She had no experience in doing business, and she usually didn’t try to interfere in the affairs of the Wardley family. The reason she had come today representing the Wardleys to sign a contract with Eustace was merely an excuse to see him. However, she never expected the encounter would turn out to be so embarrassing.
After Faye left, Eustace called Vincent into the room. “Investigate the Wardleys. I want to know how Anthony died and came back to life with the Wardley family.”
“Very well, Mr. Quincey.” The sudden revelation that Faye and her brother had become part of the Wardley family was unbelievable, not just for Eustace; even Vincent couldn’t believe it.
Vincent had personally witnessed Anthony saving Eustace’s life in the past. If everything turned out to be false, then all the care Eustace had shown Faye over the years would become a joke. He knew how angry Eustace was, but surprisingly, he couldn’t detect any trace of anger from his expression.
Vincent thought that having a girlfriend must have its benefits. Danika happened to be someone who could keep Eustace under control, and as they spent more time together, Eustace’s personality changed little by little.
Everything had been cleaned at Zellweger Castle; not a trace of a gunfight was left to be seen.
Danika lay on the sofa, not even bothering to rest. She scrolled through her phone, and a post from Faye suddenly caught her attention. Thinking about it, she hadn’t seen any updates from Faye since she left Parrington and went abroad.
Curious, Danika clicked on the post, only to fall into silence when she saw its content.
“Hello, Eustace. No matter my current identity, I will always be Faye to you,” the post read. “P.S. I hope the cooperation between the Wardleys and the Quinceys goes smoothly.”
The post included a selfie taken by Faye, which had Eustace’s back in it.
Danika stared at it and began to frown.
Faye had returned? From her post, it seemed that Faye’s identity had changed. So, the thing Eustace was preoccupied with was meeting Faye.
Danika wanted to laugh, but she couldn’t bring herself to do so. She had thought that once she resolved the issues with Eric, peace would be restored, and she and Eustace could live their life together. However, Faye suddenly appeared, and from her words, Danika could sense she was up to no good.
Did she want to compete with her for Eustace? Realizing that, Danika suddenly felt annoyed.
Just then, Eustace called her. Danika hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to answer. She wanted to see what lies Eustace would tell her.
“Danika, is everything finished at Zellweger Castle? I’ll come to pick you up and take you home,” Eustace said, his tone calm as if nothing had happened.
Displeased, she answered coldly. “Take me home? This is my home. Why should I go back with you?”
Upon hearing her words, Eustace was momentarily stunned.
“What’s wrong, Danika? Who upset you?” Eustace asked softly as if coaxing a child.
Unfortunately, Danika was not a child, and upon hearing his tone, there was no easing of her displeasure. It only intensified
Owing Him Nothing
Danika remained silent and decided to hang up. She was in a bad mood and didn’t want to listen to Eustace’s nonsense. On the other end of the phone, Eustace was still driving and looked confused at her ending the call so suddenly. Although he didn’t understand what exactly had happened, one thing was clear to him-Danika was not happy. He stepped on the gas pedal as he headed toward Zellweger Castle.
A few minutes later, Eustace appeared in the living room of Zellweger Castle, standing in front of Danika.
“Danika, can you at least tell me the reason you’re angry? I’m really worried about you,” Eustace said, looking at Danika beside him, unsure what to say.
Danika narrowed her eyes and ignored him, which made Eustace frustrated. He had no idea why Danika was upset, so he sat silently, trying hard to recall what he might have done to make her unhappy. Surprisingly, an idea soon popped up in his mind.
He looked at Danika and asked, “Danika, are you angry because of Faye?”
Upon hearing her name, Danika sneered at him. “So, you finally know the reason.”
Eustace was exasperated. “Danika, it’s not that I didn’t know the reason. She just never crossed my mind, so I didn’t bring it up.”
Danika threw her phone at Eustace. “She never crossed your mind? Well, you’ve crossed her mind.”
Eustace looked at the contents on her phone, and his face fell. He hadn’t seen the post, most likely because Faye had blocked him.
“I had arranged a meeting with the Wardleys today to discuss a deal, but I didn’t expect her to show up. Now she and her brother are part of the
Wardley family,” Eustace explained.
Danika quickly recalled that there was a Wardley family among the Ten Elites of Bardoff City. That sparked her interest.
“Did Faye suddenly become a member of the Wardley family? Is she the lost daughter of the Wardley family?” Danika asked.
Eustace nodded. “That seems to be the case for now. The Wardley family is currently under the control of her brother, Anthony.”
Danika found it quite interesting. Faye had disappeared for so long that Danika thought she would never appear again. But now, not only did she reappear, she did so as the heiress of the Wardley family. The twists and turns of life left Danika feeling rather stumped.
“You said her brother died while saving you? How can he suddenly reappear?” Danika looked at Eustace suspiciously, clearly doubting whether he had lied to her about those things in the past.
Eustace hurriedly explained, “I’m not sure about the details. I find it strange too. I’ve asked Vincent to investigate, so we should have some information soon.”
“Is that so? Haven’t you considered Faye, who is now a member of the Wardley family? Now that you and she are considered a suitable match, don’t you have any other thoughts?” Danika expressed her doubts, considering that Eustace had initially met her while trying to save Faye.
Eustace was exasperated. “Danika, what are you thinking? What does her new identity have to do with me? And regarding her brother, even if Anthony did die, I’ve long since repaid my debt to him.”
From the moment Faye laid hands on Danika in the past, Eustace stopped looking after her and sent her abroad. He had been telling himself that he no longer owed Anthony anything.
Due to recent events, it seemed that not only did he not owe Anthony anything, but Anthony also owed him some answers.
Long Time No See
Danika was pondering the authenticity of Eustace’s words. Did he truly have no other thoughts now that Faye was back in the picture?
“Danika, why do you still doubt my feelings for you?” Was there something he needed to do better?
Hearing that, Danika felt a bit embarrassed. She cleared her throat before saying, ‘I’m just annoyed. I thought after dealing with Eric, we could finally have a peaceful life. Who would have expected Faye to appear at this moment?”
She didn’t deny that she didn’t want other women, especially those who could affect their relationship, to appear by Eustace’s side because she liked Eustace.
“Don’t worry, Faye’s appearance means nothing. We don’t need to attach any importance to her.” In Eustace’s eyes, Faye meant nothing.
Danika took a deep breath and realized that she had been overthinking.
Eustace pulled her into his embrace and whispered in her ear, “Don’t worry. No one will separate us again.”
“I just wanted a few peaceful days,” Danika murmured.
“I understand, so don’t worry. The things you’re concerned about won’t happen.’ Faye didn’t affect their relationship in the past, and she wouldn’t do so in the future.
Danika didn’t say anything more. She hoped that the reality would be as Eustace had said.
In a villa on the western outskirts of Bardoff City, Eric’s face turned pale.
He had just regained consciousness after undergoing surgery.
“What’s the situation?” Eric asked.
“The situation is not favorable for us, sir. The police are searching for us,’ his subordinate answered.
Eric’s face darkened, and he remained silent.
“Should we return to Bayside City first, sir?” Bayside City was their territory. Even if the police were involved, they wouldn’t dare to do anything to them. However, in Bardoff City, they had little say.
Eric frowned. After a moment, he asked, ‘Am I supposed to be afraid of them?”
“Sir…’
“Bring Pete to Bardoff City,’ Eric said, interrupting his subordinate.
This time, he failed to snatch Lynette back, but he didn’t plan to give up like this. She was his woman; even if she died, she would die at his hands.
Although his subordinate was worried, he didn’t say anything more. He had a feeling that if they continued like this, something unexpected would occur.
At the hospital, Danika continued her work as usual. Eustace had already persuaded her not to pay attention to Faye’s return, but unexpectedly, Faye came to her on her own accord.
“Dr. Zellweger, long time no see.” In the consultation room, Danika saw Faye.
Danika examined her from head to toe. As Miss Wardley, there were significant changes in her appearance and how she carried herself.
Danika smiled at her and asked, ‘Miss Wardley, what seems to be the problem?”
“It seems that Dr. Zellweger has heard from Eustace,’ Faye sighed. “Whether it’s Faye Lawrence or Faye Wardley, I’m still the same person. The only difference is the name.”
Danika put down the pen in her hand. Seeing that there were no patients for the moment, she was happy to chat with Faye.
“There is a difference.” Danika grinned at her. ‘If you were Faye Lawrence, you would always be Eustace’s savior’s sister. But now, as Faye Wardley and given that your brother is still alive, what do you think you are to Eustace? I think what Eustace is struggling with right now is not who you are, but how your brother deceived him back then.”
No one liked to be deceived, and Eustace was no exception.
I Can’t Die
Danika’s words struck deep, and Faye’s face instantly turned pale. She bit her lip, still unwilling to admit defeat. “My brother will explain everything, and I believe Eustace won’t hold it against us.”
“Is that so?” Danika raised an eyebrow. “If you’re so confident, then why did you come to see me today?”
“Well, I came to the hospital for a checkup. What else would I be here for?” Faye shot her a resentful look, which cracked Danika up. Then, Faye took out her medical record and handed it to Danika. “You performed my surgery, and I still trust your medical skills, Dr. Zellweger. So I hope you will take care of my follow-up treatment.”
Danika glanced through the medical record and said calmly, “Your condition seems stable, with no major issues. What do you need me to take care of?”
“With my condition, I’ll need frequent checkups in the future. Since you’re working at this hospital, I’ll come directly to you if anything happens,” Faye said with a smile.
Danika put down the medical record and didn’t refuse her. “Sure, no problem. As a doctor, I will treat every patient seriously.”
“Dr. Zellweger, you really do separate your personal and professional matters clearly,” Faye said, slightly mocking her.
