Filed to story: The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion
The maid was still doubtful, but seeing Stephanie’s calm demeanor, she didn’t dare to offend her and reported her presence to her employer.
Soon, the maid came out again with a smile on her face. “Miss Zelliot, please come in. Mr. Wagner is waiting for you in the living room.”
Stephanie went in, ignoring her gaze, and proceeded straight to the living room.
Paul was sitting on a chair in the living room. When he saw her come in, there was a hint of excitement in his eyes, but he quickly concealed it.” What now? Do you regret leaving me?”
Stephanie didn’t say a word. She walked straight toward Paul and stood in front of him.
“It’s not that easy to come back to me. Let me tell you-“
A loud smack reverberated through the room, and Paul’s words became stuck in his throat. He couldn’t believe that Stephanie had hit him!
“Stephanie!” The next second, he was furious. He grabbed Stephanie by the neck and pinned her against the wall.
Stephanie didn’t plead for mercy but looked at him frostily. “Where is Leonard?”
Paul, who was already furious, became even more enraged when he heard that. ‘Why did you come to me to find him? Stephanie, is there something wrong with your brain?”
“Paul, I know you’re unhappy, but that’s between you and me. It has nothing to do with Leonard. Let him go, and I promise to do whatever you want,” Stephanie iterated calmly, devoid of any anger.
Paul frowned and quickly guessed the truth from Stephanie’s words.
“Why do you think his disappearance has anything to do with me?” Paul was angry and felt a little aggrieved. He’d threatened to take action against Leonard, but he hadn’t actually done anything. Now, it seemed that even if he didn’t do anything, Stephanie would still think it was him who caused Leonard’s disappearance.
Stephanie sneered and asked, “Who else could it be if not you? Paul, what kind of person are you? Do I need to say it out loud?”
“What kind of person am I?” Paul laughed. “Tell me, please. What kind of person am I?”
Stephanie glanced at him, her thin lips parting slightly. “Arrogant, heartless, and despicable.”
She described him with three words, and none of them were flattering. It was enough to show how much Stephanie despised him.
Paul laughed at her description of him. He knew that Stephanie no longer liked him, but he didn’t expect she would view him in such a way. ‘ Stephanie, oh Stephanie, you really know how to stab me in the heart,” Paul lamented inwardly.
“Where is Leonard?” Stephanie asked again. She only cared about Leonard’s safety now.
Paul didn’t bother to defend himself; it had never been his style to explain himself and his actions. “Why do you care about him so much? Have you fallen in love with him?”
I Wish You’d Die!
Stephanie locked eyes with Paul and declared word by word, “Yes! I have fallen in love with him!” “Shut up!” Paul seemed to be greatly agitated, and his eyes instantly became bloodshot.
But Stephanie just smiled. “What’s wrong? Are you afraid to hear what I have to say? Are you afraid to hear me say that I love him, or are you afraid to hear me say that I don’t love you?”
“Stephanie!” Paul felt like he was going crazy. Stephanie was deliberately provoking him, and he should kill her for it. But…he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
Stephanie seemed to be unaware of his pain and repeated, “Where is Leonard? Paul, if anything happens to him, I won’t spare you even if I die.”
“Really? Unfortunately, you’re too late.” Paul sneered, releasing his grip on Stephanie’s neck. It seemed as if he’d figured out a solution.
Stephanie turned pale and couldn’t believe her ears. “What do you mean?”
“What I mean is that Sullivan should be dead by now. He has probably been thrown into the sea to feed the fish,” Paul said.
Stephanie’s face was ghastly pale. Trembling violently, she almost toppled over.
Paul wanted to go over and offer her some support, but in the end, he didn’t do so. “Do you really love him that much?” he wondered aggrievedly.
“Dead?” Stephanie questioned feebly in her mind. This was what she feared the most before coming over. But now, Paul bluntly told her something so cruel without caring whether she could take it.
“He’s so cruel; he’s so unbelievably cruel. I finally escaped him and decided to start over, but why wouldn’t he let me go?” Stephanie thought in anguish.
She looked at Paul with reddened eyes and had a very unsettling expression on her face-it was something like a smile but not quite a smile. “Didn’t you want to torture me? Why don’t you come after me? Drive me to my death if you can. But why do you have to hurt innocent people?”
As she said that, she rushed toward Paul and hit him mercilessly. Unfortunately, her strength was too weak, and for Paul, it merely ticked like a feather.
“Since I want to torture you, of course, I have to go after the people you care about,” Paul stated coldly, staring at her. “You care about Leonard, so I want him dead.” He paused for a bit. Then, he exclaimed with a sneer,” You want to start over? In your dreams!”
At that moment, he was like a devil from hell, holding onto Stephanie tightly and not wanting her to leave the abyss.
Stephanie cried loudly, crying for herself and also for Leonard. She cried so much that Paul was heartbroken.
“Stephanie, as long as you promise to stay by my side, I will treat you well in the future, and this kind of thing won’t happen again.”
After saying that, he went forward and hugged Stephanie. All of this was just to make Stephanie return to his side. Unfortunately, he didn’t understand the hatred Stephanie felt for him at that moment.
Therefore, when Stephanie plunged a knife into his chest, Paul was not only shocked; he was also incredibly sad. He fell to the floor and looked up at Stephanie, unable to get over his shock. He could no longer smile. “Do you really hate me that much?”
“Yes! I wish you’d die!”
If Paul died, she wouldn’t have to suffer like this, and Leonard wouldn’t get into trouble. Stephanie regretted not ending things sooner. She should have ended his life or died trying way before other innocent people got hurt.
Paul looked at the knife still lodged in his chest, his eyes completely bloodshot. “If you want me dead that badly, come over and exert more force. Stab the knife into my heart. I won’t die from this!”
“Don’t think I won’t do it!” Stephanie glared at him fiercely.
Stephanie had never been violent. She’d never slaughtered even an animal, not to mention a person. She’d mustered all her strength to stab Paul earlier.
Giving You a Chance
“Do you dare to do it? Come on! What’re you waiting for?’ Paul looked at her and urged, “I killed Leonard, and if you want to avenge him, today’s your only chance.’
Stephanie gritted her teeth and walked up to him again. Holding the knife tightly, she warned, ‘Don’t force me!’
“Am I forcing you? I’m giving you a chance. Haven’t you always wanted to be free? Now is your chance.” Paul looked at her without any intention of dodging her blow.
He thought that maybe it would be good to die in her hands like this. The harm he’d caused her would ultimately dissipate with his death. In the next life, he would come back to find her and treat her well.
Stephanie held the knife, knowing that if she continued to push the knife into him, Paul would really die. She hated him so very much, but now, she couldn’t do it. She despised herself; she hated herself, but it was meaningless.
After a long time, she finally let go of the knife and looked at him coldly. ‘I hate you, but I won’t become like you. I’ll find the evidence to give you the punishment you deserve.”
If she killed Paul that day, with Danika’s influence and connections, she would be able to walk away unscathed. But then, she wouldn’t be any different from Paul if she did that. She thought that Leonard wouldn’t want her to become someone like that. A righteous person like him would want her to punish Paul through legal means.
Stephanie left, but Paul was still lying on the ground. He looked at the ceiling and laughed as tears flowed from his eyes uncontrollably.
Perhaps he had really lost her completely.
At night, Danika and Eustace had just come out of the police station when Eustace received a call informing him that something had happened to Paul.
“Danika, Stephanie went to find Paul,” Eustace said.
Upon hearing that, Danika instantly knew why Stephanie had been so calm before. She probably thought that Leonard’s incident was related to Paul, so she went to find him.
“We should hurry over there. If we’re late, who knows what might happen,’ Danika expressed her concern, thinking of Stephanie’s calmness earlier and feeling uneasy inside.
Eustace glanced at her and said, “Well, something has already happened. Stephanie stabbed Paul, and he’s already been sent to the hospital.”
Danika was stunned and couldn’t believe it. “Steph…”
“Let’s go to the hospital first,” Eustace suggested. He didn’t know what else to say.
Danika didn’t say much and followed Eustace to the hospital. In the hospital ward, Paul didn’t seem to have any major problems, but he was in a bad mood. After they entered, he didn’t speak or even look at them.
Eustace was worried and approached him while asking, “Are you okay?’
“I’m fine.” Paul snapped out of his trance and smiled at Eustace. But this smile was so forced and ugly that he was better off crying.
“What happened exactly? How could Stephanie suddenly…” Eustace didn’t finish his sentence. He saw Paul’s face turn even paler; Stephanie’s name was obviously too much for him to bear at the moment.
After a while, Paul finally recovered from his daze. “What could it be? She probably thinks I’m the one responsible for Leonard’s disappearance.”
“Did you do it?” It was Danika who asked the question. In fact, she also suspected it was him.
Paul glanced at her but didn’t answer. Instead, he looked at Eustace and asked, “What do you think?”
Eustace’s face darkened. He looked at Danika and said, “It’s not him. I know he didn’t do it.”
Danika pursed her lips. She didn’t believe what Paul said, but she trusted Eustace’s words.
“Since it’s not you, you should talk to her and clear things up. How did it get so out of hand?” Even though Danika wasn’t present at the scene, judging from Paul’s injuries, they must have had a serious quarrel.
What’s There to Explain?
Paul snorted coldly.
“Explain? What’s there to explain? She had it in her mind that I was responsible! Even if I explain, will she believe me?”
Danika fell silent.
The fact was just as Paul had said.
Even if he explained, Stephanie might not believe him.
“Okay, you take care of your injuries.I’ll handle this matter,” Eustace spoke up.
At this point, the only way to resolve everything was to find Leonard.
