’t refuse Eustace’s goodwill.
After dinner, the two of them messed around in bed again before finally falling asleep.
The plane took off at 9 am the next morning. Eustace accompanied Danika to the airport, where she boarded the plane and disappeared from his sight. A moment later, he took out his phone and made a call.
“We can start moving now.”
Danika had no idea that a huge surprise awaited her when she returned from overseas. Meanwhile, Eustace had no idea that due to his mistake, the surprise would turn into a shock that almost impacted their wedding.
After the phone call, Eustace left the airport. He had many things to attend to at Quincey Group. There were still many things to do for the wedding, and organizing a wedding was far from being as simple as he had imagined. However, he savored every moment of it.
Ten hours later, the plane landed at the airport in Eldezar. As Danika walked out of the airport, she immediately called Eustace to let him know she had arrived safely. After hanging up, Danika followed the other hospital staff to the hotel. After a brief rest, she started busying herself with preparations for the conference the next day.
Eustace was busy too. The villa they had been staying in had already been emptied. At that moment, he was looking at a new house in front of him with a smile. That happened to be his and Danika’s new home.
He had bought the previous villa because Evan was living there. Since it was far from Danika’s hospital and Quincey Group’s headquarters, Eustace had long wanted to move out. Moreover, Evan was already a thing of the past, and there was no need for Eustace to continue living there because of him.
He watched the new house slowly fill up with his and Danika’s belongings. Aside from the location, it seemed that not much else had changed. Of course, it wasn’t completely the same as their previous house. Portraits of both of them were hung everywhere, and anyone could tell it was the house of a newly wedded couple.
While he was admiring the decorations, his phone rang. Seeing that it was an unfamiliar number, Eustace rejected the call. Then, he received a text message. As he read it, his face instantly darkened. The happiness from appreciating the decoration in front of him was completely wiped from his face. After a moment, he walked out of the house with his phone and called the unknown number.
During the conference, Danika was quite busy. Regardless of how busy she was, she would still call Eustace every day. Eustace, on the other hand, seemed busy, too, as he always ended the call quickly.
Danika didn’t pay much attention to it. She knew Eustace was busy preparing for the wedding, so she assumed he must be swamped.
Thinking about the wedding, she felt a little guilty. After all, Eustace was taking care of all the wedding preparations while she lived a carefree life. Hence, she decided to return to Clusia earlier and surprise Eustace.
Although Danika was supposed to take the flight back home the next day, she wanted to surprise Eustace, so she boarded an earlier flight back to Clusia.
Meanwhile, Eustace was unaware of that. Almost all the wedding preparations were done, including the wedding gown and the rings, which had already been delivered. All they had to do was to wait for the day to come.
Vincent knocked on the door and came in, looking uneasy. “Mr. Quincey, Miss Blue is downstairs. She wants to see you.”
“What is she doing here again?” Eustace felt irritated whenever he heard Quinn’s name. He had done what he could for her. What else did she expect him to do?
“I don’t know, she just said she has something to discuss with you,” Vincent said.
Eustace frowned. Considering that Danika would return soon, he decided, “Let her in.”
Before Danika came back, he had to deal with Quinn so that she would stop seeking him out all the time. There was nothing between them. He had no feelings for her now, and he was bewildered when he received her call.
Given their past connection, Eustace had agreed to help her when she had come to him for help. However, he never expected that helping her once wouldn’t be enough, and now she was back again. Eustace wanted to find out what she was up to. She’d better explain everything to avoid any trouble in the future.
Although she was in her late twenties, Quinn maintained her excellent figure. Donning a seductive fishtail skirt, she slowly approached Eustace.”Eustace, even if you don’t like me anymore, there’s no need to avoid me.”
“Avoiding you? I’m busy,” Eustace said, glancing at her without a trace of emotion in his eyes. To him, Quinn was just someone he used to know, not someone he was ever close with.
“Are you really that busy? You seem quite free to me,” Quinn lightly laughed, covering her mouth. She made herself at home and took a seat on the sofa.
Eustace was in no mood to waste time with her. “Why did you come?”
“It’s about the thing I was telling you about,” Quinn said.
“I can’t help you with that,” Eustace said, refusing her outright. “Take care of your own matters. I’m just an acquaintance, not your father.”
“Eustace, are you afraid your wife would get jealous if you got too close to me? ” Quinn asked, laughing as if she was mocking Eustace for being henpecked.
Eustace didn’t think that was anything to be ashamed about. Hence, he didn’t deny it. “Since you know it, you shouldn’t have come here. If it makes Danika angry, you can’t ever make up for it, no matter how hard you try.”
“Eustace, how can you be so heartless? You used to like me,” Quinn said, pretending to be hurt. When he used to like her, he had never protected her like that.
With no regard for what she had to say, Eustace said, “You said it yourself.
That was in the past. It’s been many years, and it’s over.”
“Alright, let’s not talk about the past. But I really need your help.” Quinn stopped smiling. If Eustace didn’t help her, she had no other way.
Eustace felt a headache coming on. “How do you want me to help you?”
“Help me out with that man. I’ve been by his side for so many years-l should do something about him,” Quinn said, examining her pretty nails while speaking to Eustace.
Eustace was speechless. “What do you want to do?”
“Well, I want him to marry me. At this age, I can’t continue being with him without getting married.”
