Filed to story: The Regretful Billionaire: An Unpredicted Reunion
Three months before Eric’s execution, Lynette met him once, but the two didn’t say anything to each other.
“Sometimes, I wonder…What’s so different about me compared to Graham? Why did you always want to escape from me?” Eric couldn’t help but ask, unwilling to accept his fate.
Lynette glanced at him, not knowing what to say to him. He was going to die, yet he was still so hung up about such a thing.
“Emotions are always hard to explain. If you weren’t so obsessive, maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation today,’ Lynette answered indifferently. She had no feelings for Eric, even after all those years by his side. She had cursed him more than once for his gruesome deeds and knew he wouldn’t have a good end.
Eric laughed lightly. “Yes, but I can’t help it. The first time I saw you, I wanted you as my wife.” He didn’t even understand how Lynette ended up with Graham, even though he’d known her first.
“It’s useless to talk about these things now. Since you’ve come to see me for the last time, there’s one thing I need your help with.” Eric smiled and didn’t continue with meaningless ponderings anymore.
Lynette remained silent, waiting for him to continue.
“I always thought Pete didn’t have much ambition, so I never thought much of him. But now it seems that I was wrong. He wants the Dafoe family to transform, which is a good thing, but he doesn’t have the ability to do it. I hope you can ask Danika to help him when the time comes.”
Can You Accept Me as Your Mother?
After she left the prison, Lynette told Danika the last words Eric had said to her. Then, she added, “You don’t have to hold back or worry about anything for my sake. Although Pete was raised by me, he’s not really my son after all.”
“I understand what you mean. Don’t worry, I know what to do,” Danika said to Lynette on the phone.
After they hung up, Danika didn’t think much of the matter. Although she’d entertained Pete’s invitation to a meal before out of consideration for Lynette, it didn’t mean she would compromise again and again.
If Pete wanted her and Eustace to help him, he had to offer enough chips. As long as he could offer sufficiently attractive benefits, even if he were a stranger, she and Eustace would help him.
On the day Eric was executed, the news gave enough coverage to the former overlord of Bayside City. Danika could see that almost all the media published news related to Eric on that day, no matter which website she browsed.
But did it even matter at this point in time? Eric might be rotting in hell or waiting for his turn to be judged by God by then.
Taking a deep breath, she felt an unprecedented level of calm.
At night, Graham invited her and Eustace to dinner at Zellweger Castle. Danika didn’t refuse, as everyone was feeling joyous that day.
Danika and Eustace didn’t go to Zellweger Castle together, as Graham personally called Eustace. Upon receiving a call from Graham, Eustace put his work aside and went to Zellweger Castle to help Graham prepare dinner. He wanted to perform well in front of his future in-laws, and Danika was well aware of this.
“You’re here, Danika.” Lynette was wearing a completely new outfit that was absolutely different from the style she’d worn previously. She looked more similar to her appearance in the photo of her that Graham always kept around.
Upon hearing Danika’s name being mentioned, Graham and Eustace both peeked out from the kitchen.
“Wash your hands, and dinner will be served,” Eustace instructed.
“Okay.” Danika nodded.
She went to the bathroom to wash her hands, and Lynette followed behind. It made Danika a little uncomfortable.
“Do you have something to say to me?” She had talked to Lynette on the phone in the morning and discussed Eric’s matter. Now that Lynette was looking at her expectantly, Danika didn’t know what to make of the situation.
Lynette shook her head, but her eyes reddened involuntarily. “Danika, can you…accept me as your mother?”
Danika froze for a bit, then she smiled and replied, “You’re already my mother by blood. Whether I accept you or not doesn’t matter.”
“Danika, you know what I mean.” Lynette didn’t want such a cold and distant relationship with Danika; rather, she wanted her daughter’s heartfelt recognition.
Danika didn’t say anything, which was indicative of her stance on this matter.
Lynette felt uneasy but knew very well that Danika didn’t like her being pushy. She could only endure the pain in her heart and ask, ‘What do you think about me and your father?”
Upon hearing that, Danika pondered it carefully and answered, “It’s really a matter between you two, and I don’t have much right to intervene.
However, you are still my parents, and you’ve yearned for each other all these years. In the past, there were too many obstacles standing in your way, preventing you from being together. But now, all the obstacles have been removed. If you still love each other, then follow your hearts.”
In other words, Danika still hoped that the two of them could be together. They were already middle aged, and at this stage, they should be enjoying life.
Danika genuinely hoped that they could be happy together.
Are You Sure?
Lynette understood the meaning behind Danika’s words.
She smiled and said, “It’s just that we’re both old now, unlike before.”
“Age has never been an excuse to limit your love for your destined one.”
Danika turned around and looked at Lynette.
Lynette was stunned for a moment, then nodded.
“You’re right.”
“So, do you still want to be with my father?” Danika asked, actually worried that Lynette might change her mind now.
However, her worries were unnecessary.
Lynette thought for a moment and nodded.
“Of course, I’ve been waiting for this day for so many years.”
Hearing that, Danika was relieved, “I hope you both can be happy.”
“What about you? Danika, what about your happiness?”
Right now, Lynette didn’t care whether she could be happy or not.
Instead, she cared more about Danika’s happiness.
Danika’s gaze instinctively turned toward the kitchen.
Lynette understood instantly but still had some concerns.
“Your father told me that you were divorced from him before. Why did you choose to be with him again?”
“The situation between us is very complicated. You and my father don’t need to worry about it.Just live your own life.”
Danika didn’t want to explain too much.
Moreover, to Danika, Lynette’s opinion wouldn’t affect her in the slightest. She didn’t care whether Lynette approved of Eustace or not.
Hearing her say that, Lynette wisely chose not to comment further.
“Let’s go back to the dining room. It’s time for dinner.
“Okay.”
After their short chat, the two came out of the bathroom.
By then, the food had been served on the table.
Danika could easily tell which dishes were made by Eustace.
After all, compared to Eustace, Graham’s culinary skills were shabby.
“Let’s eat.”
Graham came out of the kitchen with the last dish and smiled at Danika and Lynette before sitting down across from them.
Eustace had also opened the premium red wine he had brought and poured a glass for everyone.
“Today is a good day.
Let’s have a toast.”
“Sure.”
Danika nodded. She also felt that it was a good day.
After resolving the matter between Lynette and Eric, Graham didn’t have to worry about her safety anymore.
The four of them raised their glasses, clinked them, and drank.
“The wine is good,” Graham praised.
He’d had a lot of grievances with Eustace before, but what happened in the kitchen just now made him change his mind a bit.
A man who could cook so well shouldn’t be bad in any way, right? “Danika, now that your mother is back, I’m going to take her out to see the world.
From now on, I’ll leave the Zellweger family to you,” Graham said slowly while eating.
He felt a bit sorry for Danika when he decided to do that since he would go around the world while leaving his daughter at home to work hard.
However, Danika didn’t seem to mind.
She waved her hand casually and said, “You guys can just go ahead. There won’t be any problems with the Zellwegers.”
Then, she asked an unexpected question.
“By the way, when are you planning to get married?”
As soon as she spoke, Graham and Lynette looked at each other.
