Danika was surprised. She sat up at once. “Gilbert, why are you suddenly so concerned about her?”
After he gave her that paycheck, they cut off all ties. Danika thought Gilbert was truly that cold and never brought up Marigold to him again. But now, he was asking about her on his own.
Maybe Gilbert thought his actions were weird, too. When Danika asked him that question, he didn’t know what to say. “I’m just asking.’
Just asking? Danika didn’t believe it.
“Have you seen Marigold?” Danika asked, guessing. Gilbert probably wouldn’t have asked the question if he hadn’t seen her.
Gilbert said nothing, and Danika had her answer.
“Well, I haven’t seen her recently. On top of that, no.velxo if she goes straight to the maternity department, I won’t see her,” Danika answered.
Marigold had gone to see her because of n脴velxo a headache before. Other than that, Danika knew nothing about what she did.
At the thought of her headache, Danika grew worried. “She came to me before saying that she had a headache. I wanted to check on her, no.velxo but she was worried that it would affect her child, so she ended up not doing anything. I don’t know what she’s like now.”
“Headache?” Gilbert frowned. He sounded worried.
“Yeah. I don’t know what it really was, but she was too concerned about her child to risk anything.” Danika couldn’t see Gilbert’s expression and didn’t know what his reaction was like.
Gilbert said nothing. After exchanging a couple more words, he hung up.
Danika looked at her phone, feeling worried. Could something have happened?
While she was deep in thought, footsteps sounded from outside the bedroom. Eustace walked in. “Who were you calling?”
“Gilbert,” Danika said. She put her phone away, reassuring herself. “Are you done sketching?”
“No. Design requires inspiration.” He was pretty much done with the gown, but the ring was leaving him stumped.
He’d given Danika too many rings. Each of them were designed by industry professionals. Compared to them, Eustace was nothing. Obviously, he was worried if Danika would like his design.
Danika knew of his worries and smiled. no.velxo “There’s no rush. Just rest. We need to board the plane to Parrington tomorrow. Maybe you’ll be inspired over there.”
They found each other in Parrington. There was a high chance that he would be inspired.
“That’s true. We should sleep now.” Eustace walked toward her.
Danika hurriedly took a few steps back. “What are you doing? Your room is next door.”
“We’re about to marry, Danika. We don’t have to sleep separately, do we?” And even if they slept separately, they frequently messed around in bed. Sleeping separately didn’t really mean anything.
Whatever You Say
That was true, but Danika still wanted him to sleep in his own room. “We’ll be able to sleep together in the future. We should keep our distance now and enjoy whatever little time we have to ourselves.”
“Fine. Whatever you say.” Eustace didn’t force it. He already guessed that Danika wouldn’t agree to it. He walked out. “Goodnight.”
“Goodnight,” Danika said, waving to him as if shooing him away.
With a thud, Eustace’s door shut.
Danika smiled and lay down, falling asleep quickly.
On the other side of town, after Gilbert ended the call with Danika, he went straight home.
Danika had been right. He’d seen Marigold today. no.velxo He was in his car and had seen Marigold come out of the supermarket. She was carrying her groceries with what looked like a great deal of effort.
He’d nearly wanted to go up to help her, but reason held him back. He couldn’t go up to her. He had to stay far, far away from her. However, the more he watched, the more he realized that something was wrong with Marigold. She seemed thinner. Pregnant women often gained weight, but Marigold didn’t.
In fact, she was much thinner. She looked like she could be blown away by the wind.
What had happened to her?
Gilbert watched her walk away. In the end, he followed behind in his car, right until he reached her home.
It was just a tiny house. no.velxo It was not what Gilbert was expecting.
Logically speaking, Paul wouldn’t abandon Marigold. Gilbert’s money was enough to let Marigold live a luxurious life. Why was she living here?
On top of that, her belly was already so big. Why was she shopping alone? Didn’t she hire a maid?
His car was parked outside the house for a long time, but in the end, he left.
Back home, Marigold’s frail figure haunted his mind. He called Danika because he was so worried. However, he had not received any useful information. It was then that he got up to find her.
Although he had given her his money nov毛lxo and felt nothing toward the woman, Gilbert felt there was no harm in caring for her a little, regardless of whether that child was his.
He didn’t realize that while he refused to admit that the child in her belly was his, he was now sure of it.
He quickly reached her home. It was then that he snapped out of his trance. “What am I doing? What does she have to do with me?”
He must have been tired recently. That was why the sight of Marigold would affect him.
At that thought, he revved up the engine and prepared to leave.
However, Marigold walked out right this instant. She was holding a trash bag in her hands and walking to the communal trash can. Gilbert frowned once more.
What sort of an area was this? Wasn’t there a janitor around?
Based on this fact alone, he could tell that the house Marigold lived in was not a good one.
She was so rich. She could easily live a better life. Why did she want to live here?
With all these questions in mind, nov毛lxo Gilbert got down the car and walked up to Marigold.
“Gilbert?” Marigold was in disbelief when she saw him. She rubbed her eyes, suspecting that she was hallucinating.
However, no matter how much she rubbed her eyes, Gilbert was still there.
I Don’t Need Your Help!
“Why are you living here?” Gilbert asked, frowning.
When Marigold heard his familiar voice, she knew for sure that she wasn’t hallucinating. Her first instinct wasn’t joy but rather fear. She stepped back at once and looked at him warily.
“Why are you here? What do you want?” Her reaction was loud.
Gilbert wasn’t expecting that.
“I was passing by.”
Passing by? Marigold didn’t believe it.She was far from the city center.
Gilbert’s activities would never lead him here.
“You haven’t answered my question.I gave you all that money. Why are you living here?” Gilbert asked.
His eyebrows were tightly knitted.
Marigold took a deep breath, maintaining some distance from him.
Then, she replied, “Since you’ve given me the money, I can live wherever I want.Do I need your permission for that?”
“That’s not what I mean.I just think that you can afford to live somewhere better.”
Gilbert looked at her, not understanding why Marigold hated him so much.
Although he’d wanted her to abort the baby, he hadn’t dragged her to the hospital and forced one on her.
Besides, they had come to an agreement. He couldn’t do anything to her now.
Marigold didn’t know what he was thinking. She just thought that his words were hilarious.
“Do I need to tell you where I live?”
“It’s not like that.I was just worried about you,” he said.
“Worried about me?”
It was as if Marigold had heard the world’s funniest joke.
“Gilbert, we’ve already decided to have nothing to do with each other. You shouldn’t even be appearing in front of me.” Gilbert paled. He thought that he was a joke, too.
“I’m sorry for bothering you.I’m going to leave now.”
“Good.”
Marigold was happy to see him go.Gilbert walked away, but before he could reach his car, he paused in his footsteps. He looked back at her.
“You don’t look very well.Is this too hard on you?”
Marigold was pale, and she was as thin as a reed.If not for her large bump, no one would be able to tell that she was pregnant.
“I don’t need your help!” Marigold was angry.
Gilbert sighed.
